    I don't even know. Empty I don't even know.

Post by Jansports Mon Jul 30, 2012 11:48 pm

It was suggested to me that as I am newer to pvp in dark souls It would behoove me to attempt to play Without certain comforts I was growing accustomed to. Namely Grass Crest Shield, DWGR and weapons I could fall into turtley patterns with (I am a big fan of the estoc) I've also never really played with casted buffs (all resin all day) So I wanted to try to learn to fight with that time limit in mind.

A few notes. Paladin armor is almost garunteed Since I am not trying to break higher than the 31 poise and I simply ador the way that armor looks I would be loathe to remove it.

Falchion was reccomended to me as both a good weapon to buff and a useful weapon to swaping in and out of 2H during fights, something I feel I should learn.

A ring slot is empty as I'm not so sure what I will need/want there. I want to avoid using Wolf's as I am attempting to learn to cope with lower poise values. DWGR obviously omitted for similar reasons.

One of the first things I practiced seriously was unlocked pyromancy, I've always leaned towards casters in most games, and so Crown of Dusk is present but I perhaps should consider removing it so I actually am forced to play differently than I am used to.

All that said here's the build http://mugenmonkey.com/darksouls/?c=3707541184812705
EDIT: I saved the 16 STR version but it should be SL120 with only 14 strength as the 16 was a req for a weapon I decided not to use

Any critiques of improvments quite welcome. This build will be alot of firsts for me, fast roll, lower poise, curved sword, WotG and I'm hoping it'll improve my play over all. If you think theres something I could tweak to add another dimension to the build that'd make me learn to play better I'd love to hear that too.

Build looks pretty good. I'm not biggest fan of the Falchion, but that's mostly because it doesn't build up bleed, they do for the skellies but not for the player. Weak, IMHO.

Also, hate to burst your bubble a bit but the WotG spell is also considered one of the "comfort" spells of PvP. :|

That's actually a reason I'm trying to use it. I figure one of the fastest ways to learn how to deal with something is to use it myself and watch what people do to me to counter it.

Would you reccomend a bleed inducing weapon? I know Katanas are monstrously popular,

@ Wyrm by RTSR you mean Red tearstone? (sorry I don't know every acronym just yet) and a small question about sun's firstborn, does the 20% boost effect the buff strength of sunlight blade?

Well, it's always better to have a weapon that bleeds than one that doesn't, don't you agree? But it's certainly not a deal-breaker if it doesn't build up bleed, many weapons that I do like don't have these status effect-inducing bonuses and they're still great.

It just grinds my gears a bit that the Falchion in specific doesn't have this feature, I feel like it should.

I's recommend the PGS if you plan on running in and going nuts with R1. Pretty sure it out damages a Falchion, plus it bleed.

I dislike both the Falchion and the Painting Guardian's Sword because they have terrible range and I don't like their movesets, that's just me. You should use weapons you like, or want to learn with, as you have. If you are trying to avoid PvP easy weapons, I have to agree with the Painting Guardian's Sword then, if you want bleed, I'm sorry, but I completely consider Katanas in the easy zone.

The best way through Wraith of the Gods is to ninja flip through the attack, however, I prefer the Crest Shield (which you have). Its the best shield to protect yourself from it, and its a solid shield. If they are one of the trolly players with 10 casts of it, you're screwed, sorry, but unless you can roll perfectly 30-36 times, then you'll probably die, 80% isn't enough to beat huge spam (sadly).

If it was my build, and this is changing it a lot more, I would probably take off the Dusk Crown, and focus more on buffs and using the most of my casts, rather than let my casts do the work for me, you could reduce your END by a point, and maybe use egghead big grin (or dragon head, don't glitch with it, but it scares the poop outta people when they see part dragons). I would also consider getting rid of the pyros, because, once again, I'm not too fond of them, at least I would get another Sunlight Blade and remove the Fireball.

Nothing buffs Sunlight Blade or other weapon buffs, the ring you want to use should probably benefit you the most (as in how you play), or help in an area you're weak.

The Cloranthy Ring is always a great choice, I think Red Tearstong Ring would be pretty cool too, even though I don't much care for it.

It does seem odd that the falchion doesn't bleed actually. Well I guess it's odd that a lot of weapons don't cause bleed but bleed seems to belong to slashing weapons (Scythes Katanas certain daggers with slashing animations) but why not the falchion?

Painted Gaurdian's? I'll give it a try, last time I did I was somewhat offput by it's meager range but it might have just felt bad compared to the estoc or BSS I was used to.

That's a good point Damage, how important is it to be able to kick in PvP?

Depends on your style. It's AWESOME for a handful of things. Stopping BS attempts, rapier users who spam dash attacks, and kick an opponent as they're standing after a BS or riposte then giving them a good pop or GC if youve got it. Love kicks, dude.

Rapiers don't get a kick either. You can still get it with the BSS though.

after an evening of Burg an Kiln fights I can almost safely say PGS has the worst hitbox of anything that was designed to hurt another person ever. The Falchion is actually pretty user friendly and is good for baiting parrys, which usually results in a fight lasting not much longer.

I have marked and glaring problems with Spear+Shield or even 2H spear. Not that they're being particularly turtley just PGS is so short and fast roll is so different getting all up in their face is strenuous.

WotG is good, probably more useful if I'm trying to make use of PGS than GFB so I might double up on WotG or maybe TwoP so once I get in I can "Stick" better.

bleed doestn matter in pvp, i think in all the months of pvp i have only been bled twice, you can roll out of bleed which makes it useless, the only one that's good for bleeding is the lifehunt scythe and that thing bleeds you too, you need the bloodbite ring which means a ring slot less when you could be using something more useful. i would just try all the weapons and go with whatever you like best. flamberge is really underrated.

Then why are katanas so overwhelmingly popular? I thought it was that they reached A scaling and had bleed, something not many weapons can say for themselves.
