Greatshield of Artorias

Is this a good shield to use for this build and can I use my Bloodshield +10 to create this via the Blacksmith or should I remove the Magic ascencion of my Knight Shield back to +10 (or get it to +10) and use that rather? or just use a plain normal shield?

When upgrading this does it keep the other special elements of the previous shield or does it just upgrade to the plain starting Astorias shield?

I used Queelags soul (as I was angry after losing to O&S for the 2nd time expecting to get at least 30 000 souls to level up with as well as Moonlights/Iron Golem) what is the best Boss Soul weapon/shield etc to use and upgrade for my build?

I have Smough and Priscilla's souls at present..

oh and it says you cannot parry/riposte with this shield? Is that correct?

Um hum, you can't parry with any greatshield. If you would have killed Ornstein instead of Smough you could have de-leveled your lightning Spear to make Dragonslayer Spear. You have the stats to carry it. But oh well...

haha, yeah, I was just wanting to get passed it mate Also req str stat for the shield is 34 which might take me a while to get.. only on 24/25 I think!

Any info on the ascension of a normal plain shield like the Crest Shield/Grass Crest etc into the Greatshield?

You have to upgrade it to +10.

cheers bud, if you read my post correctly you would have noticed that I know that, I am asking whether or not you keep the special elements of certain shields like the Bloodshield when you ascend it to the Greatshield.. or does it completely negate all other effects and just become the plain Greatshield..

So I am asking if I should use just any old plain +10 shield to ascend to this as it might be a waste of my Bloodshield +10 if I use it when I can actually just use some crap old thing

GSoA - Immune to bleed build up and Poison build up when you are blocking.

Bleed went through for me at least.

To answer your question though, no. If you upgrade, say, teh grass crest shield, it will NOT still increase your stamina regen. You just have a normal GSoA no matter what shield you use.

It's been mentioned that it won't keep special properties already, but I really recommend the shield for PvE as you can tank any physical hit in the game, even into several NG+ I believe. (Havels is still better because it resists all other damage 80-90%.

Greatshields kind of suck for pvp though, using one is kind of asking for a backstab.

GSoA is great for a greatshield because it's half the weight of Havel's, and still blocks quite a bit. It doesn't have the best lightning resistance, but other than that, it's great. But, in PvP, I recommend using a normal shield or no shield, because just hiding behind a shield doesn't work. It's best to push your limits in every way possible. That will make you much better. Though, there are some great turtlers out there who know what they're doing, but I have no idea how they do it since I've only met a few. But turtling is usually a crutch for players that they just rely on too much.

I'd say go get yourself the Iron Round Shield if you want a great shield. Lots of people don't get that it isn't a great shield, it's a standard shield that can parry with the great shield's weapon bounce, meaning that 1h attacks bounce off and stagger they guy.

Otherwise, use Sif's and make a Great Sword of Artorias. Or just consume it or whatever. Also try out the lifehunt scythe, pair it with the blood shield and bloodbite ring, then go swing happy! It's got a great AR and the bleed is absolutely EVIL if you can build it up.

I have leveled up my Scythe to a +2 Divine Scythe.. should I descend it back to +5 then upgrade it to +10 and use Soul of Priscilla for the Blood Scythe? I have her soul and a +10 Bloodshield.. Need to get Titanate Chunks though.. only have 1.. I read that the Sentinels outside O&S (inside the Church) drop them (100%) is that correct?

No those sentinels either don't or rarely drop chunks. I've never gotten one from them. The best place to get chunks is the lower part of New Londo after lowering the water. The Dark Wraiths down there have a good drop rate for chunks and a super small teeny tiny chance to drop a slab. So get 410 item discovery and head down there!

ok cheers, I appreciate your response and help mate! I just tried it a couple of times.. nothing.. so decided to take my Divine Scythe back to +5 then upped it to +10 and use Priscilla's soul to make the Lifehunt Scythe and upped it to +1

heading blind into catacombs next.. I used my +5 Divine Uchigatana on the ones in the graveyard, made easy meals out of them.. The small ones spawn again, did not see a big one.. I thought they did not spawn if you killed them using Divine weapons.. anyway

Dont think I am ready for ToG yet though.. is there anything special in the Catacombs that I can get?? easy to farm items? Can I warp to a bonfire once I activated it or does it not show on the Warp function? not sure if I should go there now and waste my time having to do it all again for the ToG at a later stage or not..

1) I can upgrade my Bloodshield from +10 to a Lightning Shield.. any good in that at all? I have a +4 Magic Knight Shield and it pretty much does nothing imbueing shields with anything elemental/magical.. seems the best is just to get it to +15 after the Large Ember etc..

Elementary upgrades on shields take away the improved stability and add elemental defense, not worth it. Just carry different shields for different defenses I.e. BK shield for fire and crest shield for magic.

Not much point in doing the catacombs if you're not gonna do ToG after. Go do Demon's Ruins and Lost Izaalith first. You'll want the sunlight maggot before you go into ToG.
