Excluding Demon Souls, Kings Fields, and other FROM titles like Clock Tower, Eternal Ring, etc... What games have you played that have similar elements to DkS? Here are some I thought of and the elements they pertain to:

    Ico -
the scope (I remember looking down from the Flamelink Shrine for the first time thinking "This reminds me of Ico!"),
    the hidden lore
    the sense of the ancient

    Shadow of the Colossus -
similar to Ico but also with epic boss fights

    Ninja Gaiden (last gen) -
the precision fighting & various styles linked to different weapons
the hidden lore - the story didn't make much sense, but it seemed like it could have happy I remember reading item descriptions and wanting to know more...
    the difficulty

    Onimusha -
Haven't played this game in years but if I remember right, the combat and interaction with the world in general felt a bit like DkS

    Vagrant Story -
the interlinked levels - masterpieces in both games
    environment / ominous feel
    abundance of realistic weapons
    rich lore/story with profound conflicts
    feeling of vastness and awe

Gothic 1&2 - this one is a bit of a stretch, but the difficulty / lack of handholding in these games was so refreshing. Also, few games have given me such a sense of accomplishment. This, DkS, and Indiana Jones on the Atari 2600 - making my way through that confusing mess of a game was a true accomplishment!

Onimusha to me is one of the best games to ever come out on ps2. That's a game they need a hd remake of.

Zelda has bosses and dungeons. It's DkS light version.

Are those Monster Hunter games any good? I remember trying one on the psp and the interface was so bad (because of the psp's lack of a second analog...) that I gave up on it. I've read that they're a little shallow, but I'd be willing to give it another try...

Definitely Ico in terms of atmosphere, and storytelling through gameplay not prose

the only series i find more enjoyable than the souls series, it has a steep leraning curve and the analog thing is fixed if you get a vita, it is not shallow at all, theres no many ways to tacke the game, way more than demon's or dark souls.

I think the game was called "Nightmare Creatures" or something to that effect. It's the only other game I've played that produced the same type/degree of fear.

Have any of you Monster Hunter fans played GodEater Burst? Its soo good. Monster Hunter light in terms of depth, but man the action is boss!

On topic, I agree with the Ico and Shadow if anything cause of the depth. The game that I played the most before Dark Souls was Shadow of the Colossus! In terms of gameplay, not sure. I would mention typical action adventure rpgs, but I feel something would be lacking.

Same here. You'd be creeping around all slow, and all of a sudden some giant god damn beast would come exploding through the wall.

"Okay, everything's cool here. Just walkin' around, no monster types in this spot. Everything's coo---HOLY F*CK!!!"

I have to agree about Zelda. When my kids first saw me playing DkS I told them its basically Zelda on steroids! Now my son is hooked and my daughter is well on her way! lol!

And I had completely forgotten about Nightmare Creatures. I never beat it but I remember it being crazy hard! If I recall it was a lot more "hack-n-slash" though.

Yeah it was. It's mostly just the atmosphere that I thought was similar. Love that stuff.

Nier shares the passive backstory storytelling technique and the desolate, civilization-in-ruins theme too.

    I effing love that game.

It's somewhat strange that there aren't many games similar to DkS. When I finished playing Zelda (OoT), I dreamed of a similar game but with RPG elements. Still to this day, this game "genre" is still a mystery to most developers.

How to make an actual game and not an interactive movie is still a mystery to most developers.

THANK YOU. And every game trailer is three minutes of cutscenes. Zero gameplay.

    Diablo 1 & 2 ,

these are the only PC games Ive played , never PvPed

Eversince I was a kid Ive been looking for similar games , especially style , lore and design wise. Ive enjoyed Champions of Norrath & Baldur's Gate for a bit , but meh ,

I love dark dungeoncrawlers without annoying happy elves , hobbits , bunnies or orcs bounce

Dark Souls is the only (real) RPG type of game I like on Xbox.,

    duelling is awesome
