DragonSlayer Spear, is it a viable option? Empty DragonSlayer Spear, is it a viable option?

Well i am working on a faith build that was originally going to be primarily reliant on the darkmoon blade miracle and sunlight blade miracle with dexteriy weapons but after contemplating it for a while i relized that a lot of people do that sort of thing. So my thought was find a build to switch into as i have already invested heavily in faith. I stumbled on a DragonSlayer Spear build and thought it sounded awesome but the AR seems to get a lot of flak from the community.

I heard that it sucks massively, but i'll never know, since I can never get Ornstein's soul.

It can ben good, but like Greatsword of Artorias, requires higher level than 120, and needs a specialised build.

I've been tempted to mess around with it but you'd need stats of this kinda distribution:

This actually sounds like a pretty cool way to break the mold a bit, I may just have to try this and if I didn't JUST get my first PvP character up to snuff (he's a moonlight GS build) I'd be all over it

It was my primary weapon for my first PvP character. Got bored because its too powerful. Longest range in the game, quick moveset, good guard breaking when 2 handed, and can attack behind a sheild. Very powerful if you know what to do with it, and switch between 2handing and using a sheild according to your oppenents weapon switching. Also good to keep distance so that you're in the sweet spot where you can reach them but, still staying out of their reach.

You need to plan your stats though. You don't really need 50 faith, but 40 end is needed cuz its kinda heavy. Note that dex increases the physcal bonus, and faith the lightning bonus. A sheild is nice to mix between 2handing and turtling, but that'll add to the weight as well.

But like I said, you can win with this weapon, but its not much fun.

but i agree with the heavy thing, if you were using those stats id have RoFaP on always, i have to just to keep health and stamina competitive while having nice attacking stats

Thanks for the input everyone. I didn't plan on using this character as a permanent build just wanted to mess around with faith and be a little bit less like the rest of the faith builds(eg. buff-reliant).

so you wouldn't recommend it because of it's power level?

EDIT: the reason I ask is because I have a faith/dex character I'm working on, and I was considering making him a dragonslayer spear character for similar reasons as Dfog, and if it isn't sportsmanlike (like I consider poise-stabbing to be) then I'd be happier taking this character in another direction...

If you're okay with winning with whatever means needed, including using a powerful weapon and annoying the hell out of people, its awesome. If not, do what I did, and switch to a rapier/balder sword/katana and buff it with SLB or DMB. Just as powerful, but becareful of being BSed halfway. And then there's these that circle the pillars for 60 seconds.
