    Unused armor on disc

    Post by BishopHavel on Thu Jul 05, 2012 6:30 pm

    So I looked on the internet for unused content and saw this:
    http://i.imgur.com/ef1cr.png

    It is a unused/unfinnished armor set. Is there any change that this armor will be available in the DLC? Any idea who or where they would wear these kinds of armor? To me it looks like the people of Blightown would wear this. Let me know!

    That's an early concept or the armour of Hawkeye Gough, who will be on the DLC....

    I hope that's not the finished armour set otherwise it will make me skeptical of the fact FROM has said the DLC is all new content :|

    Isn't this what Hawkeye going to look like:

    I swear that this is what FROM said it would be at some point.

    To be fair you can see the resemblance.. It must have been early concept of Gough's armour, as if you see images from the art book they brought out, there's loads of differences in concepts and things that didn't make initial cut.

    True I do see resemblance between the two. Though I prefer the one in the Dark Souls Design Works artbook better.

    @Havel

    Wow, never knew that was so far in production. I recognize it from concept art (you can find it in the Archives section of the forums, a thread by Yukon), and I believe it was meant to be Gough, as Serious said. But

    @Argetlam

    That armor looks AWESOME! Much better than the early concept. If that's Hawkeye, and he's in the DLC, I'll be very pleased. Thanks for posting that. happy

    There are at least several things that were partly completed and unused that are in the DLC, though, right? Perhaps it's just a matter of semantics, because I think that "all new" doesn't mean that it won't include any of the unused stuff.

    Weren't there unused character models for the
    Spoiler:
    chimera, top hat guy, and the chained-up thing?
    I believe those are all in the DLC.

    Though I agree that the OP looks like an early concept of Gough.

    It'd be cool to see if they do anything unexpected like complete Shiva's storyline, or give access to other unused items like the four kings sword.

    Miyazaki said in an interview, long before DLC or Pc port announcement, that they had tried to make a 'quest' that sent you back to Oolacile to rescue Dusk but due to many reasons it didn't make the final cut.

    So you're saying we shouldn't go back to Oolacile in the DLC because they had already worked on it? Seems dumb. The whole point of DLC is for devs to add content that couldn't make the final cut, and with budget and time restraints good ideas get cut constantly! So while I understand the issue with locked on disc content you have to 'buy' as DLC, a developer going back to an idea that got scrapped in the Dev process and finishing it for DLC is wonderful.

    I'm also pretty sure that the one Argetlam350 is the armor of Hawkeye Gough. I'm still not convinced that the one I posted is a early concept of Gough, but oh well.

    Dunno about you but I don't enjoy getting lied to my face like that.

    More dark souls for me. Nothing else matters. Guys also remember that Olaacile is only one of the new areas. Also I was always in a believe that the tophat guy was Hawkeye..

    Pretty sure Gough uses bow and arrow and not the sniper crossbow. I don't think he's Gough, but I want sure do want to wear is armor!

    Thats all opinion really. I for one like heavier metalic armors whereas others like lighter leather/cloth and so on so on. Cool is perspective.

    No, he was also an early concept. We just called him the Crossbow Sniper, because of the weapon he's wielding that's in-game. Many people were disappointed that he wasn't in the game after seeing his concept art, so we were generally happy to see him in the trailer... and that top-hat! Can't wait to get that off his corpse. happy

    What makes you think most of the content is on the disk? A screen shot of an armor render someone said is off the disc? Have more faith my friend.

    While I agree with the spirit of what you are saying, I think that it would personally depend on the situation for me. Development teams aren't universal, and if, say, the art team finish up early and work on DLC stuff that gets thrown on the disk before the entire part is ready, I see no problem with that. Development teams have to have the game finished several months before release. They aren't going to just sit on their hands for that time, they may as well work on stuff they couldn't quite finish but had progress on.

    To be fair Shkar, if they worked on stuff they never finished instead of say, implementing the good idea they had for bed of chaos.. that's a little disappointing silly

    Though again it's not the fact they did work on it, it's more that in every interview/article I've seen it's always said it's exclusively new content, nothing held back. While this is probably true as most of the stuff hadn't been created or pursued by the the initial release, if a lot of the DLC is stuff like shiva's quest and oscar's stuff then I think I have a right to be a little miffed.

    Still though, I do have faith that it'll likely be new content, especially the oolacile/artorias parts, it was obvious initially FROM had no intention of removing the mystery of those two.

    In response to the first part, it starts to get iffy there because it is trickier to change a game then to add on to it, in some cases. It's one thing to add a new map, it's another thing to go through and completely revamp a current one. It depends on what kind of structure the game has, as sometimes the way the game is built stops you from adding/changing certain things.

    I'll tell you guys right now. Most games these days are done MONTHS before release, the final disc build has to pass cert. That's when they start cranking out DLC. And go to work on day 1 patching if needed.

    FROM had no plans for DLC after release. They didn't decide to add contebt until the Pc port was given the go ahead, so they had little time to put this together and it only makes sense they would go back and finish ideas that had to be scrapped during initial development.

    Serious I think your definition of new content and mine are different. I see a big difference between content that got cut due to budget/time constraints being finished as DLC and content that was finished but held back to be sold as DLC, such as what BioWare and Capcom have been doing. When developing a game good ideas get cut constantly for a myriad of reasons its just the way the business works, DLC giving this stuff a chance to see the light of day is good.

    Overall Serious I think you're just being a little extra pessimistic.
