Phchological warfare
Hey guys, I've noticed a lot of argument and debate over this topic, and I must say its a very interesting one. Who is the REAL winner in a duel. The one who wins but does whatever it takes to achieve it? The player who can say good game even in pure defeat? And who is the winner in a fight when one guys fights naked and the other wears armor? I mean obviously being naked isn't easy, but getting a fully armored giant with more health to near death shows something right? Or do you feel being naked was the players choice, and that he should accept the repurcussions of his decisions? But does that mean he should wear full giants and raise his stats as well? And stoop to the same level? Also is roleplaying an excuse to be a douche? Just because I'm a pure siegmeyer build I should be able to fish backstabs as much as I want? Please voice your opinion

Re: Phchological warfare
the surviver is the winner - no question
btw: if i see someone naked i watch my steps - i also have a fastroller build with ultragreatsword and greatshield, pants only for looking good. Could be a very dangerous player if he thinks, that he don't need armor....

Re: Phchological warfare
I believe whoever wins, wins. I don't care if I'm in a 3v1 fight against ninja flipping, havels wearing hackers. If I die, then they won. Did they display any show of skill? Absolutely not, but they killed me, therefore I believe they won. It only makes me want to get good enough to overcome my handicaps to beat them later.

Very interesting! But did you know many players purposefully put on handicaps in the event to use those handicaps as a scapegoat for losing. Like I quote " I only lost because I wasn't giving my all. I fight me with my real gear and ill kick your a&*" and I say " sure by all means id love to fight your main build" and then receive no response. I used to think these people were just busy with real life things but it happens much to often for that. Thanks for your input though I really appreciate your perspective

The survivors may win, but the real winners are who fight against great enemies and endure. They may die, but never lose.

Yes, I know people do that sadly. I also believe people need to put up with the handicaps they give themselves. There should be no complaining, unless it is to yourself to fight better.
Thanks, I really enjoy your threads as well.

Very coolA I also think the true winner is the victor no questions asked. But I also believe that achieving victory without stooping to the same level shows that you are FAR superior in skill. But at the same time I believe that true winners are those who never give up. Its rather tricky in debate lol But thanks for posting. Itx very appreciated

Thank you. And its So debateable because while its disrespectful in a sense not to give every player your all, you also won't be able to progress without putting on handicaps to see how low you can go while achieving victory. But in the end I believe the handicaps were the players choice to get better. If you died you lost. Your input is very appreciated letter I hope you know that because all of these perspectives from plaayer really broadens my own. Is exilerating

Obviously, the guy who leaves a lasting impression.
"oh yay, spell-spamming/gankers/bs-fishers" (heavy sarcasm)
"Did that guy just kill me with a Barbed Straight Sword?!" (incredulity)
"Jeez, never thought a dual shield guy would be tough" (praise)

Re: Phchological warfare
at the end of the day, the one who wins is the one with the sense of accomplishment. this can be gained in any number of ways, learning a new technique, helping a new player, and as much as i hate to admit it, griefing them as well. you can beat someone down from now till sunday, but if they feel they gained something, they haven't lost. basically, if you do not believe you lost, then you have not truly lost.
in a strictly PvP scenario though, the one who wins is none of those, but rather, the one better able to outwit their opponent.

I use a handicap on occasion but I use it to challenge myself and not as a scapegoat for losing.

Re: Phchological warfare
The winner is the one who has the most fun. Usually it's the one left standing... but not always.
Case in point: Early in my playing I was backstabbed over 20 times with a bare fist by my opponent before I finally killed him. I did not feel much like a winner at that moment.

Re: Phchological warfare
I'd honestly think it would depend. If it's a match that was supposed to abide by some sort of rule(s) of honor and one of them breaks it, well they didn't really win did they?
In any other type of situation whoever won has won. It doesn't matter if the invader was honorable or the host was just ganking. Unless you can beat the other your the winner.

If we are talking about honorable fights, theres no loser. Both of the fighters wins, their honor is intact.

Think about it this way, in a real duel, you get stabbed you die, he wins. Black and white. Doesn't matter if at that point in your eyes he cheated or was not honorable.

^. The worth of the win is a different matter entirely, but unless they broke PRESET terms of engagement then the winner is the person not dead when the dust settles.
