So I'm Writing A Story...

To get straight to the point it's a war between Angels and Dragons. The problem is that I already have my "elder" angels, who are the angels referenced in Christianity and Judaism as the 7 ArchAngels, but I don't really have any inspiration for "elder" Dragons.

Pictures, Music, Art, Movies, anything goes I'm just looking for stuff that really has that ancient dragon feel to it. Need to get the creative juices flowing.

Use dragons of elements perhaps? Remember they need not be of the same number even.

I liked the lore for the dragons...

I felt the idea of a single leader of them... who could resurrect them stretched an already thin premise too far.

I prefer a barbaric image of Dragons, creatures of pure destruction, perhaps as a punishment upon man. However this is obviously going away from his story idea

I think a council, or simple an unofficial group of revered dragons who act as leaders without actually being so is a better idea.

I'm thinking that having 3-4 Elder Dragons would be best because in some respects they are going to be more powerful than the ArchAngels. Dragons are intelligent creatures and furious engines of destruction. There will of course be other dragons but I want the Elder Dragons to portray something super powerful. Like they have been around longer than any remember.

Alduruun, Bahamut and Tiamat. That's 3 elder dragons (I think I spelt the first one wrong).

Here is an idea, although he is more of a giant serpent than a dragon.

The Leviathan. A creature that use to exist, which after death lead him to turning into a Demon of Envy (cause of the lost of his equivilant mate by God himself... ya).

Might be an idea for ya. Although it is now Demon more than serpent...

7 angels vs 7 deadly sins dragons(each dragon is a sin)
Or with 4 dragons, each dragon could be based off the 4 horsemen.

Not sure if it will fit with what you are looking at doing but hey just a idea that i had.

Quetzalcoatl and Jormungandr would be good additions for elder creatures. Neither is strictly a dragon in the usual sense but they could easily fit into lore. Such as, they are dragons but the only depictions of them are inaccurate as a result of few survivors from encounters

people sure like angels and christian religious iconography aroun here. Could you PM me a small blurb or something. I'm very interested to see how other people write/ develop thier ideas, being an aspiring career writer myself.

Ever heard of the Dragons in the Iron Kingdoms? It's Privateer Press lore setting for their wargames, Warmachine and Hordes.

Basically: There was a dragon once, named Toruk, who was basically a god in physical form. He grew tired of being so powerful but alone, so he splitted his athanc (the souls of dragons are like big, big crystals) into many shards, keeping just a portion for himself. The shards became minor dragons, who were as proud and arrogant as he was. So they declared war on him. And the history goes on.

But! The important thing is: Dragons in the Iron Kingdoms are abominations. Unnatural aberrations. Pisacas ain't got crap on the Iron Kingdoms' Dragons. Their very presence corrupts the fabric of reality and all living things, and from their blood spawn monsters full of cruelty but without eyes.

Shiva, Ifrit, Ramuh and Fenris. Ice, fire, lightning and earth.

I love the way you're all giving him non-original ideas for the dragons, when those are the ones he gets to make up and be creative with (considering the arch angels all have predetermined names)

He didnt neccesarily ask for new names. he asked for inspiration to get the "creative juices flowing".

I wasn't talking about names with the dragons.. It's just the dragons is where he can create new ideas as the arch angels as a concept already exist, but just feeding him already used concepts will detract from the result i think.

You could always make the dragon's *** nuts if you want to really say "Screw you" to the traditional view of them.

Six legs that each split at the elbow and form into twelve limbs. On is hooked while the other is a growth for helping position. Long whip like tails covered in barbs, a thick body but then a massive serpent like neck, and a long needle nose face with twenty eyes littered about. Ten massive wings starting from its neck all the way onto its tail, and sores on its belly that it uses to secrete excrement. A long tongue like a hummingbird that pierces soft tissue and drains it of bodily liquids. Two vestigial arms that hug close underneath its belly, that's only use is to help move eggs now.

That's about all I can come up with in ten seconds, I didn't want to drag on and on.

I dont like Dragons in my stories. Why not, insteada having a unified race of dragons, combne all existing serpentine creatures into a massive horde like grouping. I.e while you have Drakes, and Dragons, and Wyrms (who cant fly), and Leviathan, and etc they all constitute dragons for the purposes of this story.

Are the Angels the good guys or the bad guys? Or are both sides somewhere in the grey?
