What am i doing wrong?

I have gotten a lot better a parrying, but i can never land a riposte. I have parried at least 15 gankers today and i have riposted once :suspect:
I am standing right in front of them and attacking while they’re in the animation. Less than one sec after the parry.

id say its some form of lag, try quick getting aound behind them and BS...either way you dont need 2 backstab 2 win...i never use it and i rarely lose

Use the time you have to take a step forward after the parry connects. A lot of times you still need to line it up after you get the parry, and you'll have plenty of time.

Most of the time there’s another trying to BS me, so i don’t have much time. But i will try stepping forward, thanks for the tip.

Yes, I also find it a little screwy sometimes because the parry animation turns their torso to the side a bit. Stepping forward and slighty to your left to square up with their front can make it easier to land.

try to be right in f ront of him like befowler said. also if the ground is uneven sometimes you wont land the riposte, it happens to me all the time in the kiln when people run away.

I've noticed that with lag sometimes the positioning is fine but you need to wait outside your normal parry opportunity. With PvE I hit parry then riposte so fast it's almost like one button switch (when I do it and I don't always hit the parry) and that will engage the riposte animation. In the forest I've had to wait a second or two before it would activate meaning I just jammed R1 a few times until it took.

I agree with Skare. I find positioning isn't that finicky (I rarely re-position myself before a riposte, and land them the majority of the time; only ever-so rarely, do I miss a riposte, and know it was because I should have re-positioned myself) but timing is. I often get a regular hit in before the riposte (yay free hit!), so I'd recommend you try waiting a little longer than you are now before trying the riposte. Like Skare said, in PvE you can press L2-R1 instantly, but in PvP you need to delay a little.

That's rare, I always land a riposte right after I parry. After the parry, push forward and press R1 as soon as you see the stun animation.

I always go for an r1 or r2 with my choice weapon if it is dex before riposting - makes up for my lack of Hornets ring

I know if i'm going to hit a parry so as soon as I hit l2 I will hit r1 with most weaps although if I want the r2 I wait a second then r2 r1 instantly after that for a BSS R2 into riposte.

That's insane o.O I can put my hornet ring away... combine that with a kick + GC on wake-up... my mind is boggling.

haha, I learnt that trick in the forest - I thought I would rather have a cloranthy or wolf ring on and look like a boss and swap to RTSr when I get low hp oh and have I forgot to mention if you do this with SLB and Leo ring my oh my does it reap its rewards.

Right, I get you, but how to guarantee that extra hit?

Practice and timing - you can get two BSS r1's before the riposte. so on that dude it would have been 1200 damage before the riposte... +1k 2.2k that would be most people dead

Could you pull this off (theoretically) with GC? The timing would be hard i'm sure, what with the weapon swapping but; GC into riposte?

hmmm It is possible probably with GC but I would suggest switching to pyro flame in OH as soon as parry occurs l1 then r1 - that would be about 2k overall so not bad xD

It's weird for me, but you do have time. Usually I can get them once with a normal R1 hit, before I get in a little closer to them for the riposte.

Most of the time a GC will stun opponents, which closes the riposte window.

Ah, so it only works if they have enough poise not to get stunned. Does that apply to the R1s too?
