    The Witcher Empty The Witcher

Post by SlakeMoth Thu Jun 07, 2012 5:08 am

I only started playing this last night, so this isn't meant to be a review because I haven't got my head round all the aspects of this game yet. At the moment it looks like it's going to be a time sink though.

The tutorial is worth enduring, although it's pretty long and somewhat baffling. However, what little I did get my head round proved pretty useful when the game started proper. One thing though, if you quit the tutorial before it ends, you'll have to start it again because you can't save manually at this point.

The first part is linear, almost a walk through but it is useful because you learn to put whatever you've gleaned from the tutorial into practice, which, in my case, wasn't much but there are plenty of pointers and hints to keep going. I'm currently nearing the end of this and looking forward to being let off the leash as it were.

The combat is really satisfying. The controls are very responsive and your guy never lets up, automatically setting about the next opponent after you've downed the last. It's not all physical either because there are various runes you can cast on the run to help things along.

As I said, this isn't meant to be a review because it's early days yet but thus far I'm looking forward to playing this game a lot.

I like the witcher series. The first was fun and the second definetily improved upon it. However the thing I always felt was lacking was consequence. For a game that features so heavily with moral choices there never felt like there was enough impact to come from them.

I've only just started the game so I can't comment on that but this is where a lot of RPG's fall down in my opinion. Like in Skyrim, when you get to be head honcho of this or that organisation but NPC's still treat you like you crawled out from under a rock. This is a different kind of consequence of course but just as irritating.
