The Drake Sword Challenge

I was reading "The Communtiy Through the Ages" post recently and I saw people talking about the Drake Sword, and how good they thought it used to be. This got me thinking that maybe we should relive those days of the Drake Sword.

Challenge:

Complete the game using only the Drake Sword



Rules:

You may use any armor setup and rings you want, but no spells what-so-ever. The only thing that is allowed to deal damage is the Drake Sword. You may summon help for your battles, but they must use the Drake Sword as well.



Purpose of the Challenge:

To try and relive the days when we all thought the Drake Sword was the best weapon.



Have fun with this challenge and report back every so often during your journey to offer some helpful hints or just to let everybody know how your doing.

Sorry, I always thought my Lightning Zwei was the best on my playthrough. :3

I meant back when the game first came out and we all just found out about the Drake Sword.

Never even had a drake sword
So yeah i cant even do the challenge. Sure I can find another weapon with 300 AR though.

The challenge says specifically to use the Drake Sword. Its easy to get, just start a character, and get to the bridge with the dragon on, and shoot its tail until you get it.

I know how to get it, its just never complied with the whole, tail dropping off thing

Thanks, but dont expect it often. Very rarely do I get a good idea. lol

Funny thing is I remember getting all hyped up when I saw the video for the drake sword and when I finally got it I never actually used it at all. Maybe 4 or 5 undead warriors were killed and then I switched back to my bandit knife.

This does sound like a good idea though maybe it will give me a bit of a challenge.

I recently started a new PvE character, and I might do the challenge myself. Get prepared for an extremely slow Four Kings battle, lol.

This is slightly off-topic...okay, its way off-topic, elite. I just want to say that I like the new avatar. It looks like it could be a trading card. :face:

It does sound like a very interesting challenge. Although i think it would be extremely hard ot beat some bosses, but i guess that is part of the challenge. I use to use the drake sword a lot when i started playing, but i started finding better weapons. I might have to try this challenge.

Did you see my avatar yet? Me and elite basically did the same idea but with our favorite stuff.

Yea I did the same thing at the beginning of the game except the first playthrough. I killed the undead merchant and because it was pre 1.05, I was screwed when I ran out of arrows. Oh well. The challenge seems interesting. Im excited to see how people go about it.

I have a question though: if you summoned someone, how are they going to know that you're doing this challenge and need to use the drake sword?

Yea I see what you guys did there. Looks cool. I wonder if you can get anyone to illustrate your builds to make it look authentic.

This is quite an easy challenge in my opinion. If you have a weapon that does 300 AR or above in pure physical, it's enough to beat NG with. I always say any +10 weapon is enough for NG, only beyond into NG+ where we begin to need top level weapons.

So he's just posting the challenge, lol why does it matter if no one has never used it? Does it spark your interest >:o! I did this run before. And I have to tell you. It makes fights last a while. I felt like I was killing the Asylum demon with my hilted sword. *sigh* Memories !

I agree with ser isaac. If the challenge interests you than do it, but if you dont want to use the drake sword than there is no point in changing the challenge around to use other weapons. The challenge is meant to use a certain weapon for a reason, to see if you can complete a run using a weapon that most of us use to think was the best when we first got the game. If you never used the weapon than try using it.

Maybe adding other elements to the challenge would suffice. Only starting equipment except drake sword. No upgrading equipment. Only protection rings are allowed. Steel protection, element stoneplates, etc. Oh and FaP doesn't count as a protection ring, . Max lvl allowed is 30? I don't know, some ideas.

The challenge stated that the only thing that can deal damage is the drake sword, no spells, no other weapons, and he said you can use any armor and rings. As far as i know he did not specify a level cap so i guess you can do the challenge at a low level if you think it will make it more challenging.

No offense, but I stated specifically to use the Drake Sword becasue it does not effect most enemies a lot, which makes the fights harder. If you dont want to use the Drake Sword, than dont do the challenge.
