    Longsword in PvP

Post by IV_Mark_VI on Mon Aug 13, 2012 11:38 am

    Hey everyone,

I really enjoy using a str/dex build and wanted to focus on weapons that have balanced stats; I've used Claymores/Bastard swords before, and I really want to like the long sword, but my problems with it are this:

    Balanced between str / dex.
Doesn't seem to do much damage unless it's buffed, which means a third stat (int or faith).

Has anyone used a longsword effectively in PvP? What are it's strengths?

Or is it just meant to be a beginners weapon, and discarded when you find better? (Like the Astora's sword?)

    Cheers!

I cannot see it being used without crystal weapon in PvE,or in PvP,or Astora's sword. They're just too short reached and weak. You should use Great axe or something.

I have a lvl 12 warrior that hosts in the burg and parish with Str 13 / Dex 14 that uses a long sword and it works great for me. I have also used it with my high level character... also started as a warrior.. with Str 40 / Dex 45 and I have never had a problem in either PVE or PVP. I will admit I eventually shifted to a balders side sword with my high level because of the better reach, but the move set is the same.

The Sunlight Straight Sword is 100% better if you have the 40/40 stats to get maximum damage, except it weighs 1 more. I like the Longsword, but I only could see it being used for a Divine or Enchanted weapon, with low DEX/STR and high FAI/INT

I love the strong attack of this type of weapon, long/shortsword, broadsword, barbed sword, etc. People say it has poor range but the strong attack's range is as good as the BSS's thanks to the dash you do.

I wouldn't call it a particularly good weapon if you're struggling with the game, but once you've played Dark Souls for a while it should be plenty strong.
