In spite of my level, and in spite of the skill and swinging battles I have with others, they seem to completely trounce me. Either their weapons break my poise, or they have a magic buff, or I'm not doing damage to them, etc.

Before I get into tactics, I just want to make sure I don't need any further modifications for now.

you need your poise over 53 to avoid one-hit stunlock by greatswords, 76 will prevent one-hit stagger from ultra greatswords, also lightning weapons are popular in pvp and your choice of armor has terrible lightning defense...

switch the gauntlets and legs you're wearing for havels gauntlets and legs, that'll get you better lightning defense and 76 poise.

I feel like I need to sacrifice something. I could use the Wolf Ring to boost my Poise, but then I would be losing either my ninja flip or the epic stats boost.

whoops should have posted my suggestion in another post rather than editing, use havels arms and legs, they'll get you enough poise and you have the weight to equip them too.

then just the gauntlets, they'll get you over 56 and they're the best looking part of the armor set.

also those 28 int points aren't doing you any good, pyromancy doesn't scale with anything... get a catalyst like logans or even the basic sorceror catalyst and pick up the crystal magic weapon spell to buff your claymore with.

I know. I thought I was going to use the Moonlight Greatsword to burst through Defense, and it backfired; it does horrible damage.

I'm crippled with 18 useless points of INT and have no idea what to do with it.

their not useless, thats just enough int to use a powerful (and imo the prettiest) buff, even just great magic weapon would help alot and you can pick that up in anorlondo..

I have Great Magic Weapon, but how do I use it?

Do I have to turn my Claymore into a Magic Claymore +10?

No, it adds magic damage equal to 1.1x your catalyst's Madjust stat to any +15 path weapon. You catalyst needs to be in your left hand. The best catalyst at your Int level is the Oolacile Ivory Catalyst.

For example, that catalyst's adjust is 180, so it will add 198 points of magic damage to the AR of your claymore, topping it at 651, not incredible but very decent. You can also use CMW to buff it with the same cat for around 260 extra points of Magic AR.

And actually, just so there's no confusion, the buff applies to weapons that you've upgraded through the standard path. So anything elemental/magic is excluded, along with boss weapons and bows. Since you've already put the points in intel, your best bet is an intelligence weapon buff. Or get some casts like Hidden Weapon/Body and Chameleon. Great for PvP and low-lowish intel builds.

No to the Clay - it is better at +15.

The Black Bow of Pharis probably isn't the best bow. Get the Composite Bow instead.

Any build can be good for pvp. I have two zero poise characters with no DWGR and I'm doing fine pvping with them.

I think the word "build" implies that the character is specialized and that its stats and equipment are selected to serve a certain purpose. Just unequipping everything and using the weakest weapon isn't a build.

its quite possible to kill with the sword hilt... with slb it deals 500 or so a hit and is fast.... and i just came up with an interesting greatsword idea, it has low damage (dagger level) and looks small, but when you buff it the buff forms a blade, and lasts 3 minutes, the sword also only has d scaling.

Try the man-serpent greatsword. Even at +14 it'll do more damage than your clay.
