I have been playing a while with the Hand Axe and I must say it's awesome when used for PvP. The HA has about ~300 AR with +30 Str, it's weak, but it shines when used with a buff. With Sunlight Blade, I'm doing about 300~400 damage per chop on SL 120.

Almost everyone uses Dex weapons because of the DWGR invincibility frames and lag. These weapons usually connect because of their speed. The HA is the fastest Str weapon in the game. If used with a shield, it becomes a scary and unpredictable weapon. I do not recommend using this weapon without a powerful secondary one. Once the buff runs out, the HA does about 150 damage. So this weapon is perfect for hybrid builds that use unique unbuffable weapons such as Grant, MLGS, DSS and others. Pure Str builds could benefit too when used as a finisher weapon, just make sure your opponent has low HP and chop them off!!!

I forgot to add. The HA can't break 21 poise when 2 handed, so don't try stunlocking with it. Also I did some poise tests with the MLGS and it doesn't break 53 poise.

I really like the speed and weight of it.
And as you said, it is fantastic with a buff.

Wait, so the hand axe has a lower poise break then the other axes?

Yes. It needed 3 hits to break 40 poise :/ .

Huh, so there goes the tables calculated. Now we will need to know the poise break of every weapon...

We need to test this. And all the other weapons too silly. Just to be sure about the poise breakpoint.

Only Wyrm would use a HA and very well I might add lol...just when I thought I had the parry timing down on most weapons you gotta go use a bloody HA and mess me up!

I guess at least you taught me the parry timing by using it so that's a bonus...strange how I could parry it when you used gold pine resin and not SLB lol....gulp that SLB hurts when you miss parrys!!!

its an amazing option for low lvl mages or any low lvl build for that matter. i used it quite a bit for my sl3 sorcerer playthrough. http://tinyurl.com/7dwx6nt it was not the best set up i could use by far, but i looked pretty  and it was challenging. for mages doing a low lvl run or even just a starting weapon, if you get lucky and manage to get a jagged ghost blade drop you are set. its easy to get enough twinkling tinite to upgrade it too. its not good to rely on getting the drop though cause you can very easily luck out and not get it. hand axe is a good option to use along with jagged ghost blade and as your main weapon until you can get a jagged ghost blade.

kinda off topic i guess cause im talking about low lvl pve, but i did win a few fights with this set up in pvp(it was a little different, more poise). i have used the hand axe on higher lvl builds though, and it does well. its much faster then any other axe and does decent dmg, especially when buffed as you mentioned. i had a +15 hand axe for the sl3 playthrough cause i didnt even need slabs for anything so i would often use that and buff it with great magic weapon. it was slightly better then the chaos hand axe but not much do to the lack of scaling obviously.

this is what i used pretty much from the start of the game before i had access to that other gear. http://tinyurl.com/7eoedqc the jagged ghost blade made the start of the game sooooo much easier. dusks crown and catalyst are obviously the first things you go for when doing a starting lvl mage playthrough though.

Wait, +15 was better than chaos 0.o GMW was better than the fire damage? because they put out the same amount of physical... with 10 humanity chaos should be better.

it depends on the enemy. your right though idk why i said it was better. they are pretty close, chaos is better but not much. i think i just mixed that up when i was typing. at the start of the game when you dont have the ability to make a +15 or chaos weapon,a raw+5 and magic weapon is the best option. if you are aware of where everything is and dont mind doing the catacombs/blighttown run it is insanely easy to get fire/chaos weapons fairly early on though. but raw+5 hand axe and magic weapon is a good combo to use against quelagg to get the chaos ember. i think what i meant to say is that +15 hand axe and great magic weapon is better then magic+10 or enchanted+5 at that sl.

Buffing is always better than the enchanted path (this depresses me so much)

It’s because buffing only stays for a short while, while the enchanted is always as strong. This doesn’t mean much in PvP though. Since most fights will be over before the buff runs out.
