Japanese Players vs. Rest of the World.

So I've pretty much spent all day watching various PvP videos for Dark Souls.
I've noticed that the Japanese Players are in various Armour Sets, using loads of different Weapons
& are engaging one another head on with Weapons, spells, bows you name it.
There's even some solid Riposte going on.

Then there's the rest of the world...
And these videos aren't nearly as entertaining almost everyone is in the same gear, using the same
set of weapons like -
Giant's Armour, masks, Havel's, Claymore's, Zweihanders, DWGR, fishing for backstabs, TWoP, Divine Blessings.
And just generally being cheap & knobish

Guess my question is... Y >WE< NO HAVE INDIVIDUALITY IN DARK SOULS!?

Japanese players have a sense of honor and us "Westerners" just wanna win so we go with the most effective (at first glance) builds

Japan has an entirely different culture. I suppose in some ways it's better, but in others it's definitely worse.

If our culture were different, we might have more variety in Dark Souls. But what else would change? Be careful what you wish for.

Think the only thing that'd be nice is to actually see people using different things
rather then "I got my *** kicked by that so I'll roll the same!"

Or for From to actually create classes and each class has a counter class.

I use 'poor' weapons & probably equally poor builds but least there's some sort of
individuality to it all.

Hmm, funny because nowadays whenever i see a japanese person invade me they are usually the ones who are cheap, i.e. backstab fishing while wearing giants etc. Not to say other nationalities i see don't do it either but that's generally what i get. Also, i see alot of youtube videos of non-japanese people who have skill and aren't wearing housewife set-ups.

I always take great offense when people claim japanese (or asian) gamers are better than the rest of the world. For some games, like Starcraft, it's true. But that's because it's an organized sport there where players make a lot of money. Start paying gamers as much here and I guarantee we'll be just as good (a few westerners are making waves in the SC competitive world, too, which is a huge accomplishment considering the cultural difference I just mentioned).

As for Dark Souls, I think the difference is who's filming their gameplay, and what for. The japanese exhibit more variety and overall, when I watch their videos, I get the sense that it's purely for entertainment factor. They're half-trolling most of the time; they'll heal multiple times during a fight, etc. Westerners will try to exhibit skill more than being entertaining.

Also, hell, get me a capture card and I'll show you both skill and originality. Japanese players are not automatically better than the rest of the world, or more original, or more clever... Their speed runs are damn impressive, though! But I have no doubt we could match them, if there was as much interest for that in the west as there seems to be in the east (seems to be a healthy speed running competition in Japan. Get some competition started here and we'll match them, for sure.)

the way i see it, every style of play should be able to defeat eachother if there used correctly, like a tank can take down a small nimble speedy character and vice versa if the play knows how to use their build properly. But the way this game works, you can have a character with mask of father, havels gauntlents, giants chest piece, some retarded skirt with the dwgr, thats wielding a electric claymore, so now you have a fliping tank that does a crap ton of damage which eliminates the point of useing either a small weak yet nimble class or a tank class because now your facing a dude that has best of both worlds with no penaltys what-so-ever. Which brings me to my next wish. BANISH THE STUPID DWGR FOREVER PRETTY PLEASE. Or at least have it where only fast rollers can use it. And that is all.

Being on Xbox I haven't had the opportunity to face-off against many Japanese players, so I will exclude myself from the discussion. Having said that, I'm not sure why you got downrepped solely for offering your opinion.

I too notice that Japanese players even if some are rather cheap in their methods do make an effort to be different. I PvP'd a guy rocking dual rapiers one time, another guy was LH scythe and dagger combo..

The only players I've ever seen go armourless in PvP were japanese too.

However, there's plenty players who use interesting builds all over, and the same with horrible built for substance over fun builds are everywhere too, not just us westerners being ***

they've had the game longer right, its possible they've hit the satge where victory via anything but skill is boring and so they do interesting stuff to keep the game fun, another month and we'll probably see some new trends (if the friggin dragon head glitch is fixed anyway otherwise that'll just replace the mask tanks)

Disagreed. I'm in Asia Server. There are jacka-ss just like the Western server.. but 1 think I must comment is that they tend to Bow before a fight, and rarely stabbed you when bowing. And less Rage quit.

Agree with the dress code thing. A group of them like to look Cool. Not so much about efficient, but not the entire population.

Cultural differences do not make others better or worse, just different.

lets just say this. I myself has had alot of fights where they fish for backstabs but i have had battles where the person has waited for me too kill the enemy that was attacking me, give me time too heal then fight me honorably i really wish there were more honorable people like that in this game. I yes do admit i have the one armor set on all the time but i also change my weapons alot, from using long striking distance ones e.g the scythes and also the short striking range like the great axe but i believe that it doesnt matter on the builds or equipment it depends on skill.

Japanese players are some of the cheapest parry fiends and bs fishers in the forest. I hate invading anyone with a japanese name, I can expect cheap tactics from most of them.

Like Tattered hood+tattered chest+dark leggings+dark gauntlets+g. halberd+pyro glove= freaking fun build. I've gotten kinda tired of it. And I found another way to have a fast roll with a shield

crystal mask+gold hemmed chest+iron bracelets+warrior leggings+flamburg+grass crest shield= another fun build

I just suck at PvP hahahahaha!

Oh, and define "we." The forum? I know the regulars, minus a few of us, pretty much love playing new and different builds/armors. I know Amos is one person in particular, and he's British!

You can't blame people for trying to be efficient; you should blame Soft for the horrible balancing. I personally think serious PvP in the Souls games is a laughing matter due to that issue.

Just get comfort in the fact YOU are being original, and stop caring about what others do.
You will see how happiness ensues.

Also, there is no such thing as a superior or inferior culture. Except maybe Basilisks. They will rule the world sooner or later with those little, devilish eyes, you know.

There's individualality, hell, my favorite weapon for pvp is the giant's halberd.

I get bs fished and chain bs by everyone, regardless of their location. Ive also had people to ow and not heal etc from all over. I see family masks and flipping giants armor people and have had duels with really cool unique builds from everywhere. I honestly havnt seen much of a difference, good or bad.

Will say my viking build had an awesome dual with a samurai looking japanese build too

You could even bring the unoriginality argument against cosplayers too.

The japanese invasion & duel videos are indeed the most entertaining to watch., love sansviedotcom's channel on youtube

And I dont care about looking original , but I do care a lot about how my character looks , so most of the time I do end up looking original

I'm well aware of cheap Japanese Players & Honourable/Skilled Western Players.
I wasn't trying to generalize anyone or any culture I'd just watched really good Japanese video's
& not so good western ones.

Put it down to bad YouTube choices if you will.

And not once did I say that the Japanese were better... They just didn't come across
as a bunch of clones.

Isirith you'll probably find that a lot of our Japanese buds are DS vets, as being one myself I find it very hard, no nigh on impossible, to stick to one set-up, and as such I find myself continually mixing it up (usually with disastrous results ).
