But should I use my free time when Amos is asleep (darn time zones!) to play Demon Souls instead of Dark Souls? I know it'd be worth the money, but would it be worth the it to take my time away from Dark Souls?

Yeah buy it, it's really fun and can help get away from DkS stress. And you can plan an SL 120 build and all that.

But... if you're really into dark don't expect to get that immersed into it, you'll probably do a playthrough or two then get back into Dark souls

Couldn't hurt.
I enjoy both, though with my only opportunities to play DeS coming when I am visiting my buddy's house my experiences with these two titles are markedly different than most who own both games.

I went from Dark Souls to Demon's Souls, so this is first hand experience.
There were some things I just couldn't overlook after playing Dark Souls, for example the lack of poise and bonfires for the longer worlds. There were others that were actually a nice change of rhythm, like the Nexus, MP and Grass system. Bosses are new and enjoyable.

if you liked dark but allways wished that most weapons felt different then yeah (not dissing on dark but i miss my kilji a lot)

I don't like the ds armor as much as dks but its great get it. I miss my ds

Yea magic was pretty overpowered, you could just keep using firestorm and pretty much take any challenge out of the game. With magic those giant infected in valley of defilement, push overs. Melee builds, arguably the hardest enemies in the game.

It's a good game, but you'll be able to tell it's the game before dark souls, and I mean REALLY tell. It's good, but there's a lot of things which aren't quite right, or not really polished up to scratch like Dark Souls.
For a first game in a completely innovative and unique series though, you couldn't ask for more and be fair really.
