Why "Pillage" corpse? Empty Why "Pillage" corpse?

This has always made me think in this game.

Pillaging implies robbing/violence. Was this word chosen just because it goes along with the Dark theme of "Dark Souls"? Is it possible to beat the game without resorting to pillaging bodies (I don't think so)?

It has such a negative connotation if you're attempting to play a good player.

I actually planned a whole new no-bonfire run with no kindling and murdering all Firekeepers while not pillaging any corpse a while back... but for some reason, I could never get motivated enough to start it...

The "white glow" is kind of a history/gameplay segregation. You kinda go and check on the corpse and if you find a valuable, you scoop it out.

Hence, pillaging. Also, why wouldn't you pillage stuff out from a corpse, it's not evil if it means you are gonna survive thanks to that.

It would be awfully hard to do a no pillaging run seeing as how you have to pillage a key off of a body in the first two seconds of the game. Unless there's some other way out of that cell, then pillaging is a must :|

Because the devs are descended from a long line of Viking raiders.

    Just for clarity:

    Dictionary meaning:
Rob (a place) using violence, esp. in wartime.

    verb. plunder - loot - sack - rob - maraud - ransack - despoil
    noun. plunder - robbery - sack - rapine - loot - spoliation

This is not a nice word sad. Just curious if it might have a larger meaning.

Well in the event that you're pillaging an enemy you killed, you just brutally murdered them in order to take their belongings, so it could work

Yup. I love how the idea of "Killing is okay as long as it is some kind of monster" is considered within the realm of a "good-aligned" character.

Pillage is just a fancier word for loot. Basically if you pillage a corpse, you're stripping it down taking everything off of it which isn't a very nice thing to do. Sure they weren't using it anymore, but nonetheless you defiled the dead by stripping the body naked.

My guess is they used it as it sounds a bit more in character than "loot" which has become sort of a slang term. Phat lewtz!
