Friendship in Dark Souls Empty Friendship in Dark Souls

Post by Razielthemanslayer Sat Jul 14, 2012 8:04 pm

In Demon souls, there was no one other than Stockpile Thomas and Yuria whom you could call a true friend, of course biorr and ostrava were nice, but they were pretty much obliged to help since there was nothing else they could do.

But in Dark Souls, there's actually lots of people whom you can actually call friends, Laurentius, Andrei, The Giant Blacksmith, Griggs, Rhea, Dusk and of course Solaire, being the best examples Laurentius, The Giant Blacksmith and Solaire in my humble opinion.

And of course there are the phantoms, symbol of friendship and jolly co-operation imho.

and now, the reason of my post, which are your opinions on this, has one of these characters in Dark Soul made it worth your time?. maybe gave you a lil bit warmth of heart like when the giant blacksmith says even though you and him won't talk much he enjoys your stay cuz you're his friend?. what about the ever so grateful dusk?.

This characters are an easy way to obtain humanity near the end of the game.... but maybe they have formed a teeny tiny little bond with you that hold you from laying a finger on them even if you're aiming the Dark lord ending? Certainly they have done it with me, I seriusly cannot conceive myself raising my claymore against me friends :3

In no specific order, I refuse to kill the following NPC's simply because I just like having them around. Well, technically I've killed one or two of them. Gwynevere and Priscilla. But only because I had to.

    1. Quelana. (She teaches me Fire Tempest, and her whole family got slaughtered by me and she is the one who hired me to do it. Anyone who gives me Fire Tempest to slaughter their half naked sisters and the rest of their family is good people in my book. Not to mention she has style, style goes a long way.)

    2. Priscilla. (She has nothing, she is pretty much abandoned by the world in her little lonely painting. Not to mention I just think she looks epic. And out of all of the bosses, she is the only one who doesn't just outright try to merk my sorry arse. That goes a long way in my book just like style does.)

    3. Gwynevere. (I know she's an illusion, but that chest.... It's too amazing to not try to hold with both hands. Errhem. Anyway, yeah I don't like killing her. Although I hate Gwyndolin so sometimes I just have no choice. I always feel a little guilty afterwards though.)

    4. Quelann. (The White Spider chick just makes me feel sorry for her. When she talks to me thinking I'm her sister, and tells me to be safe and all of that it makes me feel like an arse for slaughtering Quelaag. Even though the psycho-chick doesn't give me a choice. So I usually feel guilty and give her some humanity to keep her alive, if you can call that being alive.)

    5. Dusk. (She's too nice, and she teaches me Chameleon which I can use to troll people in the forest and other places. I can't stand the way her crown looks though, it looks like someone bent one side all out of shape. But yeah, she helps out too much for me to want to kill her. Probably because I don't bother saving her unless I intend to use her spells lol.)

Off the top of my head that's pretty much it.

I never kill any of the Blacksmiths either, but that's only because I never really bother with it.

Solaire Laurentius and Rhea have all added to the "friends" of the game and still give you hope even in dark times.

Everyone loves Andre cause he's so important silly
he's also the only one who really helps you out for helping you, rather than for personal gain.

Solaire is the ultimate bro in Dark Souls. On my first playthrough, I fought back in surprise when he went mad in Lost Izalith. When he gasped those dying words, a tear fell down my cheek. I then deleted my character and started over, joined the chaos servants, summoned him for Gwyn and praise'd the sun as he was sent back to his world.

I kill them all, but it does not mean I have relationships with them.

Lautrec is a humerous, respected, and humble comrade and rival.

The Pyromancer of the Swamp is always saved... Even if I don't buy or use Pyromancy. I like him, his depressed yet humble approach is sobering and entertaining to hang out with. I make sure to not hollow him.

Solaire I have grown in envy, pity, and hatred; I sometimes try to push him onto the Drak Bridge to fry him for my entertainment.

The Channeler by Gaping is a rival similar to Lautrec, yet usually I never kill him at all... More fun for me to prove I am better than him in almost every way except for sorcery.

Rhea is my companion of the church, usually saving her from the Tombs BEFORE I kill the gargoyle. Me, and sometimes me and Lautrec, just hang there to waste time, buying miracles and testing things.

Seigmeyer is my best friend, and the most interesting character of them all.

I also made relationships with Jimmy, if you did not know.

I also take pleasure in killing andre, as much as I take pleasure in killing the giant blacksmith and skeleton blacksmith (Vamos).

    So...

Suck it. Jimmy is by my side, he takes pleasure in the everlasting curse of killing them, too; it is not fair that these creatures are immune to what other characters of Lordran suffers from... No remorse for them.

People are going to hate me for this... I also kill Rhea, Patches, All Chaos Witches that I can find, and I Dark Hand Mildred all the time. I also kill all Firekeepers all the time, I even let the Firekeeper of Firelink Shrine and never return her soul. I usually eat her souls or use it to ascend, or just use it for other reasons.

I also pushed Iron Tarkus down the pit with two cages used as elevators.

If could marry the Darkmoon Knightness' sexy voice I would.

Unless of course The Maiden in Black called to me in her even sexier voice.

Acidic, your version of Lordran must be a lonely place indeed!

I think I may start a new build, and make him a real ugly s.o.b. (not hard to do in this game!) with the sole purpose of killing all the npc's and being a general douche! May even do what someone suggested in another thread, and gather the whole firelink crowd together & aggro them all at once! WoG spam ftw!

Oh Andre, I can kill anyone else without much problem but that bearded beast, I can just never do it. If only you could summon him for bosses, frankly I think he would be more useful than Solaire.

Well, I suppose I am an evil bastard - I kill every NPC including André but I give them all a fighting chance by having a boxing match with them (cestus) silly Though with ones that I dislike I use shards of glass to punch them (CMW Cestus)

Lautrec may just be my best friend in this game.....then i am forced to kill him :'(. the sun bros tho, they are like my family. i cant help but admire how much they do for everyone for essentially nothing in return. swampy is to nice to kill tho i do think hes pretty sad inside. on to the OP baldwin was your friend he was just to hard to admit it, god even ostrava becomes a friend, you can only save someone so many times before you grow attached. the maiden in black wasn't horrible to you either.

random, but fighting andrei with dual cestus at a somewhat low lvl is extremely fun. Its almost worth making a save just to try it. too bad hes so darn important. He has one of the most unique fighting styles of any of the npcs or normal enemies, although it is really easy to kill him if you just spam r1 with a powerful weapon before he can do anything.

Andrei is an awesome character, but when you get to infinity you owe it to yourself and to him to let him show you what a true badass he is. He will barefist your *** into the ground.

Then quick go kill papa Gwyn and start a new round and put it behind you.

I've always felt a bit bad about killing Laurentius in Blighttown, and I could never bring myself to kill Solaire. Killing him would be like slaughtering a basket full of kittens!
