Also, if I remember correctly, when you exit the painted world then re-enter through the painting, enemies won't respawn until you've rested at the bonfire there. It's interesting because, when you exit the painting, enemies in Anor Londo will respawn, but like I said those inside the painted world won't.
I discovered this while farming Painting Guardians to get a couple swords. Fastest way I found (or least annoying; the Darkmoon bonfire might've been closer) to farm them was to kill everything in between the entry spawn and exit to the Painted World. I'd kill all the Painting Guardians and run through the Painted World to make them respawn, and I wouldn't have to deal with any enemies in the painting.
Not the most important bit of information, but it is interesting!

You can revisit although you have to make your way till the end always, since the bonfire there is not connected to the others

Although If your character wasn't a silent protagonist it would make the second encounter awkward.
