    Anyways, after reading this, I decided to try it out. I am using a dex/int build this week, after all.

    I uhh, I don't get it. I've fought many of this swords before, and though they are great at stun locking, I don't see it as the best. Hell, I was having a massive hard time winning with it, but that is probably due to my inexperience with it.

    What i did notice is that it gives you this nasty little hobby to be very aggressive so you can stun lock with it, thus getting my arse parried all night haha.

    I do love the way the sword looks, so I will use it a few more days, see if I can find my groove with it, and actually play smart with it.

    i really like the winged spear, i dont think ive seen anyone use it besides myself. well i probably ran into a few people,but i cant recall one recently. i can agree with you rant about the phantom hits, more so with the demon spear,SKS,and DSS. their reach is just so far that its very easy for lag to cause you to take a hit when it doesnt seem like you should. the only spears i like are the winged spear and partizan. honestly though the whole phantom hit thing applys to a lot of weapons(zwei forward rollR1,Balder ss R2,washing pole back rollR1, ext) it mainly pisses me off with the DSS and Demon spear when people 2h and just spam r1. also how you can get hit while circling for a bs despite it obviously not hitting you, same applys to bows(how does an arrow go immediately to your left or right when you are aiming in front of you lol) it sucks cause backstabs are basically the weakness to those weapons and they pretty much are 10x more powerful due to that.

    yeah, any weapon with a thrust attack+lag=rediculous, and if you go up against someone that knows how to use them it is almost imposible to win, it pisses me off so much how lag affects pvp so much but what are you gonna do

    Guys, we get it, pseudo zen bs, the user is all important, blah blah blah blah blah. The OP cites mechanical reasons for the mlgs being "best" so respond with mechanical reasons something else is better.

    Doesn't matter wether or not you are good with it either, swing speed, dead angle potential, reach, damage, stamina used per swing, those are the kind of things that are important to consider here.

    It
    has been said that a split AR is worse than a single AR. Basically
    elemental is worse than standard at certain levels. I understand this.

    It
    is also common knowledge that there is less defense against elemental
    attack than physical attack across the board. Less shields and less
    armor have adequate elemental defense as apposed to physical def. I also
    get this.

    It is also in our Dark Souls text books (you did get
    one right?) that S rank is the highest and therefore best rank to scale
    with. Got ya here too.

    With these things being said, and the fact
    that practically no one carries great magic barrier on hand, would it
    be fitting to declare that with not only S scaling BUT also a PURE magic
    AR which is high, that the MLGS with its "anti runner" magic fling is
    in fact the best weapon in this game?

    Can someone give me reasons they disagree in this format? Saying "Being skilled" is the best weapon is not what this thread is about lol. Which I would debate as false anyway.

    Give us REASONS like someone said, mechanics, scaling, special features, perks that make it best.

    for example, Dragon Tooth has an insane AR and could be argued as better if one is great at parrys. It also raises magic defense. These are REASONS

    and working to change my sig, so dont worry about that

    Just personal experience but +15 claymore buffed with darkmoon/sunlight is the strongest for its thrust attack, I keep the mlgs in 2nd slot for Bs fishers cause its 2h run makes a near 360 slash

    Mechanical reasonings why the MLGS is not the best...
    Claymore has a powerful R2 that does not drain durability.
    It can be buffed to deal greater magical damage than the MLGS.
    STR unless you intend to use spells aswell is a superior scaling stat due to the 1.5 multiplier when 2 handing
    and that is just comparing it to a similar weapon...

    Let's not forget it swings faster then other greatswords.
    It was always my opinion mages had the best weapons: What with the moonlight butterfly horn, velka's rapier, and moonlight greatsword all having the higher damage per hit of their respective weapon classes.

    With it's annoying running R1, breaking 60 Poise and dungload of annoying spells to back it up, not to mention it's own ranged attacks, yeah the weapon is good. Not the best though. As good as it may be, it still relies on it's user. I know that my k/d goes significanly up when I use it. It's strong, versatile and very easy to use. Removing it's infinite stunlock (on 2h at least) didn't hurt the weapon much.

    I've started to hate MLGS because it has one nasty feature no other GS has (no, not it's R2s). It's that when someone 2H R1 on me and I roll away, that goddamned thing still hits me each and every time, even though I clearly rolled away. Not only that, it always its me as I exit my roll, so it gets counter damage on me as well. On my screen, it looks like I got hit by it from impossible distance + it does around 700 as well.
    I've started to pack over 60 Poise on my main and just tank bs the dung out of every MLGS user now.

    A lot of you seem to be calling for Halberds in there as top weapons, but I must say that I probably never met a decent polearm user then.
    Gargoyle Halberd....don't remember fighting it in past three months.
    Scythe...same as above.
    BKH...yeah I see thise sometimes, but nothing special, just easy to bs and parry.
    Halberd...very annoying to fight, because people tend to spam it's 2H R1 and it does some serious damage and stagger like a GS.
    Catch Pole? Giant Halberd? Lucerne? Never saw those. Ever.

    I think that SKS is the best weapon. You won't defeat a good SKS user no matter what, however it relies more on user's skill than MLGS.

    Rapier +15 has higher Criticals that DST, but Chaos Rapier is a lot weaker than both of those. Where did this come from?

    Sentiel and Rynn each get 200 points for actually answering the question in the correct format.

    Also, I use the chaos rapier because its crit dmg is higher than that of the dark silver tracer at 40 dex. Now, I don't take the build past 12 dex, so a rapier +15 would be quite weak and even the 40 dex crystal rapier riposte barely out damages the chaos version.

    If the MLGS had off hand parry I SWEAR TO GOD that's all I would use with the chaos rapier.

    +15 rapier w/o buffs and 40 dex does nearly the same crit damage a chaos rapier does. You need to crit though; the pokes aren't that great.

    Not sure if this has already been said, but I would say the most efficient weapons are Balder side sword and uchi. Both are light, and half decent damage when high dex, and can be buffed. And better still, both are a perfect side arm to any build when made elemental. Much like Lord and his chaos rapier...

    But Lord is a scrub Well What is it =P

    My favorite weapon in game is moonlight butterfly horn, not just because it looks the best, but because it weighs like 4 (or5?) and only requires one stat lvled up (unlike murakumo and BK weps with their wasted STR/DEX reqs) Making it a great side arm to a mage (because I spam DEM spells like a $2 astora royalty workin the streets)

    Also I dunno if great scythe has been mentioned here? But 5 weight for something with massive sweeping attacks, bleed, best dead angles in the game, capable of stunlock and again, low stat requirements (for elemental) is amazing! Not to mention one of the hardest hitting dex weapons, you can throw a buff on that baby and rip someone a new one in like 3 hits max!

    Alright, if you don't have Dex for it, then yes, Chaos will do the most damage on Crits.

    I got both Chaos+5 and +15 on 45 build and Chaos does roughly 100-150 less in most cases. That's not nearly the same. Nearly the same is Bandit's Dagger and Estoc, this is big difference.
    True, it's the highest Crit weapon if you have only base stats and it's pokes suck to high hell.
