    Minimum posting for trading.

Post by WyrmHero on Fri Jul 06, 2012 12:40 am

I'm so bored I was looking at the trade and help section. I saw most of the guys who post there are newbies to the forum, and once their issue is resolved, they don't continue to post interesting threads in other sections. So I'm proposing that anyone who wants to post a trade or coop has to have a minimum of 30 posts (or whatever number of posts). This would mean a constant watch by the mods in the section so that those threads get deleted. I would like to volunteer if the idea gets approved (as a mod or forum advisor or whatever).

Indeed. This seems to have been happening for months now, if you have not noticed. The issue is similar to that of the guests who overpopulate the forums... see this thread here:

    http://soulswiki.forumsrpg.com/t1957-for-those-over-populated-guest-of-the-website

Some people show for a while to post in Trading Help... then they disappear. I saw a guy who had less than 10 posts (possibly 5) who had over 300 points. Points being obtained one way, by how long you have been on the site. That guy, ratio wise, beats everyone points to posts for sure.

We need you guests to join us... we are hungry for your content. Seriously, we want to consume you, make fun of you, and then kick you out once again... so make it easier for us to do that, by becoming a user lol

I know. I'm serious, I did find that about two or three months ago when I looked up someone's account that I did not recognize ever posting. I don't know if he still comes here or not, though...

IMO, I think we should just ban the guests. Resolve the problem all together lol .

Necrobumps are the new trend in the forums these days, coincidentally made by newbies. I say do it.

Does such a measure not kind of encourage spam...? and if people want help and don't feel like chatting on the rest of the forum so be it. I mean its not like trading and player help is buzzing with activity otherwise.

Don't ban the ghosts, but yeah there should a post minimum met to trade items, I mean, this is a community.

I have a suggestion to fix the problem though. How about if you are a frequent poster here and you wish to trade then we could simply give each other those items or free and if a newbie poster wishes to trade then we shall name a price for them.

This is not an exclusionary site, that would be awfully elitist to expect people to conform to those standards. If they post to trade so be it, much better than creating an account to spam.

Also no need for lurker hate. They may show up as "guests" but I am certain many of them find useful info here, or may be registered users themselves who are simply not logged on. Sometimes, it takes folks some time to feel out a community and work up the courage to post. Best we let them do that at their own pace.

I just wish the guest would just come join us rather than lurking, I want more people to chat to and bemuse winking

Also, just more view points, though maybe they don't post because they're scared of what the community's stance on things are?

    The issue comes with this.

"You can't be helped on this site until you have x number of posts."

People are going to be completely turned away by that. While we'll have some threads that never get resolved, or people just using the forum as a way to get help and contribute nothing so what? We don't have the player trade and help section for our own gain, it's to help people and trade. As long as people aren't breaking the rules I don't care if they just want things from us. We have informative threads, and helping threads. That's exactly what they're for. Sometimes people have nothing to contribute, but that doesn't mean they should be burdened or demonized. We'll be fine without them. At the same time, maybe our helping them and informative threads can get them talking. But you can never please everyone, we can try but it just isn't going to happen.
