Yeah but Diablo came out 35 years ago, 2012 is a different time. It is now the Age of Dark Souls

Yeah but Diablo came out 35 years ago, 2012 is a different time. It is now the Age of Dark Souls
But it'll pass the time until 2021 when Half Life episode 3 comes out.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think Dark Souls has ruined all other fantasy-styled games for me... Not sure about Diablo 3, but I tried both Skyrim and The Witcher 2 and turned them off about 10 hours in.

This! Sadly, every other new RPGs, not counting the classic ones of course, looks boring for me. Final Fantasy is the exception

Not to mention the fighting in Skyrim is abysmal compared to DkS.
I also appreciate the lack of elves in DkS.

Depends, I love the story/atmosphere of mass effect..but elder scrolls does get tedious as hell, story isn't too good.

Totally. I thought Witcher 2 might be a decent distraction, and while the combat in that game is better than in Skyrim, it is still abysmal compared to DkS.
Apparently if you level up some skill trees or whatever, fighting becomes more varied in Witcher, but why should I have to level up? Dark Souls gives me badass combat out of the box.
(Not to mention PvP--which I think they removed from Diablo 3, last I heard).

final fantasy died A LONG time ago, the last great one was ff9. it hurts to say it but its true.

Yeah, you're right. Mass Effect is the one series I can still stomach. The combat in that game is actually pretty decent too, but it's the "pew pew" variety... Doesn't compare as easily with DkS (which is a good thing for Mass Effect).

XIII and it's bastard child are both poor though, the completely automated battles just ruin it for me.
However, enjoy Diablo 3, hope it's worth all the hype that everyone and their mothers has heaped on the thing.

key word here is "great" i didnt like ffx but the upgrade system was pretty good though. ff12 i liked the combat but the story sucked! i beat yiazmat and got the tournesol which was pretty awesome. but they were nowhere near as good as the ones before them, some of them outright sucked pretty bad.

Yeah, and FFX and FFXII are both "great", undeniably so. It's the same as I could say FFVIII's story was incoherent in places and junction system meant experience was totally meaningless, but that doesn't change the game from being good. They all have aspects which make the game, but places with mean they're not perfect, which is impossible to eradicate really.

Well, the newer Final Fantasy actually innovated a bit.
Look at FFX Sphere Grid and FF13 Paradigm System. Those are truly big changes.
On topic: I want to like Diablo. I want to have a reason to purchase it. But it seems to be as grindy as Disgaea, only in real time.
