I remember in Demon's Souls, the reapers in 4-2 were good for Souls, where's a place in Dark Souls that gives the player a lot of souls? Is defeating bosses as a white phantom(repeatedly) the fastest way?

You can try using poison to kill the those body-slimes with spear and shield in painted world. Silver knights in Anor Londo also give a good amount of souls per run.

For Faith builds, Duke's Archives second bonfire (in the prison).
With Wrath of the Gods and sufficient faith you can run down to the pisacas and kill them all in about 30 seconds. That's 8000 souls right there. Or you can just run back and forth between the fire and the three crystal soldiers in the same cell. That's 1200 souls every 10 seconds.

Re: Good places/ways to soul farm?
Foolproof technique:
Need: DWGR, Havels Ring, Giants armor, one of Pinwheel's masks and the BKGA. Camp in the forest or dark anor londo and summon some helpers who look just like yourself. Let people invade you and gang up on them.
Now in all seriousness, One of my favorite places to farm souls is the Painted World. You can put your summon sign down near the beginning and help people through the level. On NG its about 15000 souls w/o defeating the boss, and about 30000 each time if you defeat the boss. The boss is a cakewalk with multiple people and you can clear the level in about 6-7 min if you have a decent host and you know the level well.

Re: Good places/ways to soul farm?
If pvp isn't your thing (or if you blow goats at it like I do), then you can just install yourself in the tomb of giants and farm those baby skeletons.
Silver Serpent Ring + Gold Serpent Ring + 10 humanity held + good large sweeping weapon = get rich quick
You'll get just thousands of souls per hour this way (each one give 121 souls on NG without the silver serpent ring) and a ton of humanity crystals. You can get around ten babies to spawn at a time. Just don't kill them one at a time. Run about and gather up all 8 to 10 of them and murder the little darlings with one or two swings of the ol sword/axe/whatever. They have such little health you don't even need to be a melee build to pull it off. Just bring a backup weapon or two because you will shred through durability. And make sure to loot those humanities double fast because the lootable bodies disapear in seconds.
If you start getting bit by the little blaggards just back off before you go toxic. If you run low on healing then swap in the Ring of the Evil Eye or Sanctus Shield. If you get poisoned you'll just need some purple clumps to cure you of your awful baby bites.
Don't forget to keep yourself human so that you can be propperly invaded and PvP farmed for doing PvE farming. Other players are a good source of both potential souls and humanity. And even if you lose and have to run back...you'll need something to break up the monotony of farming anyway. Why not get some adrenaline pumping while you're at it. And if you've killed Nito then I don't believe there's anything to fear of PvP anyway.

Re: Good places/ways to soul farm?
In anor Londo three poison arrows to each of the six giants by the first bonfire. Run toward the next two on the stairs. The first six die about when you reach the stairs netting 9k. 3k more for the two on the steps and homeward bone. Or keep going killing the two gargoyles on the way to the blacksmith. Another k there and around and up to silver knight archer and two giants by o&s for another 4300. Or...in dark anor Londo from princess bonfire kill the two darkmoon warriors off the steps for an easy ten. Over 14 with silver serpent ring and symbol of avarice.

Best place to farm souls is dark londo the 2 chicks outside O&S room. Symbol of avarice+silver dragon ring = 14K+ souls, 43K+ souls in ng.

And while you are waiting to get summoned you can keel Harpies!

Re: Good places/ways to soul farm?
I usually warp into Chamber of the Princess and spank the giants outside S&O, the silver archer up the stairs, the two giants out front, and the gargoyle-looking dudes in front of the giant blacksmith. 13k-or-so souls per run, takes about 3-5 minutes tops with travel time if you're doing it right. Also convenient because you can buy your twinkling *** right there, or whatever else you need. Plus it has the advantage of being very, very easily accessible -- you can warp literally right there.
If you're feeling adventurous, you can run back and forth between fireplaces in Anor Londo to pick up all the silver knight souls too, but I just find it's faster and simpler to keep it in the main hallway.

I usually farm the two giants and the silver knight archer on the hall before the O&S boss fight. Like Sids09 said, you can warp into the chamber of the princess and it makes things quite easier.
