What does "nerf" mean?

hello folks,

since english is not my mother tongue I sometimes have to look up words in dictionaries. But I couldn't find the word "nerf". What does this mean here in DS context?

It means when an update to the game is made- and item, spell, weapon etc is made less good

It's usually applied to things that people feel are too good in the game and require a 'nerf'

Yeah, that's what it means. I think(correct me if I'm wrong here guys) that the term nerf comes from the toy guns called Nerf. They shoot those soft, styrofoam covered bullets.

Comes from the latin word Nerflateum, "Pilum Dictum Opium, pleum Nerflateum", a common term used by Romes enemies. Basically it beseeched the Romans to weaken their pilum spears as they were too strong and unhonourable\scrubbish. the phrase was first written down\recorded by Noobus Casuleus.

The reduction in power means it will be less useful or good. For instance pyromancy was reduced in damage after patch 1.05, and the Dark wood grain ring was made <25% equip load for it's flip instead of <50%

Nerf is a company that makes foam versions of everything that are "safer." So instead of a leather football which can hurt like hell if caught, you can throw a crappy foam one. They do also make guns which shoot foam darts and admittedly those are awesome.

Ok, ok, I know enough about that word!

Now, can anybody tell me what "grief" or "griefers" in the context of DS means?
Grief usually is a strong feeling of sadness. But in the context of the discussion about Mega Mule I don't understand this.
Are griefers people who excessivly abuse mm? Or are this people who are angry about this mm and its usage?

Please don't tell me too much funny things! I wouldn't ask If I were a native English speaker.

Griefer comes from the latin Griefeus......joking(anybody requests i will go in depth).

Griefer is basically somebody there to mess with you, no intention of fighting straight on. Mess up your game basically, runs off, tries to get you cursed, make you fall etc. I think you could class twinks as griefers as well, basically people who invade low level with end game weapons be it through a low level run or adding the items via gifts or bb glitching.

Griefers are people who do everything they can to cause grief, like for example people who lure you into killing NPCs as you try to hit them
Or people who destroy your buildings in minecraft.

In general, it's a way of hurting people in real life.

In Dark Souls, it can also mean low level invaders
