    The differences between PvP areas?

Post by nhbdy on Sat Feb 04, 2012 12:57 am

I've been reading a lot about PvP in dark souls, namely because I enjoy it but am inexperienced and wish to improve as much as possible. I noticed that there are several spots people tend to go to for dueling, the top ones being:

    Kiln
    Burg
    Centipede (touneys and pre arranged?)
    Depths
    Painted World

Are there any differences between the etiquette expected, builds allowed, level range and general performance found in these places?

A lot of the action happens at the Kiln. You wont find much to deal with here except your foe, unless he tries to take the fight to the Black Knights. Expect to get farmed (ganged by three guys) when you invade at times.

I wouldnt call the Burg a PVP area. I guess "invasion" would be a better definition of it. Lotsa people invade the Burg during NG because it's easy to kill the host. Never ever PVP'ed in the Depths. In the Painted World you're going to find some honorable duellers.

Add Dark Anor Londo and Darkroot Garden to your list. Those two are probably the funniest ones, even tho you better not care about honor, being outnumbered or anything for the matter. It's just a mess, especially the Forest. Which is fun.

When I referred to the burg I was referring to skipping the taurus demon to come back at high levels for pvp, from what I've read it has some sl 80-120 action, I didn't include the forest and dark anor lodo because they aren't dueling, they are chaotic FFAs at best and ganks at worst (generally speaking).

Kiln is at the bottom of my list for dueling. Whether it be farmers, estus-chuggers, or people that attack as I spawn, I just can't get any actual duels out of that place. I approach every fight in Kiln as an invasion rather than a duel. Even if it looks like we're having a good fight, they'll start chugging and I'll need to resort to Lloyd's and TWoP to keep them from running back to wear out Lloyd's duration. It's really a shame, I hate it when a good duel turns into a game of chasing the cowardly rat around to stop him from healing.

Now PAINTED WORLD, on the other hand, has become an excellent place for PVP. There's actually a big difference between the two spots you can invade at in that area too. If you invade at the entrance, you'll often be fighting people who are in the midst of doing the PVE content, so it's more often an invasion there (you may also run into farmers who like to bottleneck you at the bridge). If you invade near the tower though, most people are sitting in there waiting for duels. You'll also find a lot of red signs there. It's a really good place for some more organized pvp.

Must be the time-zone. I see the exact opposite.

the burg been weird lately, started anew knight char, picked up a red orb decided. "what the hell i'll invade" first ones a guy in giants armor with mask as are the next two and the 4th of my 4 invasion resulted in a guy one handing havels shield to full effect (probably invaded way up into ng+) no new players any where. either no ones picking up the game thats new to it or they all have heard horrible things about pvp there and never leave hollolw form, on a side note i've seen more suicide bloodstains of late... people ditching human form?
