    Ragdoll Death

Post by Eolan on Tue May 29, 2012 11:48 am

So im curious to know why Player characters dont ragdoll on death? I love every part of the design except how it handles player death. After a while the death animation seems a bit dull.

I'd like dismemberment etc * but at the very least a ragdolling of enemy player's would add a degree of oomph to the pvp.

Im wondering is it an issue to do with armor and weapon models? The basic hollows ragdoll quite well.

    Spoiler:
(just saw the latest G.o.T, and seeing a certain character cleaving his
way through enemies made me realise how awesome it'd be to lop off a
    hollows head)

There is some reason bosses, npcs, players and the large humanoids (black knights etc) disappear instead of ragdoll but I'm not sure what it is. Probably has to do with a desperate need to free up system resources since those models tend to be more detailed.

lol! Can you just imagine? Instead of the standard taunting we are used to by gankers, they would be ninja flipping on top of us and throwing us over ledges! Would break up the monotony a bit at least! lol!

Or you could satisfy your lust for revenge by cleaving them in two. happy

It does seem like a resource issue. If you think about how much glitching something like the moonlight butterfly spear would cause when ragdolled it'd probably crash the engine? happy

You've obviously never killed Andre then. You can rag-doll him for days.

You're right, it's probably hard to ragdoll the player due to all the different gear. Storyline wise, phantoms presumably wouldn't ragdoll anyway, and the darksign triggers for the player on death so no body. I'm still not bored of the pvp death animations, and I'm not sure I'd enjoy watching my ragdoll corpse get kicked around or thrown up in the air by creative invaders. big grin

I tell you what really got me thinking about it is max payne 3. Bizarre but stay with me.

I play all my games on the hardest setting especially a shooter like that, as i feel the realism helps me stay in it when im clumsily killed.

Max payne has frankly hilarious but grizzly death animations. To me the only consolation of me failing over and over again, is that i laugh at how grotesque a fate my clumsiness has cast on me. Ive felt this way about nearly all the games ive played. Dying comically is a really helpful endurance tool and one that dark souls kinda has but could go a step further.

I got stuck in mp3 last night and it was just funny watching myself hurtle down stairs and getting shot in my drunk confused face. At any moment in that game you can live up to the alcoholic washout its telling you you are.

I would do that thing where you get bodies stuck inside of you. And host in the forest. Invaders would just see this mass of corpses running at them with a black aura around him. I would be a fleshy version of Nito, first of the Dead! Tolvo, first of the Noodle Bodies!

"Oh you wanna come along for the ride buddy? ok happy"

Lord nito! with the bad clipping...

Wouldnt it be great if u could get a nito costume..?

I still can't believe how you can just kick around random large enemies with no effort.
