Parry/Riposte
In PvP, how come when I parry someone, I never get a chance to riposte? I'll parry a guy, see the animation where I get the riposte opening but I don't hear the parry sound. I only hear the parry sound like a second after and by then it's too late to land my riposte.

Re: Parry/Riposte
That's strange. I'll just blame lag. Are you seeing the riposte animation, or just the parry animation?

Re: Parry/Riposte
Latency. riposting 1/4 of a second after the parry animation starts should work. the sound isn't really important, sometimes it doesn't play at all

Re: Parry/Riposte
The animation that I see is when the guy gets his weapon turned away and has his torso exposed.

That's the parry animation. Do you see the riposte animation?

Re: Parry/Riposte
That the depends on the shield you are using. Small shields have a longer parry-stun animation I believe, and the longest I think is the Dark Hand/Bare Fist/Fist weapon.

Do you mean where the guy stands perfectly still?
No.
No.

Thanks, didn't know that. I thought smaller shields only made it easier to parry, I didn't know they affect the length of the stun.

Re: Parry/Riposte
Once you get used to parrying, you'll know whether or not you got it even before their "open to riposte" animation starts, so you'll be ready to hit it immediately.
But whether or not you can land it also depends on proximity to the target and the angle at which you're standing. You'll need to be standing in front of them and at close range.

It seems to me that axe/blunt weapons have more wiggle room in landing a riposte after a parry. I think it's because they use that sideways sweep animation. I've missed ripostes with my Pike and BSS far more than with my various axes and blunts.

Re: Parry/Riposte
That's so true. It's a great feeling to know you timed it perfectly. In the split second after the L2 but before the parry connects, you know it's going to land. There is just a feel to it (knowing when your parry will be successful).DamageCK wrote:Once you get used to parrying, you'll know whether or not you got it even before their "open to riposte" animation starts, so you'll be ready to hit it immediately.
But, I have gotten so I don't riposte right away. On occasion, the parry angle will be a little off. The parry will connect, but my riposte will only be a simple R1 attack. So, I parry, take a step toward the center, and then riposte.

Re: Parry/Riposte
Anytime you parry, should take a few steps closer so you're right in front of them.

Re: Parry/Riposte
Stepping into the riposte is a good habit to develop. I've lost too many ripostes not to do that now. But like you were saying, that feeling when you already know you got it. That's the best feeling in this game for me. When you see the swing come down after the parry. Swish.

Re: Parry/Riposte
If you plan on stepping into a riposte, you might as well take as far as learning to two-hand your weapon for the riposte. That extra damage could prove to be useful in the long run.

Re: Parry/Riposte
Does it really do extra damage? I've lost ripostes trying to do it and trying to swap weapons during the window. It would be awesome if this is true.

Re: Parry/Riposte
I've seen some sort of increase two-hand riposting. Not sure of how much the increase is but it sure is badass looking imo.
