AVI works so it must of been a different format so..... LOL!
And I feel you man my upload speed is terribly slow and it once took 27 hours for a video to upload and after 9 hours it said an error ocurred.

Really? I don't know what's up then because only a few days ago I uploaded a video and it was in AVI format. Why not try converting it to MP4 or WMV.

You can download a bunch of video converters. There's a in-built video converter in Sony Vegas and in Adobe Premier. I use DivX to convert my videos but becareful if you plan on downloading DivX because it comes with a bunch of useless crap that took me hours to find and delete.

when exporting the video i get the option to make it PAL NTSC or both and then i have load of quality settings like making it MPEG4

whats that!? i just used my editign program to upload to youtube and it uploaded quite quickly but when it go to the end it said upload failed im getting very angry with the damn thing now its being a complete ****

Having uploaded like a billion youtube videos, there were a few times where a video would fail for an unknown reason. Because .avi is definitely a supported format, I might recommend deleting the failed upload and trying again. Re-upping anything that failed the first time usually worked the second time.
Most videos work almost instantly after processing for a moment (or a couple minutes depending how long it is), but sometimes certain videos will get stuck at random and take much longer (like a day).
Edit: Also, if you're somehow uploading directly from other software (I've never done that before), I would recommend using youtube to upload the video file directly from your computer instead. Just incase there's something weird with the editing software you're using.

the first attempt was a direct upload to youtube which took like 14hours to upload, and then the second time was using the software which took one hour because it was compressed so im not quite sure what to do

Assuming the editing software is exporting the compressed version to your computer somewhere, shouldn't you be able to locate the compressed / altered file and use youtube to upload it again?

maybe im not sure, i just looked and i cant find it anywhere, its roxio game capture/videowave im guessing if i find some way of compressing it and then uploading straight to youtube that i shouldnt have an issue?
