Hey. I read that it only actually becomes awesome when your stats are maxed out.

Overrated? Its compeltely totally completely Underrated!
check this out:
There is two versions of this Greatsword, one is cursed, and one is divine.
The cursed sword has C scaling in all stats, and it should do far more damage than the divine version with Your current stats.
http://tinyurl.com/78v25pj
Even if the total AR shows that the divine version does more damage, it actually does less because of the Split damage between magic and phisical, while the cursed one only has phisical damage (other people can explain better to you)
However, with 50 faith and 50 inteligence, the Divine version does more damage, because it has better scaling

But take the black knight greataxe for example... It does 403 damage with its rb attack without having to wait til your stats are maxed

In PvP, it is way overrated. It requires a huge amount of stats to make it powerful, and it is still outgunned by similar weapons, and has an inferior moveset, comparatively. Not to mention the split damage it does.

I prefer the Great Lord Greatsword, simply because it stunlocks like a boss. It's also the perfect GS for builds with lower strength (only D scaling in strength and dex, only requires 20 strength to wield)

yeah, both versions suck for pvp. theyre pretty awesome for pve along with my beloved GRANT(which is a lot better for pvp than both artoria's gs imo)

Re: Greatsword of artorias overrated?
The Greatswords of th Abysswalker are so overrated... I want the sword the Four Kings have.
Imagine a Ghost Sword that is a Greatsword or Ultra Greatsword. Wosh! Wosh!

Re: Greatsword of artorias overrated?
If you had 99 of every stat then would the GoA be the best weapon?

Re: Greatsword of artorias overrated?
No.
Scaling stops being very... scaling after 50. 40 it slows down its increase in damage... 50 makes it almost a halt in progression.
So if 50 in every stat can not make this sword the best, than the likelihood of it being the best with 99 everything is... close to 0.

Re: Greatsword of artorias overrated?
Actually at just 50 across the stats creates the best AR for the GSoA. Diminishing returns means you'll only get a few extra points after that.

He asked if the sword would have the greatest AR out of all weapons if the stats were 99 in everything.
I answered No.

Re: Greatsword of artorias overrated?
Well here's an AR comparison between both the GSoA and two of the hardest hitting Demon weapons, all attack stats at 99.
http://tinyurl.com/6mlf3ux
Now let's enchant the 2 demon weapons
http://tinyurl.com/6p5q5ak
Big jump in AR, right? till you check the damage split is more towards magic than balanced out like the divine sword. Still, take it as you will.

Re: Greatsword of artorias overrated?
Yes, it does damage like Wrath of God.
Going back to topic, every Ultra Greatsword, Great Hammer, and Great Axe surpass the Great Sword of Artorias AR wise if you scale with enchanted, Magic, Occult, Divine, and sometimes even Elemental and Crystals... an uncommon few even surpass it with just Normal Upgrades.

Re: Greatsword of artorias overrated?
Sorry, needed to edit my post. As for the difference in AR, it depends on what kinda damage you wanna deal and which defense your opponent has.

Re: Greatsword of artorias overrated?
A bit off-topic
Someone help me improve my english!
When no one uses certain Weapon, is Underrated or Overrated?
I.e the Moonlight greatsword is overrated because every INT build uses it.
The Pickaxe is Underrated because no one even consider to buy it.
Is that correct?

I use the War Picks when I use small hammers as much as I can. Is not as efficient as regular hammers, but they still can kill.

Re: Greatsword of artorias overrated?
Damage per second has to be taken into account too though. Sure the DGA is hitting for 712 and the GSoA for "only" 720, but you can swing the GS three times for every one swing of the axe....with less stamina used too.
My original toon uses it, (when I use him, admittedly not that frequently), he was leveled in all sorts of goofy ways since I had no idea what I was doing, and once I DID know, I decided to just keep leveling him to see how high I could get.
Here are his current stats and the resulting damage of the GSoA:
http://tinyurl.com/6wuoatu
....it is pretty damn good to be hitting for 700 damage, (even split) with the speed of a greatsword.

This is incorrect, because overrated means that people think it is really good (which is proven by everyone using it), BUT it is not in fact very good. So the moonlight greatsword is not a great example because it is actually very good.
Then Underrated means people thinks something is really bad (proven by people not using it), BUT it is actually quite good. So the pick axe is also a bad example since it really is actually terrible.
EDIT: I just know someone is going to reply telling me the piackaxe is a great weapon.

There. That just exactly what I wanted
And thanks Buggy, thats one great explanation
The GSoA is Overrated because only a few tipes of people use it:
1- Gankers who always have at least a phantom with them, so they can take care of lack of damage
2- Newbies, who think the weapon will destroy just because its beautiful and don't understand it
3- PVPers who don't care about Min/Max (exception)
