I dont go out of my way to get them. Which can be annoying when I find a situation I would really like a particular one and dont have it.

I constantly forget to get them, then try and use one and get mad at myself lol.

I really only care about the Praise the Sun, Joy, Hurrah, and What is it ones. I hate having to do Covenant-shenanigans to get Shrug and Look Skyward (also known as Facepalm).

The "gesture" where you can't use an item, like attempting to use a Soapstone when offline, is better than Shrug. It's really all I need, since I'm not really a respectable online player anyhow.

Its the weirdest thing, but I always go through the patches events so that he becomes a vendor and I can grab prostration from him. Not sure why, but not one playthrough has passed that I didn't make this happen. Strange...

After I got prostration, I would always just kick him down into the hole then walk over to the edge. Cutscene would commence nonetheless, and Patches would respawn back at the top.
Or I would just kick him down and go kill Nito.

It's an annoying detour to get it (kill the hydra, run across the lake, quit/ load game, kill the golem, speak to dusk, run back across the lake, summon dusk... that's not even mentioning it isn't an area I'd even go to were it not for the gesture!), but I always do.
