If so, I am thinking about starting a build like this, maybe using the greatshild as my weapon. thoughts? suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Yeah it can block and hit. Although I'd say using the spiked shield or something. They offer more damage. Or get a lightning shield. I have one, its pretty good.

I finished a dual bonewheel shield run not that long ago. I have to say it was one of the funnest things I have ever done on dks. The r2 attack on it is quite brutal! I never invaded anyone, but several people invaded me, 2 of which I am happy to report lost!
Seriously fun time. I used ornsteins armor, the fang boar helm, and black iron gaunts.and legs. You need poise doing this run haha. I started the run prior to beating queelag, once I acquired 2 Shields. I highly recommend it!

No, you kind of thrust it forward and than spin it, it hits multiple times during the spin. Also, the l2 will do the same thing, so once I got to the giant blacksmith, I had a lightning in one hand and fire in the other!

Actually the shield can be extremely useful in your main hand. I've never tested Light shields but i've done so with Medium and Heavy. Though it should only be used with both hands. You become a "Wall", for lack of a better word, that'll defend against projectiles and melee attacks. While the enemies can't get around you, your party will score free kills.
Heavy Shield
R2/RT: Ground Pound (Causes Knock down)
L2/LT: Heavy Guarding (Untested: Possibly raises stability)
Medium Shield
R2/RT: Running Bash (Weak but effective if used correctly)
L2/LT: Medium Guarding (Untested: Possibly raises stability)
Give it a try next time you're a phantom or human.

Shields used for blocking are amazing in two hands, but of course, you are unlikely to win that way. I feel that, greatshields can work for attacking, the Bonewheel Shield is by far the strongest. The Spiked Shield is fair if you can get a bleed off, but I would never have a shield in the primary hand, for serious characters, unless it was one of those (perhaps), or the Sanctus, Grass Crest Shield, or maybe the Bloodshield. I used a Grass Crest Shield in the primary to catch runners with my dragonoid build, and pull it out if I over-extend with roars, rolls, blocking, attacking, breathing.

Happened to me two days ago. He flipped around for a while then decided he was bored and WoTG me to death. He had sooooo much health.

Blight town, but if you just do the quick way (Gargoyles then straight down the New Londo shortcut with Master Key) you can easily get to Sens and just buy two Tower Sheilds.

Oh, shoot....
Basically, if you have the Master Key, you can go straight down from Firelink to New Londo, walk up the stairs to the right of the elevator (When you get down to "ground" level), follow that up and you can open up a gate to the Valley of the Drakes. Walk forward and over the bridge, into the big cave, fight or flee the three giants, and your in the middle of blight town.
