A few tips to those looking for duels in the Burg

Post by Federally on Mon May 14, 2012 6:10 pm

First off, I'm pretty sure the people I'm talking to aren't gonna read this, but I'm gonna write it anyways.

Yesterday I was hanging in the Burg doing PvP on my SL 110, started the night at SL 104 but whatever. I was waiting to be invaded, doing some Gravelording, and summoning folks for duels through their dragon remnants and RSS. I won some, lost some and generally had a good time but I made a few observations I wanna share in the hope it helps someone.

First off if your just a Darkwraith invader, I would prefer if you practiced some decent dueling etiquette but I'm not gonna have a fit if you don't. You're a forceful invader so I expect less of you and its just part of the game. Do as you will, but remember I'll return the favor so if you're BS fishing and I BS you first, please no hate mail.

Now the real reason I wanted to write this was for the guys using dragon remnants or RSS to get a duel. You guys need to remember a few things. When you put that sign down you're asking me to invite you to my world and hope for a fun fight, I'm taking all the risk. So a few pointers.

    1. I can stand on your sign and see you. So if you're using one of those over used builds preferred by the DkS D bags, I'm not gonna invite you. Most people who make for dishonorable/boring dueling partners wear the same stuff and while you may not be a douche bag, you look an awful lot like one, so I'll fight someone else. If you're really attached to that Mask of Mom just become a Darkwraith I'll happily fight you then, but I'm not gonna invite you for a duel.

    2. Remember I can also see your name before inviting you. So if I fight you and its a good fight I'm gonna wanna do it again, especially if I loose because I wanna figure you out. There were several people I dueled multiple times yesterday, one dragon cov I fought 3 times he was med rolling in black knights with a BKGA we split the first 2 and he took the third was an epic grudge match. Conversely if you're a D bag I know your name and where you drop your RSS so I'm gonna come back and *** with you or ignore you resulting in less fun fights for you. Dueled a guy using an RSS yesterday, fight was fun and even till I got the upper hand, then they ran off and healed before I could stop it and won the fight. I sprinted back to their RSS resummoned them, fight went the same way except this time when they used that humanity I chain BS'd them, too bad so sad if you wanna duel do it right.

In summary, act like a real human being who wants to have fun with other similar human beings and you'll find more people who want to fight with you. If you wanna be a dumbass go join the Forest cov, DarkWraiths/Moons and fight people who don't have a choice.

rule#1 when summoning people; never summon people using a bkga. i undersdan what you are saying but there is no way of knwing if theyre gonna fight fair since everyone has a different view of what a far fight is, dont expect people to act like you would but also keep fighting with your own sets of rules which is what i do. you have to know that most people think pvp is all about bs'ing first and it is true no matter how people say it's not but i dont bs to try to show them that there's other ways of fighting besides just bsing people.

Man that guy with the BKGA was awesome, fought him three times in a row and it was the best series of duels all night. He was basically doing a Black Knight cosplay and he was really good.

I'm not to stringent on my rules when it comes to dueling. However if you're hoping that someone clicks your summon sign you should behave because it helps you get more fights. That's really my point in all this, not to complain about tactics or builds.

if i see theyre cosplaying i would definately summon them but yeah i never summon anyone when im hosting since EVERYONE just fishes for bs, this is in btown btw. i think its funny that fishers either use a huge elemtal weapon or a rapier/bk.

Ps3, Psn is the same as forum handle and in my Sig! big grin

@Rant, he had the axe and full BK armor so I took a risk on him. When he medium rolled I was shocked! It was so great to find some random dude who was really good and doing a fun cosplay. Sadly I'm not doing a cosplay but my build is fun anyways.

I see the same MoM people all the time, too. A lot of them in full Giant's, other than the mask.

    I don't bother summoning them.

I wonder if many people do!

Then there was this other guy: wearing the Brass set and wielding a shotel. I figure, "I don't use a shield this'll be interesting!" Nope... As soon as I summoned him he switched to a chaos rapier and bsed me. With a sliver of health left I chain-bsed him, and never summoned him again (I never bs unless bsed first. And if I judge it was a cheap bs, then I do go for the chain--bsers need to know what it feels like).

But at least these people are using signs, so I can choose to summon them or not. Most invaders I've fought have been decent. I guess I'm less picky of invaders, because I can't choose them! But if I really disliked the fight, I message them to crystal out next time and let me fight someone who's interested in a good fight, rather than 2-shotting their opponent with a DMB + PW.

Really though, all in all, I generally have a good time in the Burg. It's easily the best PvP spot I've been to so far, so I'm happy with it.

Yeah I wasn't saying the Burg is bad, I have fun there. But there may be some guy out there decked out in MoM+full giants wielding a UGS wondering why he never gets summoned. Maybe he'll find this thread and it will help him.

    But i doubt it

He probably doesn't read much anyway. Haha. I kid, I kid.

I never summon those people either. Made that mistake too many times. I sometimes think, maybe this dude is different, but typically their gear isn't the only thing they have in common. So thanks, but no thanks.

My rule number 1 in the Burg is that "NO ONE IS A NEWBIE!"

No matter how newbie they look they never are.....

Uncommon armor combo actually puts me on guard. It makes them an unknown entity with no frame of reference. I instantly label them as a pro until I see them act.

What's the RSS level range in the Burg? I'll use that to power level to 120.

The range is usually between 80 and about 130.

I went to the burg yesterday for some PvP and this is what i got: I was summoned from RSS at the top of the steps outside the bonfire. Guy walked down the steps and went to his corner. I went down towards my corner and while bowing I got axed in the back by a boar helmet wearing... ahem, who came out of the wodden shield door. I survived and tried to get them both in my sights, the host ran away and to the top of the stairs to apparently watch while the summoned ghost and I duke it out. I WotG'd him to a bloody pulp over by the stairs to the merchant. With Boar Head out of the way I came for the host who was running away from me. I had him almost dead when a sunbro was summoned. I was way too pissed to give a crap about the sun"bro" and the host had only one hit left so I kept at him. Sunbro finished me off and then he fell off the edge.

I had a strange PvP experience in the burg. I got summoned and don't see anyone. I even checked the door. Then another phantom invaded and we fight. I won and waited for the host to come out to get it's blood stain or something. Still nothing. I checked around, all the hollows are in place, no strange barrels out of place, still no host. Is there some sort hiding place I don't know about? In the end, I just BC out.

Maybe the host died mid summon and the game didn't fail the summon like it should. Or some other variation on that as it seems like a bug

Yeah, I didn't set the RSS there again. The next match I put it in the arena and as I was sumoned a havel cosplay did fire tempest. Luckily I was right between pillars and got out of it. I gave him the and he gave me a and one hit killed me after a few strafing moves while host admired. Anyway, it's all in good fun.

There are a lot of good spots to hide evn before the arena if you jump down to the area below the arena. A lot of people don't even know you can get down there.

One of the spear hollows above the merchant area is missing so he's been there. Is that where you can jump down?
