It is the aura of the place, it gives off a faint blue and white glow. When you have any form of buff or surrounding spells, or even are a phantom in the caves, you will notice that the colours are disfigured with the blue content of lighting being their, while the normal light is not.
I use sunlight blade and I help people at the archives at times... trust me, you probably just did not notice it before, maybe because you were focusing on the game or the phase of colouring was just normal to you.

I love the coloring of the Crystal Caves. It seems to make everything look cooler.
