Online Experiences in PVP or Multiplayer? Empty Online Experiences in PVP or Multiplayer?

Post by bunnywink Thu Jul 05, 2012 1:59 pm

I was playing Call of Duty: MW3 last night. I was verrrry rusty and kept mixing up the controls with Dark Souls (for running and jumping...), but managed to finish one game 16:8 in team deathmatch. Then some kid messages me "reporting you". OMFG, FOR WHAT?

I seriously hate some of the people that play COD. I always get comments about my PSN ID being "***". And if someone is smart enough to realize I'm a girl, I get called "fat" or "ugly" or get told to go make a sandwich. There was one time I was playing late Tuesday night and some guy said that I must be very fat and ugly because a cute girl would be on a date. On a Tuesday night? Really? Hahahah. Okay.

So I was just wondering if anybody else has received hateful or stupid messages online while playing any sort of multiplayer game? I know there are quite a few people here who PVP in Dark Souls. What is your reaction and how do you respond?

    You dont respond. ever.

Also, take note of the community you play with, COD has turned into a di*k waving competition of muscle heads, college BROS, and since its rise to popularity, unending waves of children and preteens. All of them are trying to get their fix of sweet 360 no scopes. all looking to boost that K/D.R.

My advice? play a new game with a new community. or choose games that have more emphasis on teamplay, Killing Floor comes to mind....

(All this being said, the above statement is out of personal experience with the game, your experiences obviously may vary)

I remember one time I was playing Assassin's creed brotherhood online. I found this annoying kid on voice chat Playing lil Wayne really loudly and making weird noises.

Luckily, I get this kid as my assigned target. Rather than just killing him though I decided to chase him for the entirety of the match and prevent him from killing anyone. It was funny hearing him rage.

I did in Starcraft. People get angry when things don't go their way in that game... For good reasons, in most cases. Other times the guy/gal is making a big deal out of it.

I never made hate messages to people. When I send them, they are usually nice gestures and such. Peole usually do the same in PS3. They like my playing style, whether it is call of duty zombies, dark souls, dead space 2 (online), and other things. Sometimes I get a hate message, but only twice from Dark Souls and many rude mic comments from the other team... They don't like my style very much.

Best to ignore them, or lighten the mood.

I just mute anyone spewing random hate. I'm frequently "accused" of cheating, having no life, and being asian because I'm good at arcade racers (NFS, Burnout, Blur type games) and shooters. Apparently "no one whos not asian" can win 28 races in a row or get a 15:1 KD ratio. (sneaky prick)

So if you like the game you're playing, and idiots are detrimental to your experience, I'd mute them and move on, rather than playing a different game.

I don't know if you use a mic, but being helpful and/or better than the other players should decrease the random idiotic comments somewhat, but I wouldn't expect it to stop. Trolls troll after all.

BTW, your PSN is so cutesy that its entirely possible they are simply assuming you're a dude and a troll because many girl gamers try to keep it from showing in their ids to avoid some of the abuse. Its really a sad state, not helped by the sexism finger pointing going through our industry atm.

Perhaps if more girl gamers made it obvious they were girls and whopped *** as you claim to the abuse would die down some. Its tougher to act superior if you just got pimp slapped across the map for 10 minutes after all.

The only hatemail I've ever received was due to my crappy internet connection. It made me DC from the same host I had been battling (mainly losing to thanks to double teams). I get a message calling me a name or two so I replied about their need for a friend and their less than brave reaction to a few trees helping me out. So this anonymous person tried to say the most hurtful thing they could think of to me which was "BTW, I'm a girl and I beat you. Ha ha." Or something very similar. I hadn't even put a thought into gender because it hadn't mattered but I felt it was a little sad that this person felt that this should have been a crushing blow to me ego.

I assume the four letter words the two of you are using are "nice" and "boom" respectively. Not sure why you felt the need to hide those actually.

Hmmm, thanks for all the advice! I do have a mic, but I only used it when I played with my old clan - and I have to say that the harrassment is infinitely worse when the mic is on. Hahahah... I usually don't respond because I never have any witty comeback lines (until a couple hours later when one finally comes to mind), but a few of my clan mates would.

I'm starting to feel that not having voice chat on Dark Souls is a blessing.

@skare, a girl actually said that to you? Geez. She pretty much just put down her entire gender...

Well then Acidic.....your word is more

    Spoiler:

Bunnywink, that's pretty much what I thought. I responded something to the effect that I was sorry I had picked on someone with such a fragile psyche and that was the end of it. I don't think she was going for pity.

I would have to agree, I'm glad DKS is 'silent' as well. I only use a mic to relay tactical data to people I play with a bunch in shooters or to BS with guys I race alot.

It's a cult favorite TV show where the premise is a janitor is sent into space by two evil scientists and forced to watch the worst movies ever made as an experiment. To keep sane, he builds robots on his satellite for company. Two of the robots (Crow and Tom Servo) get to go into the theater with him and the three of them all crack wise during the movie. The kicker.....he built the robots out of the parts made to control the movies meaning he wouldn't have to watch them if he hadn't built the bots.

Watching movies? Hm, sounds similar to what robot chicken follows. So they are commentators of a movie(s) they watch each episode? How bad were the movies?

I'll read that answer in a few minutes... I stayed in bed from 10pm to 4:15 pm. I need a snack.

Really awesome mics have voice filters, but I wouldn't bother. Its not just you, being a girl just makes you an easy target. Anyone and every one get harassed on line at some point.

I cam say that gender means jack online wise. Dude or dudette, they can both be good and bad. I also like to point out that I have no problem with anyone over the maturity age of the German kid in counterstrike. Some 8 year olds that I know play mature games are more mature when I talk to them, than sone jockey teenagers or some troll that is 20 or higher.

Also, I can say that I don't have to derail any thread.
