Dragonslayer Spear - when does the damage catch up?

Hi. I am knee deep in a build specifically to use the Dragonslayer Spear. My stats are 25str/40dex/24fth. A work in progress, to be sure, but the stats which affect DSS damage are nearly done. I will get 2 more into str, and probably 30 total faith. But at this moment, the DSS does roughly 105 damage to a Black Knight in Kiln, NG, while a SKS does 145ish, one handed. Two handed is closer, DSS 180 to SKS 210. I don't think 2 more str and 6 more fth is going to close the one handed gap, though.
To be clear, I don't need the DSS to hit harder than the SKS, or even as hard. I'm fine if it is 10 or 15% below on average, honestly. I just doubt that the few points I have left will bring it up that far, so my question is this: What stats do I need to have to get the DSS into the same ballpark of damage as the other long spears? Not beat them, just get close. Would 27/40/30 do it? 27/40/40? As much as I want to love the DSS, if it is a 40% drop in damage from a SKS (which isn't breaking records with damage to begin with) then I just can't justify using it. Any help here? Thanks.

the DSS is never gonna powerful, specially in pvp at sl120. the thing that really makes it a good weapon is the reach, specially with the lag the dark souls has.

Yeah, I totally love the reach and moveset. If it were the only long spear, I'd let it have whatever damage it wants, but it has to compete with the SKS, which has the reach, decent moves, and does more damage. Thar be my problem. I don't need it to be powerful, just roughly equal to it's competition.

Since it has higher STR scaling, if you get to 40/24-40/40, its physical damage is nearly as good, with 100 extra lightning attached, any Faith put into it will add more damage, but the Dragonslayer Spear never out damages the Sliver Knight's Spear in physical damage alone, just get close.

Dragon Slayer Spear does 100 or so more damage than Silver Knight Spear if you have Dex and faith.
With 40 dex and 37 Faith, my build would be doing 476 damage.
With 40 dex and strength, You'd be doing only 376.

Really, it's a matter of move set. DSS's move set isn't all that impressive. It's Lightning R2 doesn't do all that much damage in my experience, and it's duel-wielding R2 is quite slow on the delivery.
SKS, on the other hand, has a rather nice full-circle R2 that can be quite useful in many situations.

Another difference is, although the DSS does more damage, the fact that it deals lightning AND physical damage forces its output to be affected by 2 defenses rather than one.

Saying most of what I had to say, but shorter..

The 2 handed moveset (the only one you should be using) is quite good. I like the rolling r1. The r2s are too slow but you dont need them. 2h r1 + 2h rolling r1 will get the job done.
