New to the game, need some advice about this char I want to build

Greetings everyone, it is a pleasure to be here.

Im a newcomer to Dark Souls (although I played Demons Souls as a Royal), and Im kinda confused about the kind of character that I want to build and the stats required for him.

First of all, I wanted a character that could cast those new and awesome "Faith Nukes" like lightning spear. Also, I love using Katanas and am pretty fond of combat. Resuming the whole story: I wanted a solid character that could hold on both pvp and pve, use a good bow, a nice katana, some medium armor that allows me to dodge without being encumbered and spells to kill bosses and tough enemies.

Who's that character? Could you guys give me a little hand here?

I would guess it's a kind of Dex-Faith build?
I would probably say, start with the hunter character, level up faith to 30(?) and dex to 40(?)
Thats my opinions though, hope someone else better at builds can help,

Exactly! A faith/dex build sounds great. I like close combat, but only to give some powerful hits and back off. Hence, I don't need a great and heavy armor.

And the faith spells seem much more powerful now, specially with covenants and lightning spear. Also, it is always good to be able to heal yourself.

Yea, However if you want to deal POWERFULL blows, I would recomend Strength/Faith instead of the dex....since dexterity is more for the quicker weapons that dosen't deal as much damage as the strength ones in one blow,

And you can do a fair damage with the miracles as well, but ofcourse it depends on your stats.

there are two weapon buff moves for faith that are both very strong, id suggest using those with a dex/faith build because the higher attack speed means you get more out of the buff do to more hits. an Iaito katana with dark moon blade or sunlight blade can be devastating. also sunlight spear, great lightning spear and lightning spear are all very hard to use in pvp but will be easier with high dex as that reduces casting time... you might want to look into wrath of god as its activation time is a split second in dark souls vs demons souls where it took a full second or more to cast and it does lots of aoe damage.

I would suggest getting Sunlight Spear for fun, it's good against bosses, not so good at PvP but if you have high dex I think the casting speed increases. For that you'll need 50 faith and 2 att slots. Also Darkmoon Blade and Sunlight Blade are powerful buffs at 50 faith. F
or armors just use a medium light armor (36 poise), increase your endurance to minimum equipload to fast roll (<25%) which with a katana and Ring of Favor and Protection I think you'll going to achieve it. Use a spear as backup secondary (Dragonslayer Spear will work very well with minimum strength to wield it 2 handed, and it scales with faith, and it's an awesomrle spear for a dex/faith build).
