invasions vs duels
I feel like we are losing the sight of invasions... when i first got the game it was all about win no matter what against invaders and as invaders do anything to win... this brought upon alot of crazy moments and longer fights as well as some unpredictable and funny moments... my first that i can think of was getting invaded in sens fortress and while I was hiding in the corner the invader stands near a ledge and i run over and kick him off... now adays we are expected to treat all invasions like "duels"... no healing, no running, no funny tactics... I feel like if you wanted to duel then join the dragon covanent or something... also this does not apply to forest gankers or anor londo gankers... they are just asses lol... what do you guys think? should all invasions be about honorable duels

Re: invasions vs duels
LOL @ your kick, very good one. Of course not all invasions are duels. Invasions are another story, no rules only get the kill and win. And they are fun that way. If you see your opponent bowing then that's another story, you should bow and have a good duel.

Re: invasions vs duels
And if all invasions were duels the Lifehunters would be a very boring covenant. When I invade the Painted World it's all or nothing, anything is accepted, my mission is to stop you get to Priscilla. And it's fun.

Re: invasions vs duels
If I invade and spawn in to the host standing at the spawn, I assume it's a duel. It also depends on where you invade. I doubt there are many people looking for duels in Tomb of the Giants.

Additionally, taking a breaking from dueling to actually invade people trying to PvP is a good way to breathe some life back into the game when it starts to get stale.

Re: invasions vs duels
I generally agree OP, except at 120 in the Burg. If you're 120 you should understand its where a lot of dueling goes on, even by invaders. Though the only real expected rules are stay in the arena and fight 1v1, everything else goes. So I think its a matter of context and player taste. If you're in a duel area then you should duel, in any other context treat the invader however you see fit.
Really though do as you will, the only thing that bugs me, i wish it didn't, are the fools who taunt after a fight. If you taunt I think you're kind of an idiot, everything else is fine.

Re: invasions vs duels
I "taunt" (ie joy and beckon, in that order) after I win 1v2s or 1v3s.
Anyways, no. Duelings fun, but I it takes way longer to get tired of randoms, where you never know the situation until it tries to bs you or pillars of fire suddenly spring from the ground at your feet.
The "pure" skill of dueling is too...... consistent, the thrill of the hunt is just glorious.

i have been having a lot more fun invading then i have been dueling lately. its just a shame most people have played through the game. i still do get a decent amount of invasions, but i have a feeling they will get fewer and far between. thank god for dlc, maybe more new players will get into the game.

Re: invasions vs duels
My thoughts are don't bow like you want a fair duel in a pvp hot spot then heal just because your losing!
This happened to me during the PW invasion event...I invade a guy who is waiting in the arena he bows and we fight...he loses bad and runs and puts his back to the wall and heals....I didn't chase him and let him heal several times...when he was about out of flasks I buffed DMB onto my MSGS and stunlocked him to death...just brutal I had hosts to kill what a waste of time...he must have been a NK Wyrm lol JK JK I did not run into any NK's during the event sadly!
If the host runs or makes no attempt to indicate a duel anything is fair game for both sides as far as I am concerned...but I think some people take it to serious with the hate mail...as a invader your job is to get there humanity or a SOV at all costs...and as a quester its your job to survive at all costs end of story....I think some people forget this!

Re: invasions vs duels
If we bow, sure. But if you keep invading me over and over again and I'm trying to duel a Forum member, I'm not going to bow back. And I'm going to do whatever I can to kill you. I won't bs when you bow, though. I WILL spam combustion while you try to parry me. Then I'll switch it up and use my halberd instead as soon as you try to keep your distance.
I kinda feel bad for that guy. He just wanted some good ol' pvp. And he kept getting me... hahahaha!
Though, it was kinda fun.

Re: invasions vs duels
I never get hate mail. So... no. Hahahaha!
Oh, and my Follower is a griefer in Quelaags domain. I have not gotten ONE hate mail. I have only sent one hate mail. I was waiting for a summon while I was on the forums. As soon as a summon came up, I explode in lava and flames. I guess I got invaded. The guy then dropped a prism stone on my corpse and ran round in circles.
I wasn't really ANGRY as I was extremely annoyed. I sent him "a**hole" without the *'s. That's it. He didn't message back.

There is no reason to wait for new players. Try hosting instead. If your invasions are slowing down, find an area you like and create a character for hosting. Maybe even a cos-play. From my perspective hosting is great fun because you can decide if you want to duel or not. If you're in the mood to duel choose a dueling spot and wait. If you want a free for all, then continue to pve when the invader shows and let him find you. As a host, (except for in the forest... and maybe some other area I haven't reached yet) I have only ever been invaded by one foe at a time. No worry of being ganked.

Re: invasions vs duels
It's funny, I'd actually forgotten it used to be a thrill to get invaded. When I get invaded now, it's just business as usual--ie: get over here so I can get your souls and keep going on my way! But there was a time when getting invaded was a thrill for me, and I was reminded of this yesterday:
I invaded in Lost Izalith. As usual, I approach the host slowly, and don't attack. He starts attacking with the Furysword (really, who uses that in LI lol!), so I figure he doesn't really know what he's doing. So I just dodge him for a while, getting an occasional notched whip attack into his shield to keep his blood pumping. He's having a really hard time juggling the mobs, and he's thinking I'm trying to kill him, so he's running around all over the place, aggroing every fire-jabba in the place! He starts throwing fireballs and keeps attacking me with his furysword, in between bouts of dodging the dozen jabbas on his tail, while I just keep egging him on and letting him whittle me down. Eventually he kills me... and a little while later I get a message: he apologized for throwing fireballs at me and said good fight! I replied: no offense, but I wasn't attacking you! And explained why I let him kill me. Then he thanked me for helping him level up. (He also sent me a friend invite, which I couldn't refuse, but I'll probably delete him in a couple days.)
It was just nice to be reminded that not everyone is at the point I am with the game, and that's why I try to provide a fun and thrilling experience for the people I invade, rather than just kill them.
As for dueling vs invading, my feelings are along those of others in the thread: dueling is great and all, but gets really repetitive. Invading is refreshing and fun for its own reasons.

Re: invasions vs duels
@ Joe I hear ya man we deal with repeat invades all the time down in the burg during FC...sometimes there has to be a guard at the arena entrance lol!
I invade for fun not to grief people If I invade someone once and kill them that's it...if I invade them again that day ill find them wave and BC out...nobody gets free hum or souls from me!
Lately I have been having lots of fun invading...full crimson set and dual DGM's ill find them then shrug a bunch of times...this usually results in a lot of BS's tho lol...I do catch a lot of people of guard tho when I drop the left DGM and parry them out...hehehe!!!

its funny a lot of the stuff people have posting about i have been doing the exact same thing. example:dual hand axes, pure pyro, invading more. idk i just found it to be a funny coincidence.as for finding a place you like, i have picked the entrance to lost izalith before firesage. i just so happen to cosplay as mildred(kinda) there. i love having stand offs with me at the bottom of the stairs and them trying to make their way down. occasionally running up to bs a phantom and then run back and let them heal . here's the build i use specifically for this. it is used in blighttown also. http://tinyurl.com/6p39ztk
edit:i will host if my toon is wearing something that looks cool. i just like invading and trying to mess with 2-3 phantoms. i get killed a lot if i get too **** with messing with them, but its fun to just slowly pick off each phantom. invading as a darkwraith is the most fun imo, as a host you know what to expect from your enemy, more so then invading.

The only way to truly understand is to go read the last ten or so pages of the Forum members picture thread in Off Topic. No explanation can do it justice, not to mention Bka1ne's impressive physique must be seen to be properly appreciated.

When I duel I bow - when I invade I do not. I will charge an enemy before they bow. Although if I bs an enemy whilst I invade I will back off and offer them a chance to heal - if they don't take that precious 3 seconds then they will die this is my arseholery invader build - ironically not my SGS build :L http://tinyurl.com/7b5g4t6
