Posture at Play Empty Posture at Play

Post by ARSP Sat Aug 11, 2012 3:27 pm

Sorry I've Been gone for so long it's summer vacations and I have been studying for the new SATs as well as playing some new games anyway I have been doing a test and these are my results. The Whole point of this test is Posture at Play. I did this test with three different postures. The Postures I used were Slouching, standing and sitting straight up. I tested this on three games Call of Duty MW3, Battlefield 3, and of course Darksouls. Call of Duty and Battlefield were both tested via TDM so the quality of my teammates make a significant impact on the test but these are my results

When I was standing up playing Call of duty these were my results

    Kills Deaths

    3124
    124
    1914
    2114
    311
    1915
    1312
    1921
    146
    179

So by standing I averaged out about 1.62 K/D

When I was sitting which I use as my base standard my results were

    2114
    3228
    1115
    2327
    2621
    1412
    2119
    2212
    1211
    2326

While sitting I got a 1.33 K/D now here are my Results for slouching

    1214
    1923
    2919
    2529
    1414
    1912
    1415
    1616
    149
    2319

The K/D this chart here is .98

So from this data we can tell that at least for me I tend to play about 20% better when I stand as opposed to sitting down. And it seems that when I slouch I play 27% more poorly as I would if I was just sitting.

    Now to Darksouls

I followed the same process as before when I was standing stall

Out of 10 fights I won 8 of them.

Sitting I won 8 of them

Slouching I only won 5 times.

Unlike call of duty it seems that in darksouls standing or sitting it really doesn't seem to matter. Slouching on the other hand lowered my win ratio by 30%. Just a thought

My battlefield 3 data was largely the same as my call of duty data

My Standing K/D is about 1.65

    Sitting K/D was about 1.4

    Slouching surprising was about 1.02

If you would like to see the Chart then just ask.

But from these Genre's anyway standing tall seems to help for these reason I suspect

    • Point of View- the in game elements on the TV are a lot easier to see standing up
    • Blood flow- Having the blood flow easier through one's body at least in my experience helped me focus as well as act faster
    • Decreased distance from the television- In my experience whenever I stood up I was about 3in closer to the TV than I was sitting

I tried my best to remove as many variable as I could but here are the ones I could not change

    • Skill of Teammates
    • Skill of Enemies
    • Luck
    • Skill or instincts of the player
    • Equipment of enemies
    • Equipment of teammates and player
    • Strategy used

Remember I used the same loadout and fought on the same maps to get these results. In the case of Gankers I through those matches out of the results because I didn't the extra players to ruin the results.

However this theory however is incomplete I need more people to try this out and possible in different Genres if applicable. I also need different skill ranges more skilled players maybe benefit more than unskilled ones. Give this some thought try it out when you feel ready to tell how it went for you then just send me a PM answer the poll at the top or just stick your experience in the responses.

    TLDR

Standing seems to produce favorable results more than sitting or slouching. My experiment is not perfect and I need more people to try this out. Respond via PM responses or on the poll

    Thank you for reading.

    Interesting....

I have already noticed similar results from my extensive gaming career. I tend to play for long periods at a time so don't like to stand the whole time, so what I do is sit on my coffee table in front of the tv and when I'm in a tough fight I will stand when the action is full on. Seems to work wonders as I can't really slouch on the coffee table and can get the extra edge by standing when needed.
I do this for any online multiplayer game I play, bf3, dks etc.

I have a recliner I sit in to be comfortable, and as soon as I see "XXX invaded your world" I move to a folding chair I PvP in.

I have no logical explination for this

I go betwee nmlying on my bed, sitting and crouching on my seat. Never seen a difference personally. Then again .. maybe those 2 nights of FHing did have a difference. I must check!

I'm glad you took the time to study this!

For relaxed games I like to sit reclined with my feet propped, but for any hard game like dark souls I always sit upright in the half lotus position, with my shoulders back and back straight. It's just a natural position of alertness.

I play better standing I've noticed, though unfortunately I look insane and I can't stand for long periods of time due to medical problems. But still, it's interesting to note.

I always play better sitting than laying down or slouching over, be it DkS or CoD.
