Why the Chaos Blade love?
I can understand the appeal of katanas, as they are right up there with greatsword in terms of OP'ness, but why does the Chaos Blade specifically get so much love? It drains your health and doesn't even provide all that big of a damage increase.
Anyone want to explain it to me?

THANK YOU, not to mention that other chaos weapon you can make better, *ahem* chaos greataxe *ahem*.Shkar wrote:I can understand the appeal of katanas, as they are right up there with greatsword in terms of OP'ness, but why does the Chaos Blade specifically get so much love? I mean, why do people think it's so awesome? It behaves almost exactly like a regular katana, the hp drain (though very slight, I admit) can add up to being about a whole attack or more in a decent length fight, and the damage increase is practically miniscule.

Re: Why the Chaos Blade love?
its a good weapon and i think the best non buffable dex weapon, better range that the other katanas not counting the washing pole and every hit deal about 400 damage which is pretty good for a non buff weapon and it looks awesome.
@E he was talking about the chaos blade not chaos weapons.

Re: Why the Chaos Blade love?
Strongest unbuffed Katana in game and i don't like buffs expecially for Fight club.
Slightly longer then Uchi and iaito.
Fastest build bleed up of every katana in the game (this goes over looked HUGELY)
looks the coolest
used to be original. and still is out side these forums.
need i go on?
for 20hp to add up to a decent attack.. lets say 200 damage (which is weak) that is 10 swings. who is going to out live 10 swings fron your blade?? now lets say you hit them for a miniscule amount of 150 damage (event though you hit MUCH harder) you did 1500 damage to them while only recieving 200.
and it doesn't drain life on BSs/Ripostes or shield blocks. though some times lag causes you to hit them but they take no damage. but i believe that still causes bleed build up. 20HP is so small it doesn't matter

I didn't realize it built up bleed faster, that actually explains it perfectly. I'm just tired of every other person using a katana, and 9/10 times it's the Chaos Blade.
Even in the forest, where level restrictions are basically gone, and teh Washing Pole becomes a (theoretically) better weapon with 40 STR/DEX.
It may just be me, or an XBOX thing, or something, but they take damage even if I block or they hit me while I am rolling. I have managed to "deal" over 200 damage to a few people just by rolling around near them, before they ever land a hit.

well yea for a 40/40 build Washing pole is king. my SL225 uses a washing pole cuz he has 40/40. it basically comes down to if you don't like buffing, its the best katana unless you go 40/40 str/dex
and honestly out side of PPG in fight club i have NEVER come across a Chaos Blade, the only katana i ever see is washing poles or Iaitos

I'll just chalk it up to another one of those console differences then. Admittedly part of my curiosity is the fact that a good portion of the videos online are people using katanas (typically Chaos Blade).

Re: Why the Chaos Blade love?
Katanas op? How do you figure? The only really strong part of katanas is bleed...dodge.
Chaos Blade is good but R2 is waaaaaay too slow for my tastes...i mean seriously? your gonna hold it over your head for 5 seconds and just stand there wide open??? This is why i cant use my chaos blade for pvp...pve is fun with it though.
Katanas are good but far from op.
The reason so many people use them is because they wanna use a sword thats..not 300 pounds(ok 10 whatever) and straight swords were pretty screwed imo except Balder Side Sword.
Not to mention they are the only swords that scale decently with dex....curved swords suck...well most people dont like them anyway.
oh yeah...and chaos blade looks cool

Re: Why the Chaos Blade love?
They're fast, light, do decent damage, have decent scaling, and cause good bleed damage. I would throw my name into the ring in saying they're OP. They're pretty much the bane of my current build. I'm relying mostly on my Havel's Shield which does nothing to prevent bleed. Rolling out of the bleed isn't always the easiest thing to do.

The bleed is certainly a small issue, in that you can't even block them for long, but the main issue is in their speed. They strike fast enough that they can stunlock even though the poise break isn't very high and it makes them impossible (I believe) to do a setup parry, practically forcing you to rely on prediction.
Also, it may just be an issue specific to me, but the dash attack is absurd. It doesn't hit too hard, but I am always getting hit from 2 or 3 weapon lengths away. I need to basically be on the opposite side of a room to not get hit by it.

Re: Why the Chaos Blade love?
lol well if you get stunlocked by katanas greatswords must be hell...i know they were for me when i went around with no poise...its best to have around 53 poise for pvp unless your really good at dodging.
as for the dash attack just side roll...you just gotta time it right use one for awhile and you will learn the window. You can also roll straight into them on the left side(their right) but again you have to time it right.

That's a good point too. I can't tell you how often I get nailed by katanas that seem to be nowhere near me. The CB and WP are notorious for it.

The stunlocking is really only an issue when I start off a stunlock with my Gravelord GS and they start spamming R1 (I typically have around 45 poise on that character.
The dash attack is just a pain because it's almost always when I'm letting my stamina regen and by all rights I should be safe, but I'm not...

If you don't understand what makes it so good, just use it for a while.
And if you see someone dodge in a moment that doesn't call for a dodge at all, like when you're fifteen feet away and not attacking, expect a charged run attack and parry it. I do it against scythes all the time.

@40 Dex it was hitting about 200 damage per swing. I still prefer my DMB Iaito, which deals about 400~500 damage per swing. I would use Chaos Blade + Power Within though...

Re: Why the Chaos Blade love?
I love my Chaos Blade +5, with 10 humanity it crushes my Iato +15 in damage and builds bleed faster. The fact the sword tries to kill me just makes PvP more exciting. More then once I've simultaneously killed my opponent and myself with the CB. I really only use it for PvP tho the CB did carry me through the 4 Kings on my first go at them, had no problem taking them out one at a time with it.
Just don't try and use the thing if you don't have humanity, with 0 it actually deals less damage then my Iato +15. It doesn't surpass the Iato until 4 humanity or so, then at 10 it totally out classes the Iato.
Tho I do wish it had the Iato's R2 but then it would probably be way OP. Thankfully the CB's 1H R2 is useful tho.

Iaito 2h R2 is over rated and one of the easiest moves to counter with a BS.
i just want the uchi/Washingpole one handed r2

Re: Why the Chaos Blade love?
I made this account for the sole purpose of posting on this topic and sharing my experiences with the Chaos Blade. It should be noted that I made a build specifically for the Chaos Blade.
I have 50 Vitality, MotM and RoFAP to off-set the damage taken from using this weapon. However, I have noticed that the damage taken is only ever noticeable if you get off a combo on your opponent, by which time they should be dead.
With a full Stamina bar, I get off eight swings. This is incredibly useful against turtlers, who upon being bled out (usually around 450-500 damage), panic and attempt to run away, which makes for an easy backstab.
I've found that about two hits from the CB will stagger most players. Another two or three hits can be procured before they recover from the lock, usually resulting in death.
