I am trying to put the finishing touches on my first proper build (never actually planned out all my stats/equip beforehand) and i just have a quick question. Does upgrading a crossbow along the "divine" path actually work? Looking at the numbers on the build calculator, it seems to, but i seem to remember reading somewhere that it does not actually work. Or maybe I'm thinking of bows? Either way, I'd appreciate if anyone can clear this up, and i apologize if the answer is "easy to look up" but my only net access right now is my phone & it can be a pain sometimes!

Re: Divine Light Crossbow
There aren't any magic bolts, so the answer is no.

Re: Divine Light Crossbow
Tolvo has some Avatar competition...
Id go with +15 Light crossbow with heavy bolts. I plan on doing a X-bow and dagger nobly play through soon

Re: Divine Light Crossbow
Divine works fine, the problem is that there are no divine bolts.
You may have heard about "split damage" and having damage go through multiple resistances. Typically, you want your weapon to inflict only one kind of damage, so that it only goes through one resistance modifier.
That said, usually you want either a +15 crossbow or a +5 lightning crossbow. Both of those have corresponding bolts. Lightning is quite a bit more expensive in terms of souls though, but after you finish your build, souls won't be a problem. Lightning IS worth the extra cost, by the way.
If you're okay with using a bow, you can use a fire bow and use fire arrows as well.

Re: Divine Light Crossbow
No offense to Tolvo, but I THINK I had mine first (couple weeks now) but regardless Andrei is the man and is certainly deserving of at least 2 avatars!!!
I do recall reading the thread about split damages, I just wasn't entirely sure how it worked with crossbows & different types of bolts. Gonna go with the +15 with heavy bolts. I already know first-hand that thing is a beast...have disrupted many would-be humanity poppers with it before!!

Re: Divine Light Crossbow
Tolvo has had his ever since I joined (One day after you)
Butt you're right, Andrei can have two avatars. But what about the other Blacksmiths? We need a Giant Blacksmith Avatar! He has the best dialogue in the game, that deserves an honor. ("I Hath shiny shiny! I make weapons shiny!")

Re: Divine Light Crossbow
It i not the magic damage you should add; It is the divine multiplier in damage you should consider.
Skeletons will get 110% damage from weapon, however the magic damage will be removed. When a divine crossbow kills a skeleton, it stays dead.
That might be the plus for divine crossbow.

But thats only useful for New Londo and the Tomb/Cat.
Can X-bows be occult? That would be good for PvP because of the occult damage bonus against players.

Re: Divine Light Crossbow
Yep, checked Mugenmonkey, none of those, sadly. Occult should be available since it isn't an extension of Divine, its the opposite.

Re: Divine Light Crossbow
Occult damage bonus against player is not confirmed apparently. Idk
also I just tend to shy away from crossbows since I still dont understand the upgrades and associated problems.

That's just a rumor. I have tested Divine and Occult Claymore on a human player and they did almost the same damage. I think Divine did more. (2~5 damage difference).

Re: Divine Light Crossbow
I was thinking of asking a similar question, so instead of making a whole new thread I think I'll just ask it here.
For a crossbow, is a +5 Lightning going to be better in the average PVP situation than a +15 normal despite the split damage?
Also, I know that the Heavy Crossbow has the highest damage per individual bolt and the Avelyn has the highest damage if all three bolts hit, but do the extra bolts give Avelyn better poise break or are they the same?

Re: Divine Light Crossbow
Not really, no. Because having two elements attacking gets defended by two different armour ratios, and the lightning crossbow ONLY works with lightning damage, if you have lightning bolts. Lughtning blots is 700 ammo. Now times 700 by 999, and that is over half a million worth of souls

Re: Divine Light Crossbow
I'd stick with a normal X-bow andHeavy bolts.
All others are flawed or too situational.
^Tested on Mugenmonkey, Sniper X-bow does more than Heavy, bigger range too, Avelyn only does like 260, but that should be total right?
My Lighting Avelyn +4 with heavy bolts does about 160 in a full burst on a Siler knight, but a light x-bow+11 did 120 in a single hit.
