greatsword swing speed glitch?

So I've been invading the forest lately with my lvl 178 darkwraith when I invade this host and his phantom. First it seems the phantom is going to back off and let me and the host duel. When I've drained most of the host's HP to a low level he backs off and the phantom comes in to fight. As the phantom moves closer to me I notice that he is using a GLGS so I put up my shield hoping to bait him into a parry. When the phantom swings his sword it apears to swing at the speed of a balder side sword not like a greatsword should swing. and with my timing messed up I quickly get cut down and sent home. Now I chalked that up to lag and didn't think much of it. Then today I'm invading the forest again and invade another host and phantom (SHOCKING) I notice the phantom is using a zweihander because the the distinctive blade in the middle of the sword and its length. So again I try to bait the phantom into a parry when he starts swinging the sword with the speed of a BSS or other sword of that class. Now I know it can't be lag that is changing the animation for the swing of an ultragreat sword to the animation of a short sword.

So am I crazy or is there some new glitch people are exploiting to change the swing speed of a weapon? If this is a glitch then this and the new dragon head one could be the worst ones yet. Imagine swinging an ultra greatsword with the speed of a short sword but still has the AR and poise damage of the ultra greatsword :affraid:

PS I play on the PS3 so its most likely not a hacker but I guess it could be.

It is easy to change, but it is easy to parry - don't be phased, it is the exact same speed of a normal zweihander or whatever weap it is and can be parried like so.

No it isn't, this is a very dangerous exploit players have learned to do. It is usually done on accident however, as doing it on purpose is very difficult, and insanely hard to do.

I don't know how to do the glitch, Tolvo does, but refuses to tell anyone because it is gamebreaking and currently "under wraps" even by gankers.

The worst I've ever seen is a Curved Sword Dragon Slayer Spear.

It seems it's just the weapon spawn glitch, zweih or claymores swinging like a katana. It has happened to me in the Burg. I don't think it's their fault though.

I know how to legitimately do it also, however I am not going to tell anyone about the technique.

yea i had it happen only once, but it seems purely cosmetic(although that does throw you off). I dont want to doubt the great tolvo though.

There are two versions of the glitch FPN, I assumed he was talking about the aesthetic one which is the SS glitch the other one is actually not purely aesthetic

It's usually done with the Straight Swords animation; as the straight sword is what the bug defaults to when happening unintentionally (which a good 99% of the time, it's on accident... and the host isn't even aware it happened). It is however possible to glitch the animation to be anything except a dagger, or the Barbed Straight Sword.

thanks, so I'm not crazy. Sadly it was not just aesthetic because I was rocking the much loathed full Giant's armor with Vamos helmet for style which gave me a poise total of 85 and I was stunlocked on the second hit from the zwei.

As long as this glitch stays underraps then its fine bc if it became common knowledge then it could be a sad day for pvp because everyone would be using an ultra greatsword with flip ring and hornet ring. And the heavy armors would become useless with their poise benefits nullified.

o.o; Jeez, sounds really, really dire. I think I'll just pretend I never read this and hope it goes away xD

Once the secret comes out, everything will go down the crapper. I hope it gets patched...

Good I'm not crazy. I could have sworn that thing was way too long for its speed. good on the gankers (god that sounds weird) for not spreading knowledge of it.

From can't patch it, because they don't know how it is happening.
Frankly it is so rare right now, I wouldn't blame From for thinking the glitch doesn't exist.

Sorry for letting the cat out of the bag that it does exist, just thought I was seeing things. Anyways before any glitch lovers see this(or at least any more of them) it would be great if a moderator could lock and delete this topic.

I'm pretty sure most of us on this forum (or at least the pvp active ones) know about this glitch, myself included. But it's going to be a matter of time, some people who know about the glitch will spread it further and further, until almost everyone will know about it. I believe there was a thread awhile back about this glitch.

@bloodpixel, thanks I tried searching for it and couldn't find anything, guess I should have searched harder, anyway I've loved playing this game and I'm realatively good at parrying greatsword but if this glitch becomes common place I might finally move on to something else and that will be a sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad day.

If it's as difficult to pull off as Rynn says maybe it won't catch on. A few times during PvP I had a glitch occur where I switched to my spear but I kept holding it like a GS. Is that in any way related? I have no idea how it happened.

I do not know how to pull the bug. I'd say "probably."

I've seen this a few times. I too thought that it was just a purely aesthetic difference. But I soon found out it was not.

wish I could say it was an extremely rare accurance but I believe I encountered it 2 more times tonight while invading the forest. Hopefully it has to do with signals getting crossed with the high traffic in that area and that the gankers didn't know how they were doing it. But either way I think I'll have to move onto invading somewhere else for a while.

Just imagine a Smough's hammer that swings as fast as a BSS. I'm tempted to try and learn this and bring the hurt to the gankers.

Oh god. Just imagine a BKGA swinging as fast as a dagger.

Imagine a dagger with the swing speed of zweihänder. That would be hilarious.

...or even better, a greatshield with the moveset of a spear.
