Ok. I know the commentary isn't the best, I should have redone it, but I don't really care. It's unlisted, so only you guys can see, and the commentary isn't important. It's my lack of skills.

SO! What did I do wrong?

You need backstab fighting practice badly. (try and get someone to fish and fight with fists so you learn what leaves you open)
that light thing is gravelord sword dance or gravelord greatsword dance if you learn to recognise its punishable or you can get out of the way. in my opinion it is far less nasty than the fire AOE attacks of its kind...

You seem to come in too close for your weapon very often. on one you rolled into straight sword range and got BS'ed for it.

some people will have the poise to survive a swing from your halberd and if so they may well roll through and go for the stab so keep distant. (if they are good at I frames they may survive anyway...)

As I am not much of an expert basically all I can see there is use the full reach of your weapon to keep them on the back foot. roll and swing with them far away as opposed to rolling into them and trying the swing. that leaves you open. (ignore this if your trying to use GC or going for a Bstab) anyway! I am curious to see what more experienced players make of it and you are not as bad as you seem to think! big grin

maybe chain bs them and see how they like that? your vit sucks, most people in the burg are tryhards and have above 2k hp and stack poise so i dont think you will be stunlocking anyone any time soon. try to not get oo close to your oppoent, specially if you know all theyre gonna di is bs you and when you do the rolling attack try to have your back to a wall that way you wont get bs'd.

Parrying a phantom or as a phantom is hard, lock on is well worth it for parries IMO, and you dont use a shield do you? so it might be tough trying to parry...

Distance distance distance. Always strike with the tip of the weapon. With the fights there you'd be jamming them with your fists. Way too close for that weapon. You're using a long reach weapon and trying to roll on top of your opponent unlocked which also causes a few problems. You end up too close or behind the person which means free backstabbies. If you like the roll attack start it from further away and aim just to the side but still near their front, not the back. Unlocking is great but only if you set yourself up to make the hit connect. Another problem is the roll too close means you're losing sight of your opponent and they have a wide variety of options to make you pay for it. You're going in aggressive which can be a big help if you can get right back out again but means that you don't have time to establish the pace of the fight. Like was already mentioned you're not gonna one or two shot anyone (although it looks like they can do that to you) so you need to control the pace. Try starting with lock on and study your opponent. This will allow the camera to be your friend and help prevent some of those spine ticklers. Once you either have them respecting your approach or see opportunities they give you for openings, that's the time to unlock if you're going that route. You do a good job of tone setting with pyro so don't be afraid to use that. It's just as legitimate to fight with that than anything else. I fought a pyro last night that made me keep some distance. Similar set up but mura and pyro glove. I had to spend a good chunk of time evading to land hits because the pyro can control the area. Even just flashing a quick shot can let your enemy know they need to respect distances a little better.

    Right, a list.

You're too aggressive with the roll r1s, they get you bsd a lot. Use it less frequency and at the edge of its range to cut down on that.

Fire tempest only works as a punishment for things with longer recovery times or as a suprise.

Throw your fireballs lock off or they'll never hit.

Use gc less. keep the opponent at range with the halberd and great fire orb, use gc lock off as a punishment for bs attempts or to push them back into the effective range of your halberd.

Be less aggress in general, its to easy to punish a miss with either your halberd or pyromancy, so attack less and bait or counter attack instead.

Roll less, you expose your back and waste stamina rolling constantly.

Control the range. You're swinging up close with a halberd, thats begging to get bsd. Only use the r1 attacks at the edge of their range.

Like I'm sure its been said before learn to use the range of your weapon to your advantage. Using a halberd is wonderful if you can exploit the range.

As far as some of the other things you had trouble with this is what I have leanred/have to say.

First off, locking and unlocking. The problem you had here is learning when to lock and when to unlock. I use backstab/parry builds and for me, I unlock to avoid getting bsed and to preform an un-engaged bs. To avoid a bs by unlock simply unlock and pivot to face your back when your opponent is fishing. You can also do this to preform a pivot parry but I won't get into that here. You can also unlock to walk around an enemy doing a slow attack to get a bs. There are many video's on that that I can link you to.

Second is the Black Knight Greataxe. As said before you can block parry it for an almost guarantee'd parry. Its extremely easy and with a bit of practice and confidence the bkga will no longer kill you, ever.

Because of that I'd begin using a shield of some kind. I noticed you wielded a halberd and a pyro flame, I'd use the pyroflame in your right hand, second to the halberd, and then equip a basic shield in your left hand. So long as the shield blocks 100% physical and has a parry animation you're set. I'd recommend the DragonCrest Shield as it blocks fire and is light. the Black KNight shield is a good one to use too.

The last thing I can say is learn what different weapons and spells look like and do. This can only come from experience. You'll learn what to expect and be able to prepare yourself for it. On my current character I carry two weapons, a bandit's knife and a silver knight strait sword. The knife is for large weapon users so that I can parry/bs them. The skss is for smaller weapon users who I am not as easily able to parry.

Basically, you just need practice. In my opinion the burg is a horrible place to do so. There really is no "best" place, but I find that I see less variety in the burg. Some of my favorite places are currently the depths, the forest and the painted world. I feel I see a lager variety of builds and styles there.

Fighting with the G. Halberd is difficult but I really want to see the stats of your build. Your Vit is way to low and your are using a pyro build so I think you should have at least 1800 HP (RoFAP and 50 Vit). You are using a Fire G. Halberd, what's your Dex? I suppose your Dex is 45 so I think you should practice first with a normal +15 Scythe. I see you are practicing non lock fightning which is prone to be bsed so I can't say to stop practicing because I never fight without lock on. So continue your non lock fightning practice and show us your build.

your vitality looks very low many of your opponents probably have 2 or 3 times your hp putting you at a big disadvantage and allowing them to one-hit bs you

you're fighting a japanese player thats why you're losing lol jk but seriously heres some tips:

    1) Distance. You are using a halberd so zoning is important, use pokes to dwindile and test how your opponent reacts and to see how much hp they have then adjust accordingly.
    2) Pattern. Dont just spam fireballs/combustions mix it up. From personal experience I find that locking on to a good opponent while tossing fireballs is almost imposible to land. Learn to throw without locking on.
    3) Poise. The determining factor of most matches with mid-heavy weapons. Its like hyper armor in ssf4 so get atleast 40
    4) Patience. You cant overpower your opponent espeically with light armors. You get too aggressive with the rolls and pyros that it starts too look desperate which is why half the time your opponents simply circle around and wait for their opening

Just using them does make one connect from time to time. But, it's mostly best a surprise. Same sound and a very close start of an animation makes it perfect to switch after using a few combustions. And the tempest is great for after I use a few firballs, hit or not, they'll come at me. If I do it right (usually it was random, but I realized today, it's if I'm in a corner. Though, I just got bsed by ALMOST being in a corner. You know they're desperate when they try one side, roll around the other with that darn flip, and then bs me while flames are all around their dodge animations... I hate lag) I will hit them when they try to charge me with my tempest. Doesn't always work, but it has an ok success rate.

And my build is the following, Wyrm.
    http://tinyurl.com/75h9ues
I don't feel like putting in the spells and equipment, but I now have

Left hand: flame, parrying dagger (I like this so much better because it literally doubles as a shield if I simply parry a bit late. Just tried it. Saved my butt 3 times when I was trying to blind parry. Didn't get one off... but I didn't fail on blocking an attack either)

    Right hand: g. halberd

Tattered cloth hood, tattered cloth chest, dark legs and gauntlets.

    ROFAP and Wolf's.

Oh, and I have done a few duels recently with tips. I think I just got extremely used to invading. Aggressiveness=quick kill and a quick humanity for The Followers. So I just did that a lot.. I either died or I got a kill. And they didn't ever punish me so hard in Blight... but now I'm about where I started heavy invading in bight. Which is good. I'm where I need to be to get better.

But watching I can see I have some of the problems that you have with BSes. Smetimes I cant understand how even with lag they were in a position to get me.

Anyway, when I get 120 more humanity donated to The Followers (i'm trying to get it all from just dueling in the burg....) I'll be SL 120 because she'll be my main gal for PvP

And Wyrm, I'm not a pure pyromancer. I'm 50/50. I like having lotsa endurance.

Ohhhh so you are SL 80... The only problem I see it's the very low Vit. For the G. Halberd you'll want to have at least 30 Vit. And you got 40 Dex....I see this is your Follower build that explains the Fire G. Halberd. Maybe try using a high scaling Dex weapon as backup (a katana maybe?).

It's gonna be a Flamurge at 120. Though, I'm afraid to have a flamburge without a shield... I like the distance of my halberd. Now that I actually remember how to use it...

and a Scythe scales B with dex, so I can use that I guess. Just not as cool looking Shrug
