One Residence Key per Playthrough?

    One Residence Key per Playthrough?

    I chose the Master Key as my gift and bought the Residence Key when I entered Undead Burg. I knew you can use the Master Key to open the door that leads to the chest for the 3x Pine Resin. When I opened the door, my Residence Key was used instead of my Master Key.

    Is it basically impossible to free Griggs now because I can't seem to buy another Residence Key from the Undead Merchant.

    If I'm not mistaken the one residence key's description states it was a common lock type or some such and will work on more than one door. The key you bought will unlock him as well. In other words, your residence key wasn't consumed by using it.

    EDIT: Here's the description- "Key to a residence in the Undead Burg. Simple, sturdy design of the locks in the Burg keep out unwanted visitors.
    But this is a standard key in these parts, and will open several residences."

    That makes sense.

    I'm used to playing older games where keys "disintegrate" after use and figured that rule was applied here too. I got worried since I wanted to kill Griggs for his Slumbering Dragon Ring.

    If only artorias had used the same locksmith we could have saved 20k!



    Sadly I think that reflects early home security pretty accurately. Old locks had few tumblers/related mechanisms and complexity so the lack of this led to similar or close to identical locks in which keys could work in multiple places. This might explain why the simple "bolt on the inside" of the door came to such widespread use.

    I never understood games where your keys magically vanish after use. I've used my key on my home door for years, and it hasn't disintigrated yet
