What makes an NPC tick? Empty What makes an NPC tick?

Post by Rynn Sun May 20, 2012 7:17 pm

I changed the title, since this thread turned into a thread for any fightable NPC.

Fun fact, as far as I can tell, all NPC's in this game are using stats we can obtain, however in some cases they also have buffs on we can't receive to such a powerful extent. For example, Mildred has Flash Sweat on, even though she never casts it, and Lautrec has Fall Control online. Jeremiah is -insanely- resistant to magic damage.

Well I'm starting to work on figuring out the exact stats of NPC's, including soul level and stat distribution. I'd love contribution to this list, as some NPC's are very far into the game, and so it's difficult to get quality time with their stats. I mention darkwraiths in the title, but we can do all the NPC's.

Mildred as a Darkwraith, and as a summon.
    http://tinyurl.com/bsejre5
    +5 cleaver
    Flash Sweat in effect.
    Kirk as a Darkwraith
    http://tinyurl.com/chjtu74
    +5 Sword, +5 shield.
I have observed that upon killing a phantom, he received a minor boost to his maximum HP. I concluded he has the evil eye ring from this.
    Jeremiah
    http://tinyurl.com/bwu26ne
    +15 Whip
    +14 Pyro Flame
Notably nearly invulnerable to magic. He has more magic defense then even possible with GMB. This is an enigma to me.

Any more, or any questions, are appreciated. I'd love help with this project.

I'm assuming your using souls dropped to get their level? You;ve got kirk as a 45 but his level changes between his 1st and second meeting. In one he drops 5000 souls and in the other I think he drops round 26000 souls.

I'm sorry if you see this as off topic, and I'm sorry this is not contributing at all...but..I just hade the thought that it's a bit strange they can invade you as a DW for example, Mildred, lvl 60, even if you are lvl 15...it really dosen't work like that with real players..you think they have a way to get around the system huh?silly

As I said, some of the encounters are so far into the game, I've not had quality time to spend with them. Kirks HP inbetween that first and second encounter doesn't change, and I've never let him hit me in the Demon Ruins and Izalith, so I'm unaware of what else he might have going for him... I'll have to look into it.

And yes, I think NPC darkwraiths don't care what level you are. Their soul value's are consistant, and they don't get stronger in NG+, nor give more souls.

The point of the NPC invaders was to give offline players someidea of what happens online. Its why you can summon Solaire at any level. Although Im pretty sure the summonable NPCs get astronger with each level. I think when Acidic tried to kill the bridge wyvern he used Solaire and Lautrec and they had stupidly high hp.

    Solaire has 1,900 HP.
    Lautrec has 1325 HP.

Solaire also has a *** of defense, I only can do 170 damage to him with a Demons Great Hammer. He has -way- more defense then I seem to be capable of getting him. I presume this is because he's only meant to be used as a summon, and not fought... so as a "powerful NPC" used to make fights easier, he had more defense then he is meant to.

It certainly does look like the Lady of Darkling buffs her weapon with a DMB.

Thanks for the info, I love facts like these. Demon's souls also had some special features for the black phantom npcs, Selen never ran out of mana etc.

Only Leeroy left as a black phantom in your list. Not sure if anything is special with him, don't even know which talisman he uses. I think he casts Soothing Sunlight to heal, not sure if he heals at all as an invader. Leeroy also has 3 humanity on him, Mildred has 8, Kirk and Jeremiah have none.

All I can think of atm is that Dusk wears the dusk crown ring, only 3-400 HP, but she's not an invader either.

^^The anor Londo Firekeeper has 5 casts of DMB, she probably hacked her savefile..

Even though none is a DW I'd like to see the stats of the "lesser" trainers like Petrus, Griggs, and Laurentius.

I'm pretty sure the Anor Londo Firekeeper, being essentially the spokesperson for the covenant, has multiple casts of DMB. I'll check her out in a bit. The non-darkwraiths are harder to figure out, since they drop static soul value's that I can't use a chart to deduce level from. (like the crestfallen warrior giving 1000 souls, despite having better stats then that.)

Doughguy, the NPC's you summon actually do get stronger from what I can tell, however when you fight them as a darkwraith, despite doing more damage, they have the same defense value/hp/soul drop.

Please note, unlike most NPC's, these stats become "warped" in NG+.

I made an error when submitting that. Those points in STR are meant to be in DEX.

Leeroy's Grant probably don't drain durability when he casts the two handed R2 attack.

Don't know if this project is still going on, or how helpful my information is, but I'll post it anyway (although it's not about a dw) big grin

I was fighting Solaire in the burg to see how far into the level he would follow me, and while we were climbing down the ladder to lower burg he kicked me and I caught on fire, so I guess he's wearing the orange charred ring as well.

Remember Jeremiah is based on a character in demons souls. His high magic resist could be a reference to that?
