evolving into something better Empty evolving into something better

    Post by billy_bayonet Mon Jul 23, 2012 12:37 pm

So im always pushing myself to learn new ways of fighting in Dark souls, Wether it be dueling in FC or Invading as a Darkstalker, my playstyle has constantly been changing.

anyway on to my point i am currently learning to how Med roll in PVP and not get killed i know that if i crack this and get good ALL of my builds will have so much more potential, another ring slot opened up a great sense of honour.

your average "dueler" in the burg will see your med rolling and just go for a BS, i have started to learn how to counter this by immediately kicking the git in the torso and have him take a leo ringed BSS to the chest, granted with Lag it has a 60% success rate.

now as for movement speed well it actually isnt an issue, after about 30 duels i really couldnt tell a difference in pace, weapons still swing fast enough,

i am doing this to make myself into a better player i dont want to stand on crutches anymore with Buffs and DWGR and other stuff, i want to stand on my own two feet and know that I killed that player, if anyone else would like to join me in this quest for PVP mastery feel free to join

Unlock and run a bit more often. I find that it really helps when not using fast rolls or the DWGR. The important part is just figuring out the delay right away, to lessen the risk of them just trying to BS you. As well if you notice them fishing, don't lock on. It makes it easier for you to force your front to them.

Try out the Murakumo with it. It is deceptive in appearance, and will make you seem like an easy target. But with the Dead Angles and proper timing, it's really easy to land blow after blow while barely in range of them while still just medium rolling.

lol, I use buffs all the time and my style heavily relies on magic.. am I a bad player cause of it? silly

Funny little pursuit, don't think I could ever handle it, I can't even dodge with light roll due to my lag and poor connection (and lack of skill too silly ), but medium roll is a hilarious thing to do.

I dont think it makes us bad serious... its just that playing without forces you to learn how to play better. if you take the skill of your opponents as a constant there is only so much you can improve fighting them with all the tricks in the book. giving yourself handicaps allows you to avoid stagnating to some degree.

I've only just tried the DWGR for the first time on Saturday night and after 5 or 6 duels I went back to my medium roll. I found I lost more bouncing around the place than my mid roll technique. I never found I was at a disadvantage to players using it.

I use mid roll on lower level builds with no problems but I feel like it's a serious disadvantage the higher in level you get. If you're going to mid roll, at least overload on armor and poise, then you look like more of a noob and get underestimated.

I would say the hardest things to deal with while med rolling is dodging spells and players who do the poke and roll tactic. Its tuff cause you need some type of range attack so that you are not just a sitting duck to their possible ranged attacks, but you need that range attack to be fast enough that they cant just flip right up to you and punish it. Also i can imagine chaos fireballs being a big problem, cause thats usually how i deal with a super high poise med roller.
