Post your favourite or epic themes from video games. Dark Souls themes need not apply, we already know how epic they are.

As you can see from my choices, I am fan of Timesplitters Future Perfect.

I can't really think of any one song in particular, but games that I really enjoyed the music of are the Halo series, Dragon's Dogma, Portal 1 and 2, Bioshock, and the Metroid Prime series.

I also greatly enjoy the "hidden songs" on the Nazi Zombies maps, This one being my favorite, and I also feel like Fallout 3 had music that went very well with the atmosphere, though I'm not about to start putting all those old songs on my phone or anything silly

How do you all narrow it down to just 2 or 3?! Seriously, I had to squeeze this down to just my absolute top and I still came up with 6 lol!

Anyway, you'll notice I'm not big on the "epic" sounding music, and I more prefer the songs that are either solemn or upbeat. You've heard one "epic" track you've heard 'em all and they really are more about the actions or the character than the setting, but music that really captures the mood of an environment can solidify the setting and make the level itself a character. So in no particular order:

I love songs from the Metal Gear Solid series. In fact I love them so much that there's just too many to list.

But another song I like is "Sad But True" from the Resident Evil 5 Soundtrack.
    Have a listen!

I'm not the right one to judge your work maybe, because with my rather decent english skills I maybe don't really get everything right... the song may come off a bit too arrogant cheesy/dramatic to someone not that deeply involved in the game silly but yeah, pretty cool though! It's just that I don't really like rap with such over-dramatic classical music, it's just... too much (I don't know another way to express it). Sorry, I really don't mean to just talk it down, just being honest... winking Completely deserves a thumbs up though!

EDIT: one last one, I had the great dissatisfaction playing this game. it was terrible. BUT. i could listen to its soundtrack for hours. Tim Follin is a god at what he does and it clearly shows as he makes simple beeps and tones into this:

Halo, especially Halo 3. I used to wait until I'd heard all of the intro music before a started the game.

Castlevania (all of them). Metroid Prime, I can still remember Phenandra Drifts, a perfect marriage of visual and audio. FFVII, Cosmo Canyon particularly.

I'm going to have to disagree. It is a trend in games for music intended to be epic to sound pretty much the same as all the other music intended to be epic, yeah. But, to take yet another chance to advertise skies of Arcadia, Epic in skies of Arcadia is vastly different than the "you have no hope" epic and the "you are king ****" epic in most games.

You really are just argumentative for the sake of being argumentative aren't you?lol!
Alright, I'll bite, though I can tell this will likely end with us simply having different ideas of what "epic" means in the context of music and not being able to reach a real conclusion winking

I'll start off by saying that, to me, "epic" music is used to emphasize actions, rather a setting or character. What this ends up boiling down to is that all "epic" music ends up being used for the same purpose, and very rarely will two "epic" tracks carry different meanings. This isn't to say "epic" tracks can't differentiate from each other, just that very few do or even try to. They almost always exclusively set the tone for "this is a big and amazing event the characters are taking part in." To provide some examples of this idea, I get very little out of the following songs because they all provide the same message in the same way. And for the record, these are all songs that I actually like, they just don't offer anything more than a very generic feeling of action:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPNdha5En9I&feature=relmfu
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PewpLAWlzhQ&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oX51T-EipOo&feature=related (yeah I went there, come at me bro silly)

Now back to a point I made earlier, this doesn't mean a song can't be atmospheric yet also still convey an "epic" feeling. In other words, just because a song's purpose is to convey a feeling of action, that doesn't mean it can't go beyond and add some meaning beyond that. The song from Skies of Arcadia you linked to before falls into this category. It goes beyond simply being "epic" and adds depth and emotion to it. I've not even played the games, but I could get a sense for what kind of emotions were going through the characters and player as I listened to it. This is what differentiates an atmospheric piece as opposed to an "epic" piece. Again, for proof of concept, the following I would classify as atmospheric as opposed to "epic" since while they have a "this is going to be some great action going on" undertones, that isn't the only or even most prominant emotion elicited from the piece:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3Sf98K2oR0&feature=relmfu
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCrCmlrmHqg
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlF0-Qs2xkI&feature=related

So I still stand by my original point; If you've heard one song that is written only to be "epic," then you've heard them all. However, you can still go one step beyond and add emotion to the piece, and it is these more emotional pieces I am partial to.
