anyone here seen "kore wa zombie desuka"' (translates to: is this a zombie?" ) rather funny though i can only find subbed versions currently. also... who here has seen higurashi no naku koro ni. the questions arc scarred me for life.... back to more pleasant topics Nausica by studio ghibli is one of my favorite anime movies! also you guys may want to look into a series called shura no toki, its pretty good until the last disc or so when things get confusing. OHH! the samurai 7 anime is awesome, watch it!

Lets just say every studio ghibli movie to save time.

Dubs aren't bad all the time, cowboy bebop's actually superior to it's Japanese counterpart.

As for manga vs anime, it's 2 different ways to tell a story, but generally the manga holds the story together better since it's just the mangaka making it. Anime only shows and ovas are great though, and some based of light novels do REALLY well (Haruhi and spice and wolf etcetc)

Some of these are a bit lacklustre for a compilation list.. I mean, D.gray-man? The Jump Trinity? Gundam and the endless sequels... :| Just because something is popular doesn't mean it is good.

Anyways, I'll contribute a few you havent got. Mirai Nikki (or Future Diary if you need english titles), Monster, Aoi Bungaku

Also just to say, but you've got a duplicate in there, Rurouni Kenshin and Samurai X are the same thing.

Can't go wrong with the classics. Rurouni Kenshin and Gundam, particularly Unicorn and Wing. Seed is decent, as well as 00.

    ...okay let me see..

D.Gray-Man has a good basic idea, and has potential, I like the whole Innocence idea and the God vs. Noah scenario. The fights are done pretty well too, they're unique in style and some are fairly memorable.

However, where the series falls down is the story. It's incoherent and messy. As a weekly you could understand the way it was developed into a basic simple story by simple story form in small arcs. However with the transition to monthly issue and change in story emphasis due to the format caused the series to lose it's way. this was because the story can't be used as a fall back, it's weak at best.

The use of the 14th as an idea is developing, however in the same way due to the art being confusing and non-memorable story you can lose your way. Thing is when I compare the series to monthly's which I thought were excellent such as FMA, it really shows it's inferiority.

Also, referring to rurouni kenshin, an anime that ran in the late 90s as a classic, also gundam as a whole lot to me is overrated and stretched too far. (as the mecha genre in general is, the only one I actually enjoyed was Pluto which isn't really mecha)

I loved d grey man. I watched it in a row. All i know is that it was slow at first, then picked up. And thats where it REALLY showed its awesomeness. *shrug* i liked it. I also liked a "boring" war movie my family and i watched monday. I was the only one.

Ah, I think I shouldn't have used the term "classic" in the classical sense (heh).

What I meant was that both animes left a mark in the history of japanese animation; Rurouni Kenshin was different from the norm thanks to the characteristics of the protagonist (an adult male) and Gundam made the whole Real Robot genre famous.

Well, yeah. Universal Century actually has a lot of sequels. silly

And to be totally honest, the "Real Robot" vibe of Gundam falls apart when Plot Armour gets on every Mobile Suit a protagonist uses, or how they manage to make sound travel is space. (Yeah, I got tarnished by Dead Space, what of it. silly)

Yeah I know UC has a lot of sequels (And I love it so~) but I was wondering if he meant the other universes as well. Because Cosmic Era's only good part is Stargazer.

Plotkai bothers me with most modern anime. That and the increasing amount of moe and 'slice of life' anime.

    Vampire Hunter D
    Ninja Scroll
    ... and of course..
    AKIRA!!!!

'Highlander: The Search for Vengeance' was pretty good actually if you like the Highlander franchise, which I do (in places at least, some of it is awful but the idea is brilliant).

I love how the Japanese love to make use of Spanish and English in nerve-wracking ways (case in point: Bleach).

It becomes just plain funny sometimes. silly

About the sequels; yeah, Stargazer may be the only good one, but that doesn't mean there aren't any other sequels. In my opinion, Seed was decent as an introduction point to the series.
    Now, Seed Destiny...

There's one anime movie I saw that I can't remember the name of that was pretty good... It was a while ago though that I saw it, and all I remember was a castle with a bunch of lepers in it... And then there was something about darkness spreading from some life source area... It was pretty good though, I just really wish I remembered what it was called :|

I think that's Princess Mononoke, which is my favorite movie of all time.

Speaking of movies I don't remember, there was one I watched ages ago about some strange reincarnation train and at the end a baby peed into the protagonist's face 'coz the prot' thought it was the reincarnation of his true love. Or something.

Yeah, that sounded smoother in my head.
