    3v1 builds Empty 3v1 builds

Post by Zhangbob Wed Aug 01, 2012 10:37 pm

I notice at night time peopel typically gather at the last zone in the game to 3v1 any incoming invaders (sl 120). I have been using my old character to pvp and try out things. I still need more expierence in the game to pull off parrys and lag stabs between players....that and i will never make a build around lag stabs or reposes (i think its *** unless your out manned).

So im looking for build ideas for fighting 3v1s. My default thought
is a INT sorc based character who uses WOtGs as well homing missiles and
    CSS.

Any ideas also weapon ideas would be awesome big grin

Dex/Str builds work very well with great swords and other such strong weapons, mainly you want to be able to stunlock. Weapon and armor is a lot more important compared to what exactly your build is, since Pyro is very effective in defeating ganks. Where in particular are you invading at? Because pretty much the best advice people can give you is on area based tactics, because they best way to defeat a ganker is to take advantage of the land, even if all the mobs are dead.

If you plan on facing multiple enemies then first of all make sure you have plenty of protection because the fight is not going to be easy. Wear heavy armor that offers high poise and it would be smart to use the ring of favor and maybe mask of mother.

As for weapons, go with something that has good hit range and could possibly hit all enemies at once. If you like +15 weapons then you might want to consider the great scythe or anything with a horizontal swing. Buff it with SLB or DMB and just swing away . If you like elemental upgrades the best in my opinion is lightning or fire.

If you want a more magic approach than of course use long range spells like soul spears or soul masses. if you have good faith you could use WoG, lightning spears, or emit force. TWoP is also helpful to slow down the enemies so you can get in some backstabs. You could also use weapons with special moves like grant, stone greatsword, moonlight sword, etc... Just watch that you don't damage the weapon.

If you want to be sneaky you could use the ring of fog or chameleon and use the land to lore enemies into traps and kill them off 1 by 1. Or if you are in the forest you could always lore the enemies into other in-game enemies so they will be distracted.

Well hopefully these tips help you and good luck with your 3v1 battles.

Uses HCSM and WotG, MoonlightGS is a great sword and it swings wide, can stun, has the ranged R2 attacks and has "pure" rather than mixed AR and decent Int scaling.

If you take off the Catalyst and grab say Great heal instead of soulmass you can wear MoM/Giantx3 which while perhaps the most overused set it is used for a reason(It's effective)

moon light great sword has been proving decent in 3v1s. As for the weapon buffs, you will never have time to get them off....ever. as soon as you come in typically one is waiting behind you for a backstab, you have to roll into him to avoid it then get out so you arent cornered.
Great scythe i always considered too slow for those fights but you will be running alot and its 2h running swing is pretty epic so i may have to try that out. Also side note for those who dont know Great Scythe wont hit you if you are close to the person because the blade part of it has to hit you.
Comboing weapons wotn work because the second you try for more than 1 or 2 hits one of them will have casted a spell at you or go for the back stab.
I was thinking heavy armor and i still may, but im leaning more towards sacrificing it for all out offense so when i damage people they cant heal while the other 2 cover him.
The current character i have doesnt have any dex so casting spells leaves me too open. So my next build regaurdless need 45 dex.

Biggest thing i dont have much experience on but need help with is weapons. Moonlight is a great default but i want to know if theres others with decently fast sweeps or pokes that could hit multiple targets. Also if anyone has any ideas for spells besides WotGs CSS and homing for dealing with multiple enemys please share....or heck quickly dealing with a single man who leaves himself open because he has friends with him.

I buff in 1v3s all the time, just have to make space.

The great scythe hitbox covers the entire length of the weapon, not just the blade, and the sprint at the beginning of the 2hr2 makes up for the relative lack of speed if you're clever.

"Comboing" or stunlocking, works very well with weapons with wide hitboxes like the zweihander and murakumo.

Sorcery recieves negligible benifits from dex, so works quite well for strength builds.

If you're not willing to bs or repost at every opportunity, and maximise the damage if at all possible, 1v3s will be exceedingly difficult, even compared to most ganks.

interesting I have never seen a strength build do well.

Try experimenting with pve mobs unless you use the R1 strike while not moving, the Great Scythe wont hit things right next to you. I will look back into the weapon for 3v1s though.

As for repose/ BS its not that i wont capitalize on it, but i need to practice in pvp fights where i actually try to use one, my lack of experience currently will just get me murdered if i try and miss. I will capitalize whenever possible. I just refuse to make a build around it lol.

I would love for people to throw some heavier weapon suggestions with why they could work at me, I havent used a weapon that requires more than 16 Str. yet.

The Great Scythe is probably the best weapon for dealing with gankers truthfully. With the running strike and PW, while buffed, you can two shot many players with he right stats, a Dex/Faith or Dex/Int build mainly works best for this. Do the running attack, then immediately turn to either BS or land a second hit, it will kill most players that are to be encountered in an instant. It's probably the most efficient way to defeat a gank, but I don't know. It just seems kind of boring to kill them like that frankly. Because if you do get the timing down, literally less than ten seconds will be spent in each world you invade.

i invade the last area a lot because thats where a lot of people sit looking for duels, but at the same time at night when more people are on they like to set up traps for people invading for 1v1 duels and have 2 golden friends waiting for you

Great Lord Great Sword, Murakumo, Silver Knight Spear, Pike, Rapier, Estoc, Large Club, Mace, Pickaxe, these are some weapons that I use in the forest when invading, each of them has different uses.

GLGS, for stunlocking as well as big damage hits. Great for getting them on the defense.

Murakumo, excellent for going full on offense, start with the running attack. Use this weapon to dead angle, otherwise you would get parried. It will ignore shields while doing such, as well it is extremely great for stunlocking. The R2 is great for finishing an enemy that is trying to strafe around you, as well if they go to heal don't be afraid to use the running attack again. I'd advise you to always use it one handed. The animations are much better.

Spears, great for poking while retreating, or chasing after a fleeing enemy. You can often hammer them as they chase you, but be wary of using any R2.

Large Club, the rolling two handed R1. It's annoying as hell and boring to fight against, but often gankers will try to bs you with this. When you roll make sure to unlock and predict where they will go, you'll slam your weapon down dealing great damage while building poison. If you use rotten resin it should poison them in one hit.

Mace/Pickaxe, great weapons but very difficult to use. Excellent in tight areas, as well they hit much harder than people suspect. As well the pick deals thrusting damage, so it works with the leo ring. One of the better tricks is to kick them as they attack, then swing one of these weapons for a big hit, especially the pickaxe.

Rapier/Estoc, poke poke poke. Roll and poke, as well great for landing a BS. These weapons are pretty self explanatory, fast light damage deals that whittle them down over time.

As well don't forget to BS cancel when you can, gankers of course love to BS people they are ganging up on.

Hit them when they will be BS'ing you on their screen, so as you seem them strafe around, just hit them. Any damage will cancel the BS.

Yeah, it is especially effective with weapons that have hitboxes that extend behind the player, as a the timing to cancel a bs is fairly easy to learn.

The murakumo is pretty much perfect for it, despite its deceptively slow swing. As long as you are swinging, being BS'ed is kind of difficult unless they really know what they are doing.

big weapons u can spam backstab with that can also deadzone/have sweeping attacks, aoe spells- chaos storm in particular.. they get wrecked by the residual lava, great combustion and wotg spam, and if you can, twop.

you can use the dragon form as well.

they almost always heal as well, so i keep a stack of 99 divine blessings on me just for these encounters.

if you find yourself outnumbered exploit the living crap out of these tactics.

Ah. the kiln. Yeah not as fun of a place for fighting gankers since there isn't as much terrain to take advantage of or enemies. But just always remember the choke hold of the bridge area. Stand at the end of that and they'd have to be stupid to chase you. They chase you? Well hey, they're stupid. Blow them off the edge.

my "build" to counter that gank fest was finding another area to duel in.

i just don't invade there anymore. i'll host, sure, but i'm not going to waste my time with gankers if it's easily avoidable.

Burg is high action, so is Painted World, and Forest. But the Forest is gank central, way more there than in the kiln. But, they're usually easier to kill in the forest because of its nature.
