This shall be our finest hour: Painted World Invasion

Post by DoughGuy on Sat May 19, 2012 3:41 am

"War is upon us my Knights"

    Date: 2nd of June
    Start time:
    12am UTC
    Duration: 24 hours

The Knights, after their victory over the Gravesworn, have turned their sites on the painted queen. They will be attacking in force, battling the Lifehunters on their own turf in an effort to kill the Corssbreed, Painted Queen Priscilla.
The lifehunters, witnessing their allies defeat, withdrew their forces along with many of the gravesworn, saving their lives. They retreated to the painted world where the call went out that war was coming.
The eventconsist of the knights spending all day co-oping and killing invaders while the lifehunters spend all day invading and gravelording. There will also be 3 FC rounds at the following times -
    12am-2am UTC Hosts DoughGuy, Wyrmhero1945
    9am-11am UTC Hosts DoughGuy, Forum_Pirate
    6pm-8pm UTC Hosts Forum_Pirate
The rules will be the painted world arena rules. In order to be summoned for the event knights place a white sign and lifehunters drop a re sing at the lifehunter meeting spot (see the lifehunterthread for its location).
If you can host and are a commander or council member put down your name and a time.

    Schedule
The firts 2 hours will be FC rounds. I will be hosting at
80 while Wyrm wil be hosting at 120. Sun will be hosting on xbox and
Viral will probably be hosting though at a SL of his choosing. Knights
dro pyour WSS hunters your RSS. Hosts it is up to you whether you host a
1 vs 1 match or a 2 vs 2 match. 2 points for each kill. The rules are
    the lifehunter arena rules.
The next 7 hours will be normal battle
time. Knights will be co-oping/getting invaded, hunters will be
invading and GLs will be infecting. Knights drop your summon sign
either at the bonfire or just after the shortcut door. GLs will be
dropping their sign wherever they are getting the most action and
hunters invade at either the bonfire or your normal area.
There has been a bit of argument about the knights honur code during the battle. SO I have decided the choice to follow our honour code is up to each knight individually. I personally will be following the code (unles i come up against forum or Wyrm) for the event.
Then the next FC will start. I will be hosting at 80 again and forum will take 120. Same as before.
    Then the next battle round.
Then FC again. Only have 1 host here so it will be up to forum what SL he hosts at.
    Then the last battle round.
If during the FC rounds you are at the wrong SL/not getting summoned continue with the battle round. This will ensure you arent sitting around for 2 hours doing nothing productive.
Xbox players have no hosts. Therefore instead they can eithr dro ptheir RSS to be summoned to fight (preferable) or just continue as normal. I suggest that GLs focus on summoning red signs since all of them will have their bos alive while some knights dont.

    Lore intro.
    Spoiler:
After killing Avrik and thus beheading the Gravesworn for a time being they were a spent force, unable to fight effectively. Yet Oscar knew that nothinbg is moe dangerous than a
trapped beast. rather than press one now, while his knight were tired he pulled back. The Gravesworn would not be a problem for a time and there were bigger fish to fry. This would also give his weaponsmiths time to forge divine weapons with the ember that Ser Isaac had retrieved allowing safer passage next time the knights delved into the tomb. With his victory new recruits came flooding to his castle and his force grew. He'd need them too, his next target was the painted world and the half breed Priscilla. With the gravesworn's defeat she had begun
marshalling a great force to take on the knights. Guarded by her merciless band of marauders, the elite lifehunters, from whose scythes a single cut could kill the half breed was a deadly target. But Oscar was not deterred. These evils would have to fall before Lordran was
safe and so they would. Gathering his allies he turned to his war council to begin planning the attack.

"In hearing of the Gravesworn's defeat at the hands of the knight Oscar, the Hand of Priscilla called the banners for war and began marshalling his forces in the Painted World, where the dominion of the Halfbreed was strongest. From the corners of Lordran many answered the call. Brave Knights and merciless hunters, the ferocious Half Breed
Dragons of Old, the Executioner Illyn Payne in the service of Nito, and many more from the those in service to the White Lady to those of the Dark Abyss. One by one they all came to see the lady of dragons will be done, answering the call of the Hand."

Excerpt from the Annals of Concurrent Events, as found in the Annex Library of the
Painted World, as written by the Hand's Master of the Annals (No NOT ME,
    well sort of).

    Failed negotiations
    Spoiler:
"Sir Oscar, Our lady wishes only to be left in peace, not to fight
foolish battles. Grant her request, let Her relm of Paint be or suffer
the full force of her Setinals wrath and invite your own destruction. I
detest needless bloodshed and would see you and your men live to see
another day. We wish only peace for our Lady, our lonely world. I warn
you, should you trespass into our relm, should my Queen fall, you and
your gods die, I swear it.

Etraiu the Warrior, Auriculae Hoarder, Member of the High Council of Ariamis"

Letter found on the desk of Knight Oscar

    "Death to the painted queen!"
Banner from the 3rd division of the Noble Knights from the Ariamis war

"The purge of evil from Lordran has no foolish battles. Your half breed dragon queen is an abomination that must be eliminated.
You already gather your forces for battle. Do not insult my intelligence with talks of peace."

Oscar II's response to Etraiu the Warrior, Auriculae Hoarder, Member of the High Council of Ariamis

    Hamme's Journal
    Spoiler:
" It was a sight to beholden when the serried ranks of the
Lifehunters turned out in force in the Painted World, a grand sight I
tell you. The hand himself was ever present with the council at his
back, the Auriculae Hoader Etraiu at his side, surveying the forces
assembled. Amidst the men I saw Illyn Payne, the Hand's executioner in
the service of Nito, also a mysterious egg headed sage, and many of the
tall Halfbreed Dragons bearing weapons made from the bones of thier
Ancestors. I swear when the Hand read aloud the letter, in response,
from the Knight Oscar the silence was deafening. Hands tightened on the
hilts of swords, soundless hisses of rage escaped thier lips, and the
Halfbreed hackles were raised in a feral manner. What followed could
only be described as a cacophany as the shouts of rage and roaring
drowned out the howling winds. It was then the Lady herself graced us
with her presence. She said nothing, not to the Hunters anyway, she
spoke only to the Hand, a soft voice floating on the winds. And Silence
    once again.

The Hand was quiet as he raised a banner. it
bore the heraldry of the Noble Knights, taken from them during the war
that had raged in the Tombs below Lordran. With deft moves the hand
launched the hard ashen wood, pennant and all into the air over the
cliffs of Priscilla's Sanctuary. It hung there suspended, the heraldry
perfectly unfurled, before it fell away, dissappearing from sight.

    The
Painted World echoed with roars of approval that day. Since then the
hammers of the smiths have been an ever present feature, and the
tramping of mailed boots a dirge to those who were about to die."

Excerpt from Hammen the Scale's Journal, A Record of my Studies into Ariamis.

"I was surprised when Valinthor and the other Halfbreeds called
me to thier quarters, a little nervous to if truth be told. Their
messanger had half scared me to death, as he woke me in the middle of a
fitful dream with a low and sonorous growl.Arrodach was present, his
back to the stone walled fireplace,a s was Ild'Nys admiring her scales
in the light, Laiirephadron was not to be seen, his Clawpack was away on
orders to watch the lower sections of the keep for intruders. They
spoke of many things to me, most of which I will never repeat to a
living soul for fear of their wrath, though they had me recount what I
knew of thier history. They seemed satified with what I knew, shared
thier pasts with me. Once over they made me promise to make a full
account of the HalfBreed histories so that others may know of thier
struggles. Here is what they told me...."

Excerpt from Hammen the Scale's Journal, A Record of my Studies into Ariamis.

"In the dim half light I scribble down the last findings that a great
deal of my life has been dedicated to uncovering. I found them. The
hunters of the Painted Lady. At last. It seems they had hidden
themselves within a Painting in Anor Londo, the city of the gods.
However upon arriving at the catedral in which the grand painting was
housed I found no passage into the world of Ariamis. Thus I resolved to
approach those who went to and from the strange scene. Of the few I saw I
found that none were as approachable as I had initially theorised.
Dragon Half breeds, Chaos Worshippers, Traitorous Knights, and more
besides. However there was one, a knight with a great white tower
emblazoned on his shield that seemed passive enough for my tastes.... I
was wrong on that account. the knight was just as dedicated to the
Painted Lady as the others. He bared his steel at me until I convinced
him of my intentions. He vowed to tell the Hand of Priscilla of my
studies and perhaps then allow me entrance to the strange world beyond
    the canvas..."

Excerpt from the Prologue of Hammen the Scale's Journal, A record of my Studies into Ariamis.

"Of the myriad creatures I saw in the Painted World none were more
sobering than the engorged hollows that filled the halls. Corrupted and
bloated these poor miserable creatures roamed the keeps in silence. I
had attempted to approach them but they always scattered before me. At
times like these its tiring being a scholar, so few wish to reveal thier
secrets or stories, though I resolve to persevere and to complete my
one hundred and first tome and to end my exile. It was until that
momment that I had onlt begin to imagine what the Painted Lady was like,
but in an instant she was there beside me. Radient, and this does not
do her justice, was all that I could do to describe her. Clad in white
robes and carrying a massive scythe she descended on the central
courtyard where I was slumped against the stone statue of the Maiden.
Her features refined and elegant, supple hands grasped the scythe to her
chest, though tenderly, her eyes belying a certain pity for the
scattering hollows. She was definately not human, I could safely say,
for in place of eyebrows she bore a row of scales, some of which
descended down her face. Her eyes were a deep amber, or so I though for I
could not look upon them, skin almost as pale as her snow white
hair.."Stay you inqueries good sir" she asked, her voice gentle. I could
not speak. Her prescence was divine, I simply nodded and bowed my
thanks. And then she was gone her quiet footsteps padding down the long
corridors.. In hind sight allowing her to leave without asking any
questions was amatuerish indeed, something I have not done since I was a
bumbling apprentice. Though I am not sure I have it in me to question
    such a lovely being."

Excerpt from Hammen the Scale's Journal, A Record of my Studies into Ariamis

    Farel Gharllen's Books
    Spoiler:
"It was a cool summers day when the rider arrived for me. I had
already made my decision. Oscar II himself had chosen me for my skills
and i would not disappoint the Knight, not after all he has done for
Astora. The following book and the books that follow it recount the
story of Oscar II and his Order of Noble Knights as they embarked on
their quest through Lordran. Their goal, to free Lordran from the
corruption that plagued it. The road was not easy, it was filled with
sadness and loss, but victory and hope. Though many of you know how
this ends i will not ruin it for you know. For in your reading you may
find your view of the events chnaged, some victories turn into losses,
and some losses ... into victories."

    Preface to
Farel Gharllen's "The war to retake Lordran - Part I"

"Oscar was never a loud man yet he was a vengeful, his spirit one of
divine retribution. But when he heard of the desecration of the bodies
in the tomb of giants yet to be retrieved, how their banner had been
stolen leaving the soldiers nameless his vengeance rose to the fore. He
remained locked in his war council for 3 days, having his meals brought
to him in his isolation. His anger focussed his mind and he devised a
plan that rivalled his assault on Carim's heretical labs. His men knew
this was no longer a war of simple justice. It had become a war of
    honour and personal vengeance."

Excerpt from Farel Gharllen's "The war to retake Lordran - Part II"

"It was a cold windy day when Osar bid Ser Isaac goodbye. The dual
leader of the Order took 10 of his best Sunlit Knights with him
    and
left for regions unknown. The 2 stood at the gate and shook hands and
clapped each other on the back, as good friends do, before he departed.
Isaac marched off in the direction of Blighttowm. Oscar stood at the
gates for a time afterwards, watching the steadily receding figure of
his friend. None of the council dared speak to me about his departure.
I believe he has gone on a quest of vital importance, one that could be
ruined by a careless tongue. The funny thing is, I swore that I saw
Oscar pass isaac something in that handshake, a small envelope, with a
    suspiciously ring shaped lump.
    "

    Isaac's return
    Spoiler:
"Men I come before you today to prepare you. You have all heard the tale of the sentinels and heard the foes they descriibed. You may also have seen Ser Isaac and his Sunlit Knights emerge from the painted world yesterday. We now have the proof we need. *Holds up the severed head of a crossbreed* The painted world is home to all the monstrosities the sentinels described and more. Outcasts and exiles, unfit for life in this world, banished to away, they live serving this painted queen. These horrors cannot be allowed to exist any longer. They are a blight upon this world, they are the reason the true gods were forced to flee their holy city. They are heretics and traitors one and all. When we march upon their world you will face horrid beasts like you have never seen. But you MUST stand STRONG if you want to return alive! You cannot falter, you cannot fail, because if you do all this is for nothing. We are the crusaders who will bring order and honouyr back to Lordran! The beasts are trapped in their world, surrounded. But nothing fights more ferociously than a cornered beast. We must be strong but we must be careful. In 3 weeks we march forth onto their world, be ready for that my men."

Oscar II's speech to his men after Isaac's return from his mission

    The Escape
    Spoiler:
"There was a loud bang, accompanied by shaking ground. Startled knights surged to their feet searching for the source to see a flaming tent and several charred bodies land among a group of tents, setting them alight. A second later the sound of clashing steel reverberated through the ancient hall as the woman captured earlier came into view, her strangly curved sword shining with the orange light of the fire she threw from her hand. At the same instant, a lone man, dressesd for war and wearing an oddly shaped golden crown, lept from the painting and killed several men with a swing of his enormous sword. The pair quickly fought their way towards each other through the dozen or so meters that
separated them, then stood back to back. Their mouths moves but what they said was lost in the din of the alarmed camp, but the woman nodded and circled behind the man, hands glowing. The man threw himself at the advancing soilders, the large swings momentarily preventing them from being overwhelmed. Without warning, he dove backwards and pillars of flame erupted from the ground killing anyone near and momentarily blinding those who looked upon them. When the fire and smoke cleared, both figures were gone, having taken advantage of the fire to enter the painting. The knights dared not pursue, they were not yet prepared for their assault on those who dwelled within and a disorganised charge would see them routed. They would have their chance at vengeance when they were ready."

Tale of the rescue and escape of Commander Hihime from the perspective of an un-named knight
Exerpt from The History of Ariamis

    Avrik's return
    Spoiler:
Today nothing to special, another one of those annoying knights dropped by. He asked me to forge him a flaming sword the likes of which nobody had ever seen before. Idiot! The sword he presented me with was pitiful. So I tells I do that not blade so crude could ever be handled by the likes of me and that he was wasting my time. So the guy tries to ask me about my helmet. You have to be firm with these fools and I sent him away without so much as a word.

..... Lords above and below! I think I just saw a ghost. Well I don't know if you'd call him a ghost. If it was who I thought it was thenhe must have gone through something horrible. He looked half finished, and then not even that. And the way he stared at me with those hollow eyes. If I had an opinion on whats going to happen....well I don't even want to think about it."

Diary of Vamos the Smith, as carved onto the walls of his smithy.

"It was chaos, a hellscape that lay just beyond the veil that separated the real Anor Londo from the Painted World. Six men had gone through, one of them a monster in human form, to rescue the Commander Hihime from the Noble Knights camped in the Great Hall beyond. Pillars of flame cast a malignant glow, the screams of the wounded and dying a vile cacophany which flowed into one another creating a macabre dirge, and the flash of steel drawn fro scabbards as the knights struggled to react. While all of this was going on a shadow seemed to detach itself from the rafters above. I'm sure if anyone had seen it they would have asssumed it to be a trick of the half light, I know I did. It was more that that. Its very presence radiated malice and the stink of death, it walked upright, human form, cowled, drawn into the folds of its ragged clothes. As it approached the viel I could see two sickle blades, blood coating the thin steel curves of the blades, which flashed with Occult energies. The being went straight for the veil, never stopping as dozens of Lifehunters reached for thier weapons. The Hand of Priscilla gestured
weakly for them to put away their swords,a s if he didn't really care, eyes alive with curiousity. As the shade approached the hand it fell to a knee, hooded face staring up at him, from within the cowl something started to pulse a malign green....."

Excerpt from Hammen the Scale's Journal, A Record of my Studies into Ariamis.

    Isaac's mission
    Spoiler:
It was shortly after Isaac re-emerged from the painted world with all 10 of his Sunlit Knights that Oscar called for me. I entered his war chamber to see he and Isaac pouring over what i assumed to be a battle plan. Upon my arrival They both looked up. "Ah, Farel, glad you could make it" Oscar said "Isaac has recovered from his mission and wishes to record the events in more detail, so the world know what we are up against".
"My lord I would happily hear it." I could not believe it, a Grand Master would be telling me personally of his tale.
"Meet me in my quarters in 15 minutes please Farel, I just need to finish up here".
    "Of course my lord."
True to his word Isaac arrived within 15 minutes.
"I guess I'll start from the moment after we entered"
"Imagine you are a knight of the sun, used to its warmth and protection. Now imagine having that stripped away, perpetual night and biting cold. That is the land of the exiles, the painted world of Ariamis. I do not see how they can bear to live there. Death seems preferable to its conditions. Nevertheless we continued on. I can only thank Oscar for
sending me there though. It gave my men a chance to acclimatise. We spent the first day hiding, being used to not having a sun, we couldn't fight. But on the second day we were ready. We emerged from their underground sewers and stole through the annex. From atop the annex we recorded troop positions, barriers and the like. All unseen. Then came
our hardest test, to bring Oscar back evidence to prove the Sentinels were right. We saw hundreds of mutants, heretics and Gravesworn and though we wished to cleanse those chaos filth none were what we truly needed. It was only when I risked venturing into the central palace that we discovered them.. The crossbreeds. Filthy dragon things, human
who have surrended themselves to the promise of power. However unlike them I had honour. I would not kill one while they slept. I moved my knights into their training arena where we hid until a group came to practice. Then we emerged, blocking the exits so they had to face us. Now let me tell you something. For all their power, their claws, their
giants weapons, they die easily. I slew my first by plunging my blade into his chest, my second by removing his head. By then the rest were dead. 8 dragons dead in as many swings of a blade. These dragons are their ace in the hole. Their surprise weapon ... but they;re nothing. Oscar and the DragonSlayers will take them apart." I was amazed, shocked into silence. This man had slain 2 of our most feared foes. He was a legend.
"Itgot harder after that" he continued "The sound of battle had been heard, the dying screams of the crossbreeds. We had to fight our way out, but we carved through them with ease. Few had the time to stand in our way and we ignored those who fled. We emerged victorious where none of them dared follow. And that's my story Farel. Grand enough for you.?"
I think he saw the awe of my face because he simply patted me on the back and left."

Preface to Farel Gharllen's "The war to retake Lordran - Part II"

    Discovery of the Sentinels
    Spoiler:
"In preparation for the upcoming war the knights moved their forces into Anor Londo, occupying several large buildings for their living quarters and making good use of the large spaces to run training drills. It was here after a few days that the knights had a great surprise. A small group of humans dressed in the armour of the sentinel giants they
had seen guarding the palace of Gwynevere were encountered by a patrol
. Showing themselves willing to join Oscar they were brought before him in private. The next day Oscar came before us with the tale they had told him. And what a tale it was ..."

Excerpt from Farel Gharllen's "The war to retake Lordran - Part II"

    The Sentinel's Story
    Spoiler:
"It was a day like any other. We were standing guard along
the length of the grand hall. There were hundreds of us back then, as
many as there were silver knights. The city was bustling and alive, the
gods keeping watch, the sun bright and glorious. Yet there was an ever
present palour of gloom pervading the city. The hole that Gwyn had
left when he departed to save the world was still fresh, and it was
reflected in the city. When night fell we dispersed to patrol the city
and the knights took over guarding the palace. It didnt take the
commanders long to notice, the city was peaceful. Our men wer strong
and there was little that could harm them. The commanders sent 10
sentinels to where the patrols were disappearing. None came back. And
by then it was too late. They emerged from the painted church, hollows,
mutants ad demons. Led by a giant dragon queen wielding a scythe of
death. We fled back to the palace to regroup while the citizens were
    slaughtered.

The silver knights tried to hold them back but the weapons wielded
by the mutants struck them down easil, some sort of occult power cut
straight though their armour. Our sentinels fared little better when we
engaged to allow the knights to fall back. With our casualities above
50% Gwynevere ordered us to flee. We formed up with the knights and
dirve a wedge into the heart of our foes army. We lost hundreds but
with their lives they bought the gods freedom. When word cam through
the gods were safe we retreated again. The silver knights fled back to
the palace and sealed it off preventing the painted queen from gaining
access. Locked out from our own base we witnessed the death of the sun.
Bereft of Gwynevere's power the sun faded to darkness and twilight
descended upon Anor Londo. We fled to the city's lower depths and hid.
We have stayed there for this whole time, waiting for someone to return
so we could lend them our aid."

Oscar paused to let the story sink in. "My knights, the evils that
await us in the painted world are the most evil of them all. They drove
the gods from their city, killed their guardians and attempted to kill
the vgods themselves! We cannot let these evils exist any longer. With
the lost sentinels of this city, we will destroy them."

    Character Bio's

    Exile Knight Ser Joran Letos
    Spoiler:
" In the ruddy glow of that accursed latern the heads of Oscar's knights convened in reagrdds to the twenty armoured figures that had rode into camp that very day. The Grand Hall was cavernous, and the shuffling of armoured boots, and the song of chain links rang amongst the giant pillars of solid marble. All about the splendour of the god home, Anor Londo, was clear, intricate gold works ran up the walls depicting scenes of intense beauty and viscious combat. It was in these magnificent halls that Oscar II and his Knight Captains took to meet. Lady Mildred of Catarina sat in a high backed oaken chair at Oscar's right, her wrought iron armour clad her form, obscuring it entirely within its unique folds. To the left was the Astoran Commander Knightess Allant, with her retuine of gleaming knights, her heraldry proudly proclaiming her allegiance to the Noble
Knights. Other stood around the table. The sunlit knight Ser Isaac, who was rarely present due to the import of his missions into the Painted World, the Chronicler Farel Gharllen, scribbling in a massive leather bound tome, and many more besides. The banner of Ser Ademar was present, his great lion in black on s field of Gold, Lady Tandalla's Oared Ships of the city of Eos, and the grim bloody axe of the Annodhals.

Together they made a splendid sight, laquered armours embossed with various icons and badges of honour, many wore the purity seals to protect their souls from the Painted Beasts that sortied from the Painting each night, and many swords, spears, and axes could be seen readied from amongst the myriad cloaks they wore.

"Aye" said Oscar, nodding his head in acknowledgement. "Oath Breaker he is, and an Exile at that. But that cannot stop us from accepting his aid."

A series of uncomfortable murmurs ran around the hall, a few even voiced thier disdain at his suggestion.

"What little good they will do." Mildred, this time "How do we know they won't break at first shock?" Her mailed fist smashed into the table, denting the wood, amongst nods of agreement.

"Astoran's never break." Lady Allant replied courteously, yet firm. "A knight who swore his vows once has come before us and now seeks to redeem himself in the eyes of the Gods. Its is said that though they revile him still he skill with blade and lance is worth taking note. And that man he brought with him, the one with the spiked hammer, is that not Lord Soren BlackHall? His aid would make it worth taking in all of the oath
breakers and sell sword this man brough with him."

There was silence for a time until a young squire spoke up.

"I agree... with the Lady I mean.... Lord BlackHall is part of legend after all... and..when we took the Oathbreaker. Did he not act honourably during the Lifehunter Abomination's ambush?"

"Aye" a unanimous chorus from a large number of the knights present.

Oscar was silent for a time. His brow knitted as he weighed up the options before him. In taking the Grand Hall for a base of operations he and his men were well situated and able to keep track of the Lifehunter's movements, although it left them open during the night when the Abominations would launch craven ambushed and fients from the Paintings mysterious surface.

Many minutes passed before Oscar spoke again, his voice sounded tired, but strong like it always was. He rose from the benches and gathered himself in his warm woolen cloak, trimmed a rich gold on a regalblue surface.

"Saddle the horse's. I wish to talk to the Oathbreaker. I will confirm if this man is to be
trusted. Though make arrangements for Lord BlackHall to join us in the main camp. I'm sure he will decline but I can't hurt to be prepared."

He saddled himself, practiced movements barely an after thought to him no. Gods, he though to himself, first that note in the war room and now a traitors ilk seeking his redemption.

"Oh and see to it that the guards at the Paintiing get double rations tonight. I fear we
have not seen the worst of these Lifehunter scum, I want the guard to be ready and in good spirits when they come, those monsters will see we shall not be repulsed so easily."

And with that he turned and left for the camps outer tents.

A scene by the Lantern in a Great Hall.

"It was ten days past when the knights dragged me from my cell in the confines of the dungeons. They were rough, took my plate, my sword, and my ring. The bastards never gave it back, but I'll find them one day, not sure what I'll do but given my intent to serve this Oscar it had better not involve the blade of a sword.

They took me up, on the rotating spiral staircase, up to the secondary cathedral in which lay the largest painting I have ever seen. I was taken before the knight commander himself at the outskirts of the main encampment. To my surprise Lord BlackHall was there. He must have accepted the offer Oscar had lain before him.

I don't blame the man. The dungeons were dank and deep, who knew what horrors lay in the darkness that I didn't see.

The man, Oscar, a knight of my homeland was a sight to behold, polished armour, rondels forged in the shape of a lion and a dragon, and gorget inscribed with the mantra of the noble knights that served him. His cloak was a sable white, gold fibres interwoven into the fabric. He was as noble as the stories said. The situation was better than I'd feared but far worse than I had hoped.

He stood before me and asked why I wanted to serve him, why I, an oathbreaker, would want to serve him and follow his code?

I told him my tale, **** stained and sobering as it was. I told him why I left the order and why I forsook my lord commanders orders. He listened. Never said a word, not even a yawn or a gasp of horror at what I suffered at the hands of the Mages.

He just listened until I finished. Afterwards he took me by the hand, helped me to my feet and returned my gear to me. The ring was with it. No need for tracking them down anymore. He told me that if I served him in this war faithfully and lived to tell the tale he would see about absolving my sins and making me a Templar once again.

I said nothing. What more was there to say."

A torn excerpt from Templar Knight, Ser Letos' Journal as found in the Noble Knights camp before the Painted War.

" The sun was low in the sky over Anor Londo when Ser Letos and
the band of knights made it to the summit of the mountain on which the
foreboding Duke's Archives squated, casting its malign shadow over the
Noble Knights camps. The heavy clicking of chain links and the stamp of
armoured boots ran out, and the crash of plate mail striking the earth
as two of the knights collapsed to the group from exertion.

    "Gods
be!" Knight Captain Medi excalimed under his breath, his accent thick
with the lyrical waxing of Thorolund. " That was a climb worthy of
song." He glanced down the cliff noting the outline of the narrow and
jagged path they had used to scale the heights. He adjusted his left
pauldron, which, like most of his armour was made of solid stone, making
his stamina something worthy of song indeed.

    To his right
a high ranking Cleric Knight, must have also been from Thorolund due to
his largeish nose, spoke up. "Aye, why not simply make a push up the
main causeway instead of forcing us all to climb that death trap of a
cliff?" His tone was harsh, but also strained, fatigue did that to even
    the noblest of knights.

Letos dropped to a knee, he could
feel a thick sheen of sweat had formed on his head, he wiped back
sopping hair, glanced around that the knights that had followed his
orders up the mountain. The two Thorolundians in thier massive stone
suits of mail, a knight of Berenike, Ser Theodas, a Baldur Knight whose
name he could not remember, Ser Borik of Catarina, and furthest away
from him standing tall and unaffected by the climb a golden armoured
    Dragonslayer.

Word had it that the Dragon hunterAeter
Leotin was a master of his craft and born of a lineage that harken back
to the day of Ornstien the Dragon Slayer himself. The man was tall, but
radiated immense strength, his silence had lasted from the lower
escarpment until now where he spoke solemnly. "Woulds't thou have had us
enter weapons at the ready into the waiting jaws of these mages? Would
you? Oscar gave command to this Oathbreaker" he spit the words out
disdainfully. "But even so his skill in hunting Malificarum is extremely
valuable should the Painted Abominations rely on thier twisted magics."

    The
knights nodded in acknowledgment. it was hard to argue with a veteran
of a thousand battles, most of which had probably been against the
fearsome drakes and dragons of the lower valleys of Lordran and beyond.

    "Right"
Ser Letos voice, stronger now than it had been a momment ago, though
still sounding rough like sandpaper. "As I explained as we climbed the
mountain. Mages are dangerous creatures. Abominations everyone of them
    make no mistake. This"

He gestured to the pommel of his
sword. "Will be your greatest strength here. Mages need focus to weave
thier spells thus planning and speed are required to catch such fiends
of guard. Stun them if you can. Take them alive so that we man Pacify
them, or should they resist send them to the Maker's Hells."

There was silence at the edge of that clifftop. The knights nodded begrudgingly and began to check thier armour one last time.

The bear no love for me, though Letos to himself, I shall have to be careful here, not just my life depends on this.

He clutched at the twisting iron bands of the ring he kept beneath his chest plate.

    Maker
guide me. Blessed are those who stand before the corrupt and the wicked
and do not falter, he began the litany of the Templars, and Lilith, at
the Makers side, will the almight one to guide us from this forsaken
    place.

And with that he placed the winged Knight
Vigilant's helm over his head, its reflective blue sheen glinting in the
sun, and signaled for them to move forwards, into the adjoint east wing
    of the archives."

" "Knight Captain, the Lord Commander will see you now"

    So
it was that the scenes began to flash before Letos eyes in the halls of
the Duke's Archive. The marble walls and booklined shelves passing away
into the sparse white walls and sigils of the Templar's keep, the White
Spyre, in the Astoran city of Eos.

    "Thank you Ser Jayce,
for bringing along my message so quickly. Oh and todays sparring match
was excellent, you can trust I will at least scratch that gilded
    breastplate of yours."

The old knight grinned, a toothy
sort of smile, his white whiskers ran down his cheecks, before twisting
together in a single braid, held in place by an iron band. The wrinkles
that lined his forehead were deep, a life of duty and sacrifice did that
to you Letos had once supposed, but this did not dettract from the
piecing gaze of his ice blue eyes. They shone with the kind of youth few
    Templars ever retained.

"Aye" his amused reply. "When the cooks goats fly I'll see you do it. Enter."

    Letos
pushed past the solid oaken door and into a large stone room, lit up
by a dozen blazing torches, a large, and probably vey ancient, desk
diominated the centre of the room, while another double bed with over
hangings of silks all embossed with the Templar's Burning Blade as the
    sigil.

A dozen high ranking templars stood around the desk
pouring over detailed maps of Eos, while others were in deep discussion
about the worring rumours that were spreading through the Underwards.

As he entered the Lord Commander, for it was obvious who she was, turned to meet him, her eyes bright and excited.

    "Leave"
she commanded to the Templars, who bowed gravely, with an armoured
gauntlet. Lord Commander Lilith of the Knights Templar in Eos stood
almost as tall as Letos himself, near enough six feet by his account,
with golden hair spun like satin, which of late she had taken to tucking
neatly behind her small ears so that it would rest comfortably under
    her veil.

She was a plain sort of woman, stringy by the
tastes of most Astoran men, muscled far too much due to her intense
regimen of daily exercise, with a slightly crooked nose and a scar that
ran from the corner of her left eye right back around her head. A blow
that she claimed to have taken from Damet the Bloodsinger himself, of
which she was immensely proud. However despite what the other Templars
whispered about her around the watch fires Letos could not picture a
    more beautiful woman.

"Well" her voice full of energy. " I
sent away all of my advisors just to see you. I wonder what they will
think of this." he slightest hint of suggestion coloured her tone.

    The
Knight Captain could not help but smile back. "Aye, but I do not stand
to be some Lord Commanders private caller while on duty. I came because
the city watch needs more man power."

Lilith pouted ever so slightly at his impassive remark.

    "We
cannot hold the walls, watch the people, and sweep the streets for
renegades and mages. There is too much ground and fourhundred men won't
    cut it."

The Lord Commander walked over to the desk, mail
shirt clinking as she went, a solid crunch of metal on metal as she
dropped into her ornate chair. She eyed him once, intent veiled behind a
lifetime of traumatic events, then linking finger placed her hands in
such a way that she could rest her head.

    "You know very
well why I can't give you more men. Wwe lack numbers enough to protect
the border and yet you come to me with these request your know I can't
    fulfill"

"Then stop Ammaren from preaching in the city
forum, the people do not like this talk of All father Lloyd. Maker
preserve us of they ever act against the man."

Her reply was curt and finaly "We have a duty to the Faith."

"The end the extreme taxing on food imports and share what we have amongst the people."

"Our duty to the Faith demands we store our own supplies."

    "Dammit
woman the Underdwellers believe that we are soon to be punished by the
Maker, and these rumours of prophetic magelings aren't help to win over
the populous. Give me leave and a dozen good me...."

    "We
have a duty to the Faith." Final. She left no room for compromise. "I
can't give you men for such a trivial matter. The citizens will follow
us because we have the very gods on our side, you and your men make no
difference whatsoever down thier on the streets." Her tone was cold,
impassive, and sounded very tired. " A Templar who walks the streets is
    just a glorified sentry who....."

    She stopped then. Letos
went still, his teeth ground together, muscles in his shoulders tensed
as if to throw a blow, though his eyes conveyed the hurt, and perhaps
    the truth of her remarks.

She gazed up at him apologetically and left the high backed chair to wrap and arm around his neck.

"I...I don't know what came over me. I'm sorry. Will you stay?"

    Heat
suffused Letos cheeks. Does she have any respect for me at all, he
wondered to himself bitterly. She decided my duties, does she keep me
here to protect me? The though sickened him, other Templars had died
where he might have served yet his place had always been in the City
Watch. He stood abruptly, brushing away Lilith's armoured embrace,
hearing her gasp as she bit her tongue when his shoulder impacted with
    her chin.

And without saying a word he left.

    Around
him the Duke's Archives became more clear, as past blurred back into
present and the silence, but the tramp of armoured steps, was broken by a
horrible scraping off to the groups left.

    Letos signalled
for the knights to spread out as a dozen crystal clad forrms burst into
the room carrying wicked looking blades. In seconds the hollow soldiers
where upon them, the unifeid shield wall lost amidst the tide of
seething bodies and the glint of steel in the half light."

Farel Gharllen (adding some depth to the guy)
    Spoiler:
That day I approached Oscar with a heavy yet hopeful heart. Isaac's tale in the painted world had put an idea in my head that would not go away. If I were to chronicle the true heroes of this war .. well I could not do it from a far. So I asked Oscar for permission to join him during the invasion. To accompany him by his side, witnessing
firsthand his and Isaac's exploits. It took him a long time to decide. He questioned me thoroughly, making sure I knew the risks. But if I were to truly record this victory I would need to be there. He looked straight into my eyes and I think he saw my determination because he finally granted my request. He told me to get a suit of astoran armour from the peddlers and a shield. He also allowed me a sword on my word that I would not use it to attack, only defend myself.

And so I took to training with the knights, practicing and duelling with them. Over the 2 weeks I had I saw my skill improv dramatically. I was able to move in the armour without tripping and block a weapon that I saw coming. I felt confident in my ability to survive. Of course I had no idea what this choice would cost the knights
    .

Excerpt from Farel Gharllens's "The was to retake Lordran - Part II"

Etraiu the Warrior, Auriculae Hoarder, Member of the High Council of Ariamis
    Spoiler:
"Etraiu is a strange man. Not to say he is unfit for his position,
quite the opposite in fact. He is direct in speech, cautious in thought
and impulsive in action, fierce when confronted but gentle given the
choice, intelligent enough to design engines of war yet the day he
remembers where he left his crown will never come. One can know him for
years and never see beyond his cool indifference. To truly know him, one
must see him alone or with his wife, queen, or adviser, the only people
he is known to trust. The impending suffering saddens him greatly, yet
when battle is upon him, not even a direct order from the Crossbreed
herself could stay his hand. He becomes battle mad. No fear, no pain, no
pity, only those to be killed and those who stay out of the way. Only
Hihime can preserve his sanity, I pray for everyones sake she returns
    before the battle begins."

On Etraiu, an interview with Lieutenant Thadius
Exerpt from The History of Ariamis"

    Crossbreed Valinthor
    Spoiler:
"When I saw the Crossbreeds arriving in the Painted World as
strong sense of awe overtook me. They were so maginificant, so regal, so
ferocious. Foremost amongst them was the one they called Valinthor, a
young but accomplished chieftain. Others were Arrodach, Ild'Nys, and
Laiirephaidron. However many there were I could not say but I found the
young one to be a fascinating subject indeed. He had a martial mindset,
ever training his body to become stronger. With a blade of pure
Dragonbone I saw him shear through a section of the ramparts with a
single one handed blow. Another time, with his claws, he caved in the
chest piece of a scouting knight before ripping out the mans throat with
his bare teeth. On further inspection it seemed the young one was a
peaceable person indeed, however unbelievable this may have seemed. He
spent much time in the Annex build conversing with me during which time a
developed a fondness of the youth. Though several hundred years old,
Valinthor was still a boy yet to be blooded by the Elders, and as such
his position reflected how much he had achieved in such a short span of
time. While Arrodach was wise and fierce, Ild'Nys impertuous and thrill
seeking, and Laiireohadron a loud and belligerent dragon young Valinthor
was ever quiet, ever focused, ever prepared."

Excerpt from Hammen the Scales Journal, My Studies into Ariamis.

    Plaggy <3
    Spoiler:
"We came from all walks. Some were nobles, some were peasents; all
were cast out. In Exile, we wandered; And at long last, our Queen
welcomed us home. We forced no one from their home to survive. We struck
at no man. We only seek the one who united us, who gave us a life. A
    purpose.

And yet, now you march against us. Like lambs to the
slaughter, you march towards Her realm and seal your fates. Every man
you send against us shall be slain. The harder you fight, the harder you
will fall. It took the strength of 3 Lords to strike against the
dragons, and now you fight against them.

    You strike against a
force you can not beat. If you begin, there will be no justice. There
will be no salvation. We fight under the banner of the Queen, and you
fight alone. Our Lady drove your very gods from their own citadel in
fear; they will not lift a finger in your defence.

They know that to do so is to become the supper of The Eternal Gravelord." Plagius in a rare moment of sanity.

"My troops, I'm not going to lie to you, our situation today is very
grim. The knights have never failed a campaign, and they look like
dorks. The truth is, most of you are probably going to die. And the
survivors will envy the dead. But we have to win this. We have to win
this so that someday, our children can enjoy the taste of chocolate
again. Everything is at stake here. Literally everything. If we lose,
the whole universe just blinks out like a light bulb. And now I realize
that most of you don't know what a light bulb is. Well, take it from
me, it's bad. But if we have to go down, let's go down fighting, like
heroes, so that as the darkness closes in, we can think to ourselves,
    at least we had fun.

    Are
you afraid to die? I know I am. I can feel those cold shivers of fear
like someone is pumping ice cream into my shirt. But I know... that
history is watching us. It was watching us when we changed into our
uniforms. It was probably taking pictures. And history, my troops, is
written by the victors. If we win this, we can write our own history. A
history in which the First Flame was created by an evil slug with a
tinderbox. We can make everyone study that history, even though it
isn't true, and if they don't answer the right way on our tests...
they'll fail the class. Isn't that worth dying for? No, don't answer
that. Some things are better left unknown.

    None of us know why
we're here. None of us know why we're fighting. We just woke up in these
uniforms in this mysterious world, knowing only that there was no way
to get our names and memories back except victory. The soldiers in that
other army out there... they're just like us. They don't want to die.
They're fighting to protect each other, the only friends they have
left. They're fighting because they know they have families who'll miss
them, even if they can't remember now. They may even be fighting to
save the world. But we have a better reason to fight than they do. We
fight because we like it. We fight to amuse eldritch monstrosities from
beyond Space and Time. We fight because we're Chaos. Soon the final
battle will begin, so let me say now, because I won't get a chance
later, that it was an honor to be your commander, however briefly.
Thank you, thank you all. And remember, your goal isn't just to cut down
the enemy, it's to make them afraid."

Speech given by Irixm "Howling mad" Plagius, soldier of the Painted Queen.

    Spurgun
    Spoiler:
i have always been shunned by others, because of my appearance, my decisions and my behavior. but i will not talk about it now, for i have been turned undead and it doesnt matter anymore. what matters is the letter that i got, the day after i was banished from the army due to my curse. it was sent from a "lifehunter" i have never heard of them before, but it said that i had been invited to the painted world of ariamis- the home of the crossbreed priscilla. apparently they have been watching me, and now they want me to join their guards. i was thrilled, someone would grant me a new home, a home where i would not be shunned like the plague but rather embraced. that was the day that i started my journey to lordran."

    "i
dont remember how many months i have traveled. but i have honed my skills on the way, and i have gotten many more letters, i have no idea how i get them but i find them in the morning. i have also met a very curios person. he said that he was just a "peddler,of sorts" , i got the feeling that he was hiding something, but i didnt care about it at that time.what i did care about was the rumor he told tome, that people were training to become dragons.i know that priscilla is part dragon, and i have decided to become part dragon myself-to honour her. it will be my only stop before finding the painted world of ariamis."

    "I
have probably been traveling for about a year now. i have learned of Etraiu the Warrior, one of the council members in the painted world and wyrmhero, the founder of the lifehunters. I have heard of their deeds and their dedication. I admire them, for they are trusted by the queen herself, priscilla. My anonymous friend in the lifehunters have told me about how they are ruthless when they have to but also kind to their brethren. I also envy them, for I am not ruthless, rather, I always feel pity for my enemies. But I will learn to be ruthless, and I will become strong enough to fight alongside them.""

I will soon reach my first goal, lordran. From there I will seek out the remaining dragon and join its covenant. But I have heard of a new happening in lordran. The noble knights will try to “purge” the painted world from evil. "noble knights", pah, they fight only to satisfy their own thirst for blood. attacking the home of a queen who has never tried to harm them only proves this. But I will not let this happen, I know that the lifehunters she already has are more than capable of defending her from such ignorant bastards, but I want to prove myself too. I will become one of them before the war. And when they come they shall see how powerful we are."

"pages from a diary found by the lifehunters"
    Hihime
    Spoiler:
"I will not lie men, we are cut off. There is no escape for us or our
Queen should we fail. The knights will kill our Lady, burn our homes,
and butcher our familys unless we stop them. Reinforcements, should we
be so lucky, would have to march through the enemy camp to get here. We
are alone in this battle. That is the unpleasant reality with which we
are faced. If you wish to leave, I will not stop you, but I go nowhere. I
stand to offer the same salvation my queen offered me. I stand to
protect my home, and yours. I stand against these knights, these
ignorant misguided cowards who dare claim noblity to send them back to
their pitiful gods, who dare not intrude upon our land. To send them
back with hearts full of sorrow, and tales of true noblity, the noblity
of the brave souls who stood against them and defended their homes, of
the strength of the outcasts, shunned from society and of their own
bitter defeat. There is no escape, but I say we haven't the need. I say,
we make them rue the day they dared set foot on our land and send them
    back where they came from!"

Speach given just before the battle by Regiment Commander Hihime as the invasion began.

"I had just entered Anor Londo, having completed my training in the
great swamp and eager to return to my home and family, when I saw them
from utop the stairs. Soilders in uniform, patroling near the lift that
leads to Ariamis. The lift was in the wrong place as well, it is left
down to discourage intruders, yet as i saw it, it formed a bridge
between the entrance of Anor Londo and the main city. I didn't recognise
the uniforms and my husband would never change something so important
without notifying me. So either the messanger was waylaid or no message
was sent. Neither option was a good omen. I drew my weapon and marched
straight to the sentry and demanded an explination for his presence. He
responded by telling me the area was under quarantine by a Sir Oscar,
and that I was to leave immediately. I killed him and his ally in short
order and crept down to the main building. I was astonished to see a
large camp had been erected in hall. It was clearly an Invasion force,
and there were to many to take alone. A plan formed in my mind, I
returned and stripped a bodie, then threw them both off of the bridge
and hid under the stairs at the bottom of the lift. After donning the
armor as a disguise I sounded the alarm. As the additional sentries ran
past, I slipped into their camp and walked as casually as possible
towards the painting. I had just reached it when one of the sentries
grabbed my shoulder. The clever bastard guessed it was a diversion and
was waiting for me. I spun around and summoned a large blast of fire
with my hand directly on his face and made a break for the painting. The
stupid man grabbed my ankle, and I was pinned down and bound before I
could get back up again. They proceded to drag me to their leader and
I'm currently stuck in a makeshift prison tent. I pray that my husbands
spies recognise me and think to organise my escape quickly. And that the
soldiers here are wary enough to keep their hands to themselves."

    Journal entry of Hihime.

    Natalia Allant
    Spoiler:
Natalia Allant was one of the Knights that went into the deep fog -
her father Ostrava fell hollow when realizing that his father - or what
he had thought to be his father was an archdemon. Natalia struck this
demon down and along with the Maiden in Black banished the Old One, A
new Monumental was born into this world, the next activity of her was
heard in the Noble country of Astora - she had been retraining under Ser
Oscar II's watchful eye to become a Noble Knight, she didn't need this
training due to her already combat readiness, so it was more of a
proving that she had these abilities. Of course after hearing about the
tyrant Avrik she realised that she would be cleansing a new demon from
this world - the Gravesworn, she worked out that the painting concealed
in Anor Londo was very similar to the archstones that she had been in
contact with not so long ago - she informed Oscar that they could attack
through this portal - and destroy the demons that lay within.

    The Knights Noble
    Spoiler:
"Ser Natalia looked over her Astoran knigths training. Sword and
halberd smashed against shield and mannequin, moves flowed into each
other resulting in a never letting up attack. Many of these knights
aspirred to become dragonslayers thus their training represented this.
She looked over to the left where small groups practiced evading the
large swungs of a few captured dragon weapons. Their armour provided
medium protection while allowing freedom of movement. And medium
protection would do nothing against these weapons. Satisfied she descended into their ranks to lend her personal experience to their training."
"Lady Mildred walked among her knights looking out for her newer
knights, the less trained ones. This battle would involve well trained
foes and the large weapons her countrymen favoured required experience
or you would be left open. She saw Oscar's wisdom in holding them as
part of the reserves. They would be best put to use against a weakened,
injured foe. Stopping to help a knight who repeatedly left his left
flank exposed she was glad Oscar would lead the dragonslayers in
together, so that she would not miss the battle."
"Division Sergeant Reaper struck the final blow, knocking thre knight
down. The Oolacilians were only a small group so he had the time to
duel each personally. He had high hopes. Oscar had not given him his
orders yet but had promised he would not be in the reserves. His men's
solid armour and the magic of their swords would be an invaluable tool
in this battle. The next knight stepped forward, Reaper quickly
corrected the knight's stance before they duelled."
"Knight captains Medi and Sun overlooked their Cleric knights. They
were pumped up and rady to fight. Oscar had promised them a place in
the vanguard along with the other Knights of Havel and their Paladins
were following in the second wave. They were spending the time oiling
their armour. Rock armour was prone to catching on itself and needed
oiling to prevent it locking up in combat. The allfather had sent 50
more Paladins after their victory in the Tomb and they were eager to
    prove they were well deserved."
"The knights Amk, Boil, Del and Chi spared together, adrenalne running
high. The berenike knights would be the vanguard of the invasion and
they needed to be their best. Their tower shields would form an
impenetrable wall in front of the balder knights minimising losses and
pushing a wedge deep into the enemy's heart. And they trained all the
harder for another reason. There were no commanders of Berenike, for
now the Knights of Havel commanded them. Whoever could show themselves
capable could achieve a command rank and this pushed them all the
    harder."
"Ser Bee wandered the halls of londo alone. One of the few Carim
knights with Oscar, and probably the only one who actually liked the man
meant he had few friends here. But he vowed to show himself worthy of
being here. The Carim knights had a vital and secret objective in the
attack that was tailored to their offensive abilities that he vowed they
    would achieve."

    The Eclipse
    Spoiler:
"The Eclipse? Every citizen of our world is as family, the Eclipse,
are my comrades. We don't always get along, or even like eachother (fist
fights are common), but any one would take a blade for any other. Its a
special bond, one few outside the service understand, and its woven all
the tighter by the small size and high risk nature of our missions.
Each person must be able to trust their partner implicitly or both will
die. We each have our own skill sets. I train the melee combatants, and
Hihime the casters. The ambush and disguise training is joint and
conducted with at least one other unit, as both stealth and counter
stealth, are taught and practiced at those times. We do not train with
uniformity in mind, rather, our goal in training is to discover, flesh
out, and strengthen each persons natural abilities, while mitigating any
weaknesses. All use deception and stealth, but we use these abilities
in combat as well as ambush, having magic and hiding the ability untill
that 1 cast kills the opponent, baiting a response with empty swings,
then slipping by their counter and shoving a claymore through their
chest, suddenly stepping in next to the opponent, then tripping them and
dropping your zweihander into their face. This is stealth as well, and
it is our specialty. We are not soldiers, we are assassins. A fact often
forgotten by our opponents, just before they die. Like an eclipse, we
bring darkness to any caught in our path."

Interview with Etraiu the Warrior on his soldiers.

    The Legion
    Spoiler:
The Legion (darkwraiths) are the bulk of the Lifehunters military,
comprising a third the total force. They essentialy fall into 3
catagories, spellswords who number a little over a third of the force,
augment the capabilities of themselves or those near by with spells or
miracles and generally favor lighter, faster weapons to offset the time
it takes to cast, though greatswords are not uncommon, soliders who use
the most varied weapons but usually favor greatswords or spears, number
roughly half the total, and Mages who focus entirely on magical combat
and support. The mages can be further divided into clerics, who use
weaker but area of effect magic to harm or heal groups, and sorcerers
who use hugely powerful spells that will pierce straight through their
target, allowing them to kill many soliders along a straight line. The
sorcerers also posess utility spells for hiding themselves,
    strenghtening shields, and repairing weapons.

    The Fire Sages
    Spoiler:
The Fire Sages (chaos servants) are the other large segment at a
little under a third of the total force. They consist almost entirely of
spell swords and casters, in equal numbers. All favoring katanas,
straight swords, rapiers or curved swords like the falchion. The casters
fill the same roll as their wraith counterparts, though they sacrifice
real melee training to master both, or even all 3 of the schools of
magic, making them extremely damgerous and adaptable, though rather
fragile. A few warriors can still be found though. Elite berserkers
refusing to use any weapon smaller than a greatsword, these men (few
females posess the temperament) harness the true power of the inner
flame to greatly boost their own power. Though this practice actual uses
the warriors life force as its energy source and so non can maintain it
for more than 3 minutes at a time without rest or magical healing.

    The Crossbreeds
    Spoiler:
The Crossbreeds, the Black Plauge (gravelords), and the Eclipse (dark moon blades) comprising the remaining third.
    As
such, individualality is far more evident and encouraged by these
groups. Similarly, rather than operate as a group, they operate alone or
in pairs dispersed among the other units or on specific missions.

    The
Crossbreeds, are the men and women seeking to emulate the power of
their Lady herself, and nearly all completely shun armor of any kind.
Their weapons and tactics vary wildely, they take every conceivable
advantage to "compensate" for the lack of armor. The 3 things all share
is an earsplitting roar that temporarily increases their strength and
stunns nearby enemies with their sheer ferocity, the ability to exhale
white fire from their mouths at will, and super human strength, any one
of them can pierce any armor with their bare hands.

    The Black Plague
    Spoiler:
The Black Plauge are those with the power of nito at their command.
The least combat oriented, they summon the forces of death to pull
spirits from the relm of the gods and strengthen them to several times
their normal power before turning them against their enemies. The
bonewheel skeletons they summon are particularly devastating, often
killing several men in rapid succession in less than a second when they
charge. Many are shawmen, using a dark faith to accomplish their goals
and power their "miracles". As with the other small groups, individual
strategies vary, but faith based spells and occult weapons are very
    common.

A page from The History of Ariamis, giving brief descriptions of each section of the Lifehunter military.

Etraiu to the Eclipse before the battle
    Spoiler:
The Eclipse, as they called themselves, were gathered in the
extensive catacombs beneath the keep. Not as somber as one would expect,
jokes and sparring were audible in the darkness.
    "Alright people"
said Etraiu, as he approached the group , crown under his arm. Silence
fell almost immediately as the men and women looked to their leader.

'Ahh, I hate speaches" said Etraiu with a small smile, low chuckling
rose from thoes assembled before him, as each members knew this to be
true. The smile faded quick as his face became serious.

    "Battle
is neigh upon us, and you have been well trained. Some of us will die,
there is no doubt of that, and It will be all the more difficult to take
because each of us knows every other personaly. We are as family. Fight
for that family, survive for that family, and, if you must die for that
family, take as many as you can with you, and find peace knowing that
you are loved, and that you will be honored." he continued, eyes watery,
though few were close enough to see it, and his voice remained steady.

    "Tales
of our deeds echo from this place. We will shape history with our
actions. We will have our vengeance for the suffering our enemy brings
    to us."

Etraius face hardened into a mask of fury, and his voice
took a venomous tone, something no one assembled, save Hihime, had ever
experienced, however irritable and blunt he was, he was extraordinarily
    kind in his strange way.

"We will show these foolish "knights"
the cold fury of the the departed, and they will know the terror only
our victims can. The terror of darkness itself striking them down, the
terror of knowing as they die, that their soul goes not to the gods to
live in their relm, but to velka, who has judged them guilty and for
their crimes, they will spend eternity in darkness and pain. Rise and
deliver them the justice they seek." He relaxed only for a second, then a
    scout whispered in his ear.

    "Runners, to your stations! See
Commander Hihime for your assignments. Laster, Gerald, Raven and
Sebastion, with me." he barked as he put on his crown. There was much to
do. He made a silent prayer for those who would not return, hugged his
wife before she moved forward and began shouting commands over the din
of the readying warriors, and began explaining the mission he and his
    small group would be taking.

Basically. We wil be dropping our signs around the bonfire and spamming dried fingers. With the number of us dropping summons we should have too many people for us all to co-op sumaltaneously. There will also be a FC like round for a few hours over the day where we can have organised fight. Maybe even some 2 vs 2's.
Btw does anyone get the title reference?

That is another thing. I will have to add the leaders of the allied fighters to the scoring system. Also any tips on that are welcome.
@Dark I'll post in the POLG thread to but would you be open to allowing the POLG members to choose their own side? While some may believe Pris deserves protection some may see her as a heretic compared to Gwyn.
