Dark Souls latest patch for Ps3

Hi everyone, I am new here and have done a lot of Googling on this subject and cannot find an answer..

I seem to have an earlier patch where the Giant Blacksmith does not have any titanite for sale, I spent a long time gaining souls for this and need to get the newer patch...

If it is possible I would like to download the patch via my pc and then copy it to my flash and install that way... (if its even possible) otherwise I will have to plug my internet in at home and could someone please explain how its done and how big the file potentially is..

also added to it while I am here:

1) swords like the Black Knight Sword and Zweihander, are you ever capable of swinging them normally (not having them heave back up over your shoulder etc)
2) I have a +5 Magic Knights shield, what does the magic do addition do to a shield and I also have a +2 Magic Utichinaga (sp) who takes the most damage from Magic weapons?
3) Is the Occult Club a good weapon to use vs Simough and Ornstein (I have it +1 at the moment)
4) Is the update save compatible I hope??

I cant answer your question about the patch but i can on the others.

1: sounds to me if you get that heave back on the shoulder thingy that you dont got enough str to use it.
2: the magic enchant on shields gives the shield extra magic resistance. not sure who takes most dmg from magic weapons though.
3: occult club aint that good imo for O&S i would use the crystal halberd you find in anor londo or a weapon that fits with your build.
4: no answer here sry

I dont know if you can copy it over flash drive. But yes if you go frokm version 1.00 to version 1.05 your saves are compatible. I did that.

1: Some of the bigger swords have a little stagger no matter your str, its just part of their moveset.

hey bud, thanks for the reply, yeah really struggling with this damn patch.. Need some Twinkling Titanate for my weapon upgrades/armour as well! have like 80k


1) I do have the required dex and strength to use them, one of the only things I am still a bit unsure on is the equip burden etc.. I have leveled up in Endurance hopefully enabling my equipment load to be better which will allow me to wield these type of swords better (one handed even) as I meet the actual pre-req's for them to be use in the first place, can someone confirm this?

2) lol, my magic res on the Knights shield is 20.00 (or 30.00) its pathetic! Takes 100 physical which is cool though, I got the Bloodshield in the Painted world and have upgraded that to +5 as the resistances are pretty damn good when coupled with certain rings etc.. Will ascend that as well (when I can buy titanate) I have other shields but dont have req str for them yet.. using Blood/Knights/Spider/Dragon Crest etc depending on where I am playing in or against

3) I have it and I can use it effectively.. Does this weapon prevent Ornstein/Simough from doing their moves like (i.e: cancel their attacks if you hit them just before) like the Zweihander does?

cheers mate, is this done only through my PS3?? Do I need my PSN as I have never ever signed up, dont play online games! Do you perhaps know how big the update is or not as Bandwidth is expensive in South Africa and the line speeds are not that great..

I dont think the club will stagger them mainly because its such a small weapon, same with straightswords. maybe if you get ALOT of hits on them it will but im not sure on that since i only use that club to downgrade it to a +5 divine for the catacombs . Also i think O is weak to fire and S is weak to lightning so if you got some resins try to use those on a buffable weapon

1) If you have the required stats whatever it looks like is how its meant to be used.
2) I too like the bloodhsiel and use it a lot.

I think all the patches (you have to get them all together) are around 11.1 MB so they arent too mcuh. I dont know if you need a PSN account but you have to download them through PSN as far as I know. Sorry i cant remember more.

1) ok cool, glad to have cleared that up, so no matter how good the equip load is my player will always swing the Black Knights sword slowly and other larger swords

2) For Ornstein I dont have many good fire weapons, I was a wanderer now am a part pyro as well (have not upgraded pyro flame yet though) also Dragon Covenent (tried to use my Dragonhead to inflict fire damage once, barely worked though) I watched a vid on Youtube and that Zweihander looks really useful as it staggered all of their attacks which made the fight so much easier..) I use the Silver Knight Sword (which has lightning damage read that it was a mistake and has since been removed in the latest (future) patch) and a +3 Lightning Spear dealing about 264 damage a shot, not sure what to use for Ornstein though, maybe the Black Knight sword, using R2 does quite a bit of damage and pushes (floors) some demons!

Look into upgrading your pyro flame and getting some good pyromancy spells. They really help. That will allow you to take down ornstin pretty quick.

yeah that was my plan, can't upgrade the Pyro flame as I am in Anor Londo.. I have Great Chaos Fireball (4 uses) and a new one from the Painted World (Cant remember its name though)

So I am limited at the moment.. wanting to upgrade my weapons though before I fought them (that was the plan until I go to the Giant and he only sold arrows/giant armour and giant axe/halbred)

So searched on my phone and found out its got to do with the patch

Any other useful tips on fighting Ors & Sim?

If you turn human you can summon Solaire to help you out. hes on the middle of the stairs on the blacksmith side. If you have the eagle shield use it! The deflection and stability will save you. And thats all i got. I hate O&S, hardest boss for me.

yeah cheers, I know that one mate, I died the first time around using Solaire... so going to try and learn how to beat them as many times as it takes until I feel that I need to waste 2 humanities at the bonfire just want the damn LordVessel so I can travel..

They certainly made the reward worth beating them.

1) Can anyone confirm whether or not the Crystal Halbred staggers Ornstein & Smough and or other characters?

2) Can you parry & riposte Ornstein's (dont think you can with Smough) attacks?

3) Will the Black Knight Sword drop Ornstein when using R2 thrust?

1) I'm pretty sure every weapon (maybe not the REALLY weak ones like daggers) will stagger at some point since I can stagger both Orntein and Smough bu just using an Iaito.

2) As far as I'm aware you can't parry Ornstein, but I've never tried it so if you're having trouble, you can test it.

3) It might be able to drop the smaller version of Ornstein but I highly doubt it will drop him once he goes super Ornstein

can anyone assist me in downloading the latest patch for Dark Souls? I have tried setting up my laptop and USB modem to no avail over the weekend and really starting to get a tad pissed off!

For staggering them, your best bet would be the Zweihander. That thing will stagger them in the least number of hits (maybe as few as 1), the only downside is the swing time.

which patch is the best?? Some say that the newer patch has messed up their game a lot, is this only due to the armour/weapon/pyro etc changes and a few PvP changes that have affected them.. the only thing I want is Twinkling Titanate from the Giant Merchant..

The newer patch also has more souls & shards dropped by certain creatures which makes it easier..

not sure if I should waste my time and energy....

two items got hit hard by the patches, the antiquated skirt (used to have a max of straight 50's for defense, but then everyone ran around in dresses:P and the crystal ring shield made from the moonlight butterflys soul, (its special techniuqe lost alot of damage but its a shield you can't parry with with low physical defense soo not to big of an issue. since people used it only for the attack) other than that the titanite drops added in the patches help, and the ability to buy twinkling titanite is incredibly useful, all in all go with the patch, oh another thing the patch fixed was a glitch that allowed a user to get nearly infinite souls, that might be what some people were complaining about. most other weapons got a slight change to scaling or magic adjust in the case of pyro and sorcery, not too big of a deal.

awesome the only farming I have done is on the Phalanx in Painted World, I have heard about that but never looked how to do it.. not interested..

I tried for 3 hours again last night, gave up and spent my souls on levelling up and the Stone to open the shortcut in Darkroot (damn those fog warrior guys are hard to hit) any tips? is this where Sif is??

After 3 attempts I beat O&S alone, no NPC help, nothing, was super chuffed with myself.. 1st time got cornered and died, 2nd time beat Ornstein but got nailed by Smough with that bum shock then did it again and got quite close after the swings and behind and hit him several times with the Crystal Halbred +3, rinse and repeat (did use all 10 +2 estus flasks, 1 twin humanity and a single one lol but had lots to spare...

Went and got my other two firekeeper souls as well so upgraded to +4 now..

need some advice/tips:

1) Where to next? I have completed: Berg/Depths/Anor Londo/Blightown/Darkroot Basin/Darkroot Garden (only half) Ash Lake/The Great Hollow/Painted World..

I think maybe the Catacombs? I have updgraded a Scythe and Uchitanaga to Divine +3 exclusively for this area (will these work efficiently down there?) which is a good shield/ring/weapon to have? Or New Londo Ruins?

Still want to take on the Wyverns in the Valley, I have taken out the Undead Dragon that is guarding the crest & astoria weapon (which I only got just before Anor Londo)

Any tips useful items I can get on a few suicide runs from here now? Any area's that I should go to or things I should do? kill NPC's etc?

Think I will try update the game when on new game + only..

Anyway to try and get Twinkling titanate? Any rare drops?? will farm for hours if so..

I have decided to go and get a few things I did not get in Anor Londo (after doing a bit of grinding for Shards & Humanity) and then going into the Dukes Archives (which I assume is that entrance past the forest to the right that was closed by the yellow light)

Any tips on this area? any good items to get before heading off down to the Dukes Archives?

oh my i forgot about the fog ring, with the patch you can target people who use it, there just hard to see but the auto target system works on them now... as for dukes, magic defense is useful, also kill the channelers when ever you see them because when they buff the other enemies they can one shot people with low life.

I am not sure what magic does to shields, someone said it increases magic resistance (must check that out on the full page, not just the shield as it does not affect the Shields resistance to magic)

1) will divine weapons work anywhere else besides the catacombs? What weapon type do you need in order to kill the Ghosts in New Londo Ruins?
2) I am mainly using the Lightning Spear +3 dealing about 268 damage per normal shot (R1) about 628 when parried and riposte and about 315 or so when using lunge attack R2, Crystal Halbred is dealing nice damage too, I have a Dark Knight Sword +2 but does not deal that much damage, is there any other sword that does good damage? I have the Zweihander +5 (normal) but never use it as its too slow (but I am upgrading it as I go along for later in the game)

3) is there any highly recomended Armour for my build that I should have by now and that I can get quickly? or weapons etc... help/suggestions would be appreciated
