Have you tried walking very slowly? Lol! You should find a skull lantern on one of the bodies after patches kicks you down the hole

I like the Light spell from Dusk of Oolacile (granted 14 Int can bar some folks from going that route). I'd probably use the Sunlight Maggot, but I always seem to just autopilot my way down to the Tomb of Giants before I smash the chaos bugs.
At any rate, having the lantern instead of a shield while fighting the skeleton beasts is just...not my favorite thing to do.

SPOILER ALERT!!
You gotta make it across the first small bridge, hug the right wall, kill the first skeleton, then you'll have a slide, run straight down slide #2, then hang a right (run past these skeletons), slide down slide #3, then patches should be right there. Before talking to him, go down a ladder to the left of patches and rest at the boonfire. Go back up to patches and he'll ask if your a cleric, I'd say no, the say yes to finding treasure. The bastard will kick you off the cliff and the lantern will be next to you. (if you killed patches already, just drop down) [b]
if I missed anything let me know guys, or you could just go to the tomb of giants walkthrough on the Wiki... this is 1 of the rare times I actually used the walk throughs

^^ or you could jump in the opposite direction the 1st skeleton after the slide. that would lead you straight to trusty patches.
